I agree too. Now Q & Moneypenny seem like a bit of a quaint relic of the Bondian past. What's the point of bringing them back?
I don't think they are a quant relic. I think they could still be great, providing of course that their scenes are well-written.
As a matter of fact, I missed seeing them in CR (the defilibrator scene could surely have been filmed with Q) and I hope that they appear in Bond 22. I know that some people will object to this as they feel that Q and Moneypenny have become stale. I disagree with this as I thought that Cleese, for example, made a fine Q. There is however no reason why, considering that CR is a reboot, Q and Moneypenny can't be shaken up a bit. Personally, however, I like them the way they are and I think that a new female secretary by the name of Moneypenny who flirts with the heartbroken Bond could be terrific. As for Q; well, I would like for there to be gadgets in Bond 22 so I'm hoping that he returns. Feel free to throw tomatoes my way. {:)

I agree, CR did not suffer without Q and moneypenny and wouldnt mind them NOT returning
Judy Dench's M in CR had the best performance i've ever seen !!!! Hats off to dame judy
Yeah -- Let's hear it for Judy. Her M doesn't get a lot of hugs around here. I hear she and Cate Blanchett are terrific in Notes On A Scandal. I have no idea what it's about, but the previews are intriguing.
It's about a dowdy, friendless middle-aged teacher who hangs out with a younger glamorous teacher and inviegles her way into her life in slightly odd sinister fashion, with lesbian undertones arguably. The novel is highly readable if quite depressing.
And back on topic. . .on Thursday, CR made $236,117 in America, bringing its U.S. take to $160,750,267--less than $200,000 from matching DAD's totals. Look for CR to be the #1 Bond film in America this weekend! -{
If only Casino Royale had been released on the 9th November instead of the 16th.
Alas, Casino Royale did not become the highest grossing film of 2006 in the UK, but it has now become the highest grossing film released in the UK in 2006. According to BOM, CR has now grossed $98,864,911 US (Approx 51 million) which puts it almost $200,000 ahead of POTC: Dead Man's Chest. CR is now set to pass the magic $100 million mark some time this week.
The UK & US take combined now accounts for approx half of CR's worldwide gross of $531 million. Having said that, it should be noted that CR has been doing very good business elsewhere. It looks set to pass the $50 million mark in Germany, currently standing at $46,554,465. The $20 million mark ($20,262,971) has been passed in Australia, and let's remember that CR was released down under three weeks after the UK & US. And in Italy $4,346,846 on opening weekend.
This is exactly what I meant in my earlier post The real contest should be what was the highest-grossing films released in a particular year, not for the year itself. How could anyone say POTC did better than CR at the U.K. box office?

Granted, it probably won't happen... but but how much would it have to earn to beat DAD original release numbers, when adjusted for inflation?

BoxOfficeMojo's US box office weekend estimates place Stomp the Yard as the highest grossing film totalling $22 million.
Casino Royale is placed 19th with an estimate of $1,775,000, bringing the overall US total to approx $162,525,000. Which means CR has now overtaken DAD and become the highest grossing Bond film of all at the US box office, not accounting for "inflation adjusted".
A footnote. CR's theatre count has now been reduced from 1266 to 819.

If you are referring to the US.
And if you use the average ticket price as a measure. According to BOM, the average ticket price was $5.81 in 2002. The current average is approx $6.58, a rise of approx 13%. DAD totalled $160.9 million in 2002, which means CR needs to earn approx $181 million to beat DAD.

I think it'll run out of steam before it gets there...oh, well. One can't have everything. I guess we shouldn't be too greedy :v

And you can guess which web site has been trumpeting the inflated box office to "prove" CR isn't as big of a hit as we all think. Guess those glowing reviews, BAFTA nominations, and "Golden Tomato" awards for Best Reviewed Wide-Release film and Best Action Film are like ashes in the collective mouths of EON. . .

However for Sony and Eon worldwide box office, with USA, is a lot better than DAD, inflation adjusted too, so there is no reason for this argument.
We've known for some time that Casino Royale has been a smash hit in the UK. Now the icing has been put on the cake. CR has become only the third film to gross more than $100 million at the UK box office. According to Screen International, $102,335,465 (approx £53 million).
The other two films to pass the magic $100 million mark are Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Well, it looks like CR's days of making a million dollars a day in America are over and done with. BOM has posted the real numbers, and they break down like this:

But weep not for CR. Its official U.S. take is as of now $162,760,504; and around the world it's made $552,371,013. Well done!
Casino Royale's days of making a million dollars in America are over and done with, but those are still impressive figures considering it has been on release for two months and is now playing in 819 theatres compared to the original 3300+.
I will weep not for CR, but I wonder what overall gross (in the US) it would have achieved by now if it had been playing in the same number of theatres as Happy Feet from day one. HF (currently 1451) has been playing in considerably more theatres than CR (819). CR's average per theatre is currently $2,120, while HF's is $1,394.
Interesting how much more eclectic---and skewed toward the classics---the list becomes when inflation adjusted...but it sure is nice to see CR in such lofty company on the non-adjusted list :007)

Both films also won 11 Oscars. Does that mean CR's future is golden?

According to BOM, Casino Royale grossed $130,650 at the US box office on Wednesday. CR's overall US gross now stands at $163,019,028.
Another box office landmark is now within CR's sight. It's overall international/overseas gross is expected to surpass $400 million by the weekend. Only three films achieved this in 2006.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
The Da Vinci Code
Ice Age: The Meltdown
I signed up for BOM's "Premiere Pass" on a trial basis just so I could see the "actuals." Going by the figures that have been adjusted for inflation, CR is currently #10 on the list, but it's only about $520,000 away from passing TWINE as #9. Here's the list in millions (and, again, these are U.S. figures, folks):

Not too shabby, but I sort of like the "official" numbers a little better! :007)
The biggest surprise to me is seeing TSWLM as low as 13th. In terms of worldwide box office it would surely be well inside the top ten, adjusted for inflation. Obviously, not as popular in the US as elsewhere.
