Lately I have been watching The Flash Tv series on youtube. This live-action TV series was made in 1990 and only lasted 22 episodes mostly because of the high production costs. I must say this has to be the best live action super hero show I ever saw. Sure it can be cheesy but it reminds me of that first Superman film; It takes it self seriously enough. The Flash came off the heels of Batman and Dick Tracy so it had a noticable look of art deco and the main theme composed by Danny Elfman. My favorite episode so far is with the Flash battling a homicidal maniac named The Trickster who was played by Mark Hammill.

I'm excited that HUMAN TARGET returns tonight on FOX! Even though the old Rick Springfield tv series was alot closer to the comic character, this Christopher Chance is much more exciting. Probably due to the bigger budget. :D

The trailer for the comic book film COWBOYS & ALIENS is now up. It stars Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford and is directed by Jon Favreau. Looks really cool.

    Here's the teaser poster:

For those who enjoy animation, DC's YOUNG JUSTICE premieres November 26th on Cartoon Network and it's produced by Greg Wiseman (Spectacular Spiderman). This, I believe, will be replacing BATMAN: The Brave & The Bold which I sorely loved for its nostalgic blend of camp and seriousness. WB refused to give James Tucker another season despite good viewing numbers. :#

I can see a slight Timm in-house influence despite him being nowhere on this project but Wiseman's style is still quite evident.

Yuck ! More ugly, modern day character designs.

In general, most of the DCAU has been garbage. One bad film or show after another sans a few projects by Bruce Timm.

While I agree and share your disgust with the lame direction 2-D, hand drawn animation is going, I'll take anything in the DCAU over this:

Even for child's fare this is just ugly and lazy. Unfortunately, with kids it's one of the hottest cartoons on air. It hurts my brain trying to figure out why. When I was a child, even the simplest of cartoons had a much more thought out design than this. Charlie Brown character designs look better than this.

All the really good stuff is not in the main stream these days but being played at film festivals or occasionally on the web.

Yeah pretty much why I save all of my memories on DVD or the few VHS tapes I have left. It's a lost direction on this new generation of cartoon fans.

Oh yeah. I think this is going to be one of those sleeper hits that just takes off. Not only are you bringing in the comic fan demographic but lovers of western and sci-fi as well.

Not to mention the star power behind it.

I dunno Rogue; everybody seemed stiff and wooden in that teaser and westerns typically don't do big box office. It remains to be seen if Craig can bring an audience into the movie theater outside of Bond and when you take Indiana Jones out of the equation Harrison Ford hasn't had a hit in a very long time (Morning Glory being his latest flop). This is going up against some big guns and some big stars; it's not a sure thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Here is a concept drawing of The Joker from Tim Burton.

    tim-burtons-joker.jpg?w=600&h=828

No way Burton would have envisioned Joker as clean cut as he ended up in the film.

When he was hired to direct Batman Tim Burton really wasn't established in Hollywood as his only other credit of note was Pee Wee's Big Adventure. As such, I think its safe to say that the studio scrutinized his work and creative decisions fairly closely and kept him on a relatively short leash. That's one of the reasons the film practically grinds to a halt at certain points to shoehorn Prince's songs into the proceedings. It's also a pretty safe bet that Jack Nicholson, who at the time was at the height of his popularity and Hollywood power, also had input into the role.

After the runaway success of the first movie, Burton was given far more creative freedom on Batman Returns and ended up really skewing the Batman mythos to his sensibilities, thus turning the Penguin into a deformed, homicidal freak and Catwoman into a socially repressed schizophrenic, and personally, I think the movie suffered for it.

Yeah that's what I meant by Burton not envisioning the clean cut Joker that ended up on film. He was largely being dictated what to do by the studio so like you said the Prince songs, no matter how enjoyable, featured brought the film down. Burton didn't like the way the film turned out overall and was very reluctant to do another film hence the studio gave him far more leeway for creative control.

I agree. Returns is a good curio but it just dosen't work and Batman himself suffers the most. The Penguin and Catwoman overwhelm this picture with their pitiful goals and angst despite how enjoyable they maybe and I did find them amusing most of the time. Batman simply becomes the other "freak" in this film and he dosen't seem like Gotham's protector who wants to lash out the evil that created him; Here he has no purpose of existence.

