The State Within - CR-style?

Caught this trailor on BBC TV for a thriller that looks very Bondian - Casino Royale action in particular. Isaacs looks like he could have been Bond, actually.

It's on Thursday, for those who can see it in the UK.

I think it's more 'West Wing' meets 'State of Play' than Bond. I shall be watching!

I'm looking forward to this. I'm a big fan of Isaacs and think he would have made a great Bond. The trailers look good, though one review said the first episode is confusing but to stick with it because it all comes together.

I've been looking forward to this since the trailers began the other week. Looks good, though will no doubt of course have a political message, even if it's a subliminal one, from reading the dossiers on the American characters at the main site.

I do like Jason Isaacs, though I don't think he's got the right "air" for Bond (but then I didn't think Daniel Craig had either, so what do I know?).

Though for those saddled with BBC1 Scotland and its weird ways, before you settle down to watch it on Thursday night you should be aware it's actually shown on Friday night up here at 9pm.

Did anyone bother watching this? I started to last night then gave up. I couldn't bear the camera angles for starters.I hate that handheld style and showing every scene from 20 different angles. Its just too frantic for me. Sharon Gless was annoying and what had they done to Jason Isaacs hair!! And was it just me or did Ben Daniels look like Daniel Craig in certain shots?

Yep, and I was just as disappointed as you were. The characters were way too stereotypical for my liking - Isaac's British Ambassador was pompous and sticato, as in "stiff upper lip old boy", and Gless's Defence Secretary was all gung-ho with no diplomacy, as in "trigger happy yank". The overly ambitious subordinate (the Under secretery of Defence) was in place - check - the 'not all he seems' MI6 agent was in place - check - and the vulnerable girl who's hurting with loss was in place - check.

Nah, was just canned formula and not brilliantly directed at all, I'm afraid.

(You're right about Ben Daniels too, Rose, I also thought he bore more than a passing resemblance of Craig on occassion)

Yeah, but then he's the one who winds up snogging that fella, hmm....

I quite liked it, but I suppose the Isaacs fellow is a bit of a stereotype. What was the matter with his hair? ?:) I did think he was a bit like Dalton...

I noticed that as well. That matt black look never works, which is why I was delighted they didn't change Craigs colouring too much.

Its shame really because this showed promise and I like many of the actors involved.

And yes, Isaacs is like Dalton which is probably the main reason why I like him :D

:)) Sorry ... as you may have gathered, I didn't think it looked very, er, natural.
