Casino Royale certainly is a smash at the UK box office. It grossed £8.5 million over the weekend for a grand total of £27.9 million ($53.3million). BoxOfficeMojo predicts that it will likely surpass Die Another Day's total by this coming weekend.
Well, CR is #1 in the U.S.--for Monday at least! According to BoxOfficeMojo, CR made $1,733,036, beating out HF's $1,354,303. Suck on that, penguins!!
All kidding aside, I decided to have a look at BOM's list of all-time box office profits over the Thanksgiving holiday. CR is currently placed at #11, just one notch below DAD. The whole list is here:
Interesting that, with the exception of DAD and possibly National Treasure (which I understand is pretty family friendly), ALL the movies in the top ten are family films or cater exclusively to children. Small wonder CR has placed second in America!
Now let's just hope Bond isn't shown up by that Baby Jesus kid next weekend!
Casino Royale comfortably topped the US box office for the third day running and is now just shy of $100 million overall. For the second day running CR grossed over half a million dollars more than those pesky penguins.
Wednesday's box office according to BoxOfficeMojo.
Casino Royale grossed $1,654,438 for a grand US total of $99,211,624. Happy Feet grossed $1,077,997 for a grand US total of $102,872,472.
I would imagine that, as of today (Thursday), CR will pass that magical $100 million mark, meaning it's done so in just two weeks--no small feat!
I'm willing to bet, though, that CR will drop from its #2 spot this weekend. I have a strong suspicion that #1 will be claimed by The Nativity Story, which will lead a certain anti-Craig website to create such headlines as,
"Virgin and Baby Whip Bond's A$$!"
and
"Thanks To Our Boycott, Audiences Prefer Christ to Craig!"

I'm not so sure about the Nativity film. This film is aimed at the Passion of The Christ-type Christians, but is already suffering negative publicity due to its lead actress becoming an unwed teenage mother. It has already been subject to protests from some quarters.

True dat, Jetset, but never underestimate the power of the American Bible Belt. The movie is being heavily promoted to church groups and the TV ads announce that it's bringing "Christ" back into "Christmas." Frankly, I think the movie looks dreadful, with everyone putting on phony Ali Baba accents and with such biblically accurate scenes as Joseph and Mary battling a flood; but the churchgoers and people desperate for a movie that's safe for the kids are likely to show up in droves.

Wait a minute -- So the Nativity Story is a reboot of Passion of the Christ? Does anyone know if Mary is played by the same woman as in Passion? That will really screw up the continuity. Although I do understand that Nativity won't be as "gritty" as Passion.
Do I know my stuff, or what? According to BoxOfficeMojo, as of yesterday CR has earned $100,763,154 in the U.S., and $229,523,709 worldwide. Happy Feet is still the more financially successful film in the U.S., having earned $103,955,680, but internationally it's earned less than half of CR's take. Now let's see how Bond fares against Baby Jesus. . .

Happy Feet had it's premiere in the UK this week. It will be interesting to see if the penguins have anything like the same impact over this side of the pond as they have had in the US.
You don't suppose there's a website called KeishaCastleHughesNotMary, do you?
Let's start one. And insist that they hire Pierce Brosnan instead.
Will there be an invisible donkey for Mary to ride on, an Ice Barn and a souped up manger with satellite navigation, an ejector seat and various other bits of kit

Well, Hardy. The Virgin and Baby have not whipped Bond's A$$, at least not yet. The audiences preferred Craig to Christ on Friday, according to BoxOfficeMojo's estimates. The Nativity Story barely grossed over half Casino Royale's take and was also well behind Happy Feet and Deja Vu.
Friday's US box office estimates.
Casino Royale $4,625,000 - Overall US Total $105,388,000
Happy Feet $4,350,000 - Overall US Total $108,306,000
Deja Vu $3,500,000 - Overall US Total $36,560,000
The Nativity Story $2,400,000 - Overall US Total $2,400,000

Well, in this case I'd be very happy to be proved wrong. I'd also enjoy seeing CR finally hit #1 in the U.S., both because it would show that good word-of-mouth and happy fans are at work, and especially because a certain website would be shown up once and for all. Good gosh, what would happen? Is it possible for an entire website to commit suicide?

Well well...that's the benchmark at which numerous naysayers had CR 'topping out' I'd be curious to hear new estimates...

Apparently Variety have announced that CR has now made $300,000,000.00 worldwide.
Apparently, Variety also announced that Casino Royale has now grossed over $60 million in UK. That figure exceeds Die Another Day's total UK gross of approx $58 million. Allowing for inflation, I would estimate that CR needs $65 million plus to exceed DAD. It looks like it will surpass that figure comfortably.
Those penguins! Those blasted penguins! BoxOfficeMojo's estimates for the weekend are out, and they project Happy Feet will again be #1 in the U.S., with a take of just over $17 million, while CR's take is just over $15. Really--I actually have nothing against HF, and I may want to see it myself--I just want that group at you-know-where to shut the &@*# up!
Anyway, something I found interesting are CR's daily earnings in the U.S., which you can find here. With the exception of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Casino Royale has been #1 at the American box office on weekdays; but on the weekends, here come the penguins! (Or, more likely, here come the moms with their legions of squalling fry crying, "I wanna see Happy Feet again!")
Oh, as for CR's total U.S. take: it's estimated to be $115,863,000 (which is still less than Borat's); worldwide it's at $244,623,555.

I can deal with Happy Feet beating CR, I suppose---so long as CR can hang in there against new arrivals and post an all-time high ( ;% ) box office number for the Bond franchise...then the Ultra-Maroons over on The Site Which Must Not Be Named might as well have claim to have boycotted ALL 20 PREVIOUS BOND FILMS, for all the good it did them B-)

I was hoping it might be third time lucky for Casino Royale after outgrossing Happy Feet on Friday. Never mind, $15 million is a very respectable take for the third weekend of it's release. And it's still not that far behind overall, so there is still a chance that Bond will have the last laugh over the penguins in the US.

But CR is still doing great business. I saw it for the fourth time yesterday and the theater didn't seem any less crowded than the other times I've seen it. And this was a Saturday morning matinee in an area where it's playing on a half-dozen screens. A lot of young women oooh and aaah-ing over Craig this time, too.

@merseytart
That is pretty impressive. Looks like U.K. audiences are supporting the home team, which is as it should be.
As for the "Nativity Story," it might do well among parents with small children, like "Happy Feet." I think adults will continue to see CR.