Then the other problem is the major non-entity that is Max Shreck. Max is suppose to be the tormenter and manipulater of the "freaks" and more of a antagonist then The Penguin or Catwoman. The huge drawback here is that you never really hate the guy. Shreck dosen't even seem to enjoy what he does or has any really malice towards anyone. His only passion seems to be driving a power plant which will hijack power from Gotham City. Max claims this power plant will be his "legacy" but how could something so devoid of any personal touch as a public utility be a tribute to himself ? What would have made sense is if he wanted a building with his name on it ala Donald Trump; A shameless and massive recognition of his own name. What they should have done is eliminate Shreck, put The Penguin in his place, and have him be the tormenter of Catwoman and Batman. Instead, we have a dead weight that was dragging the film down.

The test fottage from Tim Burton's take on superman has surfaced here:

    http://www.slashfilm.com/test-footage-tim-burtons-superman-lives/

I think it looks good as part of the Eradicator suit, a lot of people are thinking this is what the suit would look like all the time but if Burton was using the Kevin Smith script this would make sense and could have been interesting

Anyone besides me disapointed in the Green Hornet trailer/commercials. I was a fan of Green Hornet when I was kid, but I don't like what I see in the trailer. Looks like a lot of it will be played for laughs. Not sure I like the Seth Rogen casting and I also see Cameron Diaz is in it, not wild about her either. Since they are releasing it in January and not during the holidays, I think the studio may know they have a poor movie. Too bad if that is the case.

I know I said something about this earlier--and probably in this forum--but I'll say it again: Green Hornet looks terrible, with Seth Rogen playing his usual goofy bumbler and Kato now the guy with all the brains and skills who doesn't even like GH. This dog's got fleas!

I know I weighed in on this one earlier as well...really depressed/aggravated that they've deliberately gone the comedic route with this great property X-( So much potential if done right...

Still, they've sold me a ticket because of the character...and the Loeffelholz boys---now 15 and (nearly) 13---can't wait to see it. But they don't know the Hornet like I do (did) :# I just hope there's something to like...Black Beauty looks cool---in the Burger King drive-thru :# :# :#

A couple of new pics from upcoming movies have popped up on the net:

First up is our first look at Andrew Garfield in the new Spiderman costume. I don't care much for the stylized spider symbol or the general "shinyness" of the suit as its supposed to be something handmade, but that's just me.

    SpideyGarfieldsm.jpg?1294949527

Next up is a pic of Chris Evans as Captain America in full costume. Liking this look more and more as its identifiable while still feeling true to the period the film is set in. Also like the Hydra soldiers in the background.

I'm the opposite, Tony. Think Spiderman looks awesome, very "Ultimate" to me, which I love and is why I'm looking forward to the reboot.

Cap looks kind of lame. His costume looks a bit cheap. Not sure why, it is ok, but something seems off. Maybe the weird ab cutouts, maybe the helmet, I'm not sure.

I'm with you, Nightshooter...am just a tad disappointed with Cap's costume. I've always enjoyed the WWII garb from the comics. I miss the helmet/goggles combo. And something about the gray harnes doesn't seem right. As for Spidey, it looks okay to me...the gloves aren't right, but I can live with the rest.

I've discovered a great section on the LA times website dedicated to Superhero-genre movies called Hero Complex. It has a great selection of articles on virtually every upcoming superhero. And has lots of photos which I haven't seen before - including some on the (seldom heard about) "X-men: First Class" movie.

Might take him out future possible Bond scenarios. I wonder if Alessandra's heard about this...

I'm a little gutted by this. I thought Brandon Routh made an excellent Superman but perhaps wasn't best served by the film he was in, althought I did enjoy it. That said, I think that Henry Cavill will make a good Superman, not sure about Clark Kent though.

I was just coming round to the idea as Cavill as Bond, too. I hope this doesn't take him out of the running.

The official trailer to X-Men First Class is up. Director Matthew Vaughan has described it as James Bond with mutants and there are definitely some 60s era cold war vibes in this trailer.
