BOM finally posted its numbers, and they show the non-American grosses being a bit less than Variety's--$415.7 million--but the worldwide tally is nearly the same: $581,572,375.
After 80 days in the U.S., CR has earned $165,875,807, and it had a pretty good weekend. Even though it's now playing in only 248 theaters (that's less than five theaters per state!), it made $110,423 on Friday, $193,840 on Saturday. I think it's a safe bet CR will make $166 million before it exits the theaters for good.
Yes, it's interesting to note the different numbers between BOM and Variety. BOM has the Chinese gross at $5,525,839 while Variety has $6.9 million.
The UK gross (according to BOM) currently stands at $105,176,320. There's a possibility of one final box office boost for Casino Royale as it has nine BAFTA nomination's. The awards ceremony will be held this coming Sunday.
Get a load of this: CR was down to a single room here at a multiplex in the Sacramento area showing CR three times a day. It just added a fourth showing this week. It must still have an audience.

Looking forward to seeing how CR fares there...and I hope it does add to the till, however modestly...
There are still a couple of longstanding AJB members who've not commented on CR's success---or even posted on the site, that I know of, since the film was released---and one of them was an absolute Master of Numbers.

Quite right I didn't want to put too fine a point on it, as we never particularly got along...but I'm surprised she hasn't chimed in---even if only to say how overrated Craig and CR have been, how misguided the movie-going public is, etc...

I hope Mistress returns soon. If she does, something tells me she won't be impressed with our number crunching during her absence. {:)
The UK cinema attendance figures in 2006 were the lowest for five years, which makes Casino Royale's success all the more praiseworthy.
Just under 157 milion people wen't to the cinema in the UK last year, down from 165 million the year before and the lowest since 2001 when 156 million wen't to the movies.
BOM has stopped tracking Casino Royale's daily box office in the US, for whatever reason. There has been no update since the weekend, so it looks like there will be a weekly update instead from now until CR exits all the theatre's.
According to BoxOfficeMojo, Casino Royale grossed $298,639 at the US box office over the weekend. This brings the overall US total to $166,275,268. CR's theatre count has been reduced from 248 to 187.
BOM has also updated CR's international gross to $420,578,860. Combined with the US, it adds up to $586,854,128 worldwide.
Here is an update relating to some of the countries outside the US. All the numbers are according to BOM.
UK $105,539,794
Germany $50,168,927
France $26,906,589
Australia $24,901,102
Japan $18,937,732
Italy $10,679,457
China $8,591,704
At first glance, the French numbers seem respectable, but I don't know how they compare to previous Bond films. And although CR is doing well in China, it looks like it will not be enough in terms of a final worldwide gross in excess of $600 million.
Amazing -- I just checked my local theaters listings. CR has finally ended its run at the one our multiplexes here, where it's been hanging on for weeks. I was going to write that CR was finally gone, but I see that it has reappeared at a smaller theater. Not a dollar theater, either. It may still be in a theater here when the DVD comes out.
In my paper this morning it said that today CR is beginning its run at the "dollar" theaters (though the last time I paid a dollar at one was, I think, in the 1980s). It now joins a few films--such as Apocalypto--that were released well after it, so a three-month run in the regular theaters is pretty impressive nowadays.
Not really--they tend to be called dollar theaters because when they first opened up (most were originally first-run theaters that hit hard times) they charged only $1.00 or $1.50 for a showing. Now they're more like $3.00 or $4.00. Inflation strikes everywhere.

I'm awaiting its arrival at the 'second run' theatre where I live---where I'll likely attend for a record-breaking (for me!) fifth time overall...
Our second-run theatre is at our local mall...and I think admission is a very reasonable $2.50...
EDIT: Just checked my IP homepage...and CR is now showing! B-)

Here's the first BOM update in over a week: CR is now playing in 318 U.S. theaters, and it's a sure bet that most of them are the discount theaters. The movie's American take as of February 19 is $166,720,794; worldwide it's made $589,639,581.
Before Casino Royale's release I don't think many would have been bold enough to predict a worldwide box office of around $600 million. I was thinking CR would be doing well if it grossed more than half that figure.
It's so close to $600 million indeed. So close but no cigar. It looks like the final worldwide gross will fall short by a couple of million.

Come on, Mr Branson! You can afford to chuck a couple of million at this extended plug for Virgin Airways to take it over the line!

BOM reports that, as of February 25, CR's take in America is $167,007,184. Is it just me, or is there something poetic about those middle three digits? Worldwide, CR has made $589,925,971. Now the question is, how much will it make in DVD sales?
Casino Royale grossed $138,853 at the US box office over the weekend, according to BOM. This brings the overall US gross to $167,220,102. CR's theatre count has been reduced from 267 to 226.
Combining the US with the overseas gross of $425,924,910 it all adds up to the grand worldwide total of $593,145,012.
Amazing that this movie is still making money. Just recently, my buddies and I drove 120 miles just to watch Casino Royale in theaters (We Are Marshall is still flooding this city's cinemas).
There were about 10 people attending (excluding my group) that night. Hopefully, it'll break the $600 mil mark.
Casino Royale grossed $85,000 at the US box office over the weekend, according to BOM. This brings the overall US gross to $167,365,000. CR's theatre count has been reduced from 226 to 132. The DVD is now on general release so it will be interesting to see how long CR remains in the theatre's.

Indeed, Hardy. Casino Royale was playing in 187 theatres last week, so the increase of 131 is surely due to discount theatres.
