I agree for the most part. Personally I think there are some obvious Bond girls (Monica Bellucci, Jennifer Connelly, Cathrine Zeta-Jones) who should have been cast in the Brosnan films but now probably are too famous.

Excuse me if this has already been reported but here's some news that might shed a little light...
Is Abbie Cornish the New Bond Girl?
Source: MTV August 1, 2007
MTV spoke to actress Rose Byrne, who says Australian actress and friend Abbie Cornish has landed the female lead in Bond 22.
Cornish previously starred in features A Good Year, Candy and Somersault, and TV series "Life Support." Her upcoming features include Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Stop Loss and Bright Star.
Directed by Marc Forster, the 22nd installment in the James Bond franchise starts filming in December for a November 7, 2008 release. Daniel Craig returns as 007.

Seems I've heard Ms Cornish's name bandied about before...
This seems a bit early, yet, though. Who knows? MI6 will break it, if it's at least a more serious rumour...

As “Bond 22” gears up under new helmer Marc Forster, one of the biggest unanswered questions is which lucky lady will be taking up the mantle as the next famed “Bond Girl.” Well, thanks to a fellow countrywoman, we may now have an answer.
MTV News caught up with Aussie actress Rose Byrne (”Sunshine,” FX’s “Damages”), and asked if she had been contacted about the role (Byrne’s name was previously batted around for “Casino Royale”). While declaring she wasn’t involved with “22,” Byrne exclaimed, “I think Abbie Cornish’s got it.”
While Cornish — a fellow Australian — has been rumored for the part since earlier this year, Byrne’s utterance may lend extra credence to the story given the pair’s friendship. If true, Cornish’s appearance in “Bond” would mark the star’s first major break outside her home country, where she has made numerous acclaimed appearances in Australian television and film.

truth be told, Im not suprised. After all, Eva Green wasnt annouced till after production started - whilst they may cast this girl sooner, five months before production seems a little premature.
I read somewhere that Abbie Cornish has officially denied it. Should I believe her denial or is it more likely that she will be the Bond girl?
Personally I'm in a wait and see mode. I disliked Eva Green, and while I'm not over the moon about Cornish. I think she could be very good but I will have to wait and see; assuming she is the Bond girl of course.

And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
Its always hard to tell with rumours - on one hand, any actress suggested as being the next girl gets her name out there. It gives a small amount of publicity for a short while. Therefore alot of pretty, young actresses wouldnt mind a rumour running around about them. After all, the only thing worse than people talking badly about you is people not talking at all.
what the james bond series needs is a really famous girl and i say forget some french or russian girl. we need an american. and i think angelina jolie or rachel Mcadams would be the best choice
I would love Monica Belucci to play a Bond girl. There was talk of her being in CR and I still think she would make a superb Bond girl. :x

I think she's in her 40s now, Dan--too old, unfortunately. (IMHO.)
You're probably right.

I'm not so sure about that. Halle Berry was famous enough to get equal billing with Brosnan, but her character left me cold. I don't think the series needs to cast a big name actress again any time soon - the rebooted format has gotten plenty of casual moviegoers interested in the series already. No need to overshadow that with stunt casting.
Good suggestion!
Marion Cotillard is the type of actress who the producers should cast. A respected, but not yet internationally famous actress. Eva Green was in the same category.
I second Hoshi's opinion. I much prefer Bond's leading ladies to be somewhat unknown.
Denise Richards and Halle Berry are both beautiful women but during both their Bond films I saw them as Denise Richards and Halle Berry, not as the characters they were supposed to be playing. With a more unknown actress I think it's easier for the audience to get past her and focus on her character.
Plus I think with Halle and Denise we need to consider the fact that neither one of them...well let's just say that they don't excel at their craft and leave it at that.

I agree with you that Halle and Denise were disappointing Bond girls, however I think that Halle can act brilliantly. Just not in DAD.

Given that the only movie I've seen Halle in was her Bond film, I will take your word for it.
Daniel Craig's next on screen love conquest could be non-other than Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty.
Shetty, 32, has been described as the 'perfect leading lady' to square up against 007 and it has been reported the Celebrity Big Brother star is about to 'seal the deal'.
Producers of the next flick, Bond 23, are desperately trying to sign her up because she sells out cinemas across Asia.
A source said: 'Shilpa is having secret talks with the top brass who are working on the next movie.'
As far as they are concerned she has it all – she is beautiful, feisty and a great actress. But they also want someone who is a big star prior to the film, which Shilpa is.'
'She has a huge following in Bollywood, as well as a number of fans in the Western world – especially in Britain – so she will be great for box office sales,' the source added.
A spokesman for Shetty said she could not comment on the story today.

Whoever the producers pick is going to have some competition in Eva (at least for me)!
I would like to see DC get his way and have Sienna Miller get a shot - definately not a Green knock off!
