CR beats DAD lands down imo.

Wouldn't it be great if connery could have never aged. I never really liked brosnan that much, and I can't think of a beter replacement than DC. Although I would have liked to see Sean Bean in the role, but i guess that will never happen.

I'll stick to my opinion and rewatch DAD for the 38th time.

It's surely not that bad ... we don't want any AJB members to come to any harm!

    ;)

LOL! She isn't trying to commit suicide is she? I know I was after watching DAD the very first time. I cannot imagine the effect it has after 38 viewings.....:o

I am actually a big fan of the books and I find it in good comparision with the novel. I personally loved the action, but I just despise the actor. There is just something about him that is not making me see him as "Bond". To me he looked awkard in the Omega ads compared to Brosnan. I really am not much of a CnB supporter but that was the only site I can agree on with my current thoughts. Who Knows? maybe Craig could prove me wrong, but for now I'll stick to my opinion and rewatch DAD for the 38th time. What I'm trying to point out here is that I really loved the film and thought it was excellent, I jsut didn't like the actor.

Bizarrely, this opinion seems to be even more in the minority. It seems that generally, people that didn't particularly like the film, still managed to hail Craig as a great Bond. But with you, its the other way round. I guess the world would be a boring place if we all thought the same......;)

It's as simple as this. Casino Royale is a 5 star movie and Daniel Criag puts in a 5 star performance. He's not the suave 007 agent yet, but thats the point of film.

I thought he was pretty suave, just not smarmy. He did a nice job on the Bollinger order and his first martini order.

Agreed. but i just mean't that DC still wasn't the finished article, which i'm sure will come in future films. lets just hope thathat the producers don't screw this up now by bringing in some nonsense director.

I couldn't resist--after posting that CR is now the Number One film in America, having pulled in over $49 million in just five days, I had to go over to the "Boycott CR" site. I wondered how they could possibly spin such a box office success. Well, this is how. Behold their latest headline (and please ignore the misused comma--it's hard for little fingers to type correctly):

The Boycott triumphantly goes into its second weekend, how poorly will Casino Royale place this week?

I understand now--the more a film diminishes at the box office as time goes by, the more successful is the boycott! That means that at this point in time, a proposed movement to boycott Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest would finally be panning out!

But seriously. . .after visiting that site, I couldn't help but think of certain strong parallels. Consider: It's run by someone who deeply loves movies but despises the creators of those movies. It's a place where dissent is not allowed, and where only the leader's view of news and reality is shown. It's a tiny, inconsequential site that has gotten world-wide attention for its threats to cause havoc and destruction. Ladies and gentlemen, I am now convinced that I know who is behind the "Boycott CR" website:

Gah! 38 times? That's worse than the torture scene in CR.

I just watched parts of DAD again on Spike TV here in the States. Invisible car, Windsurfing escapes, Madonna, surfing to sneak into North Korea... oh, did I mention invisible car? :s

    DAD makes Baby Jesus cry.

I have to agree. I like Brosnan, and I thought DAD started off OK, but toward the 2nd half I began to feel like I was watching Star Trek. Zao looked like a Star Trek character and many of the interior settings looked like they could have been filmed inside of the Starship Enterprise. I watched it last week for the second time, and still can't remember exactly how it ended. It was a forgettable blur of unrealistic action, swirling laser beams, invisible cars, and that godawful wind-surfing scene.

Of course, if that's the sort of stuff you want from a Bond movie, then enjoy yourself. We all obviously have differing tastes in what we expect from a Bond flik.

Halle Berry was the best part of the film, IMHO. Yum!!

Well, I guess we shouldn't turn this into a DAD review thread...

This is an interesting thread. I love CR. Certainly the best Bond film since... well ever. Now, I suppose it helps that I am a fan of the hard-edged films (OHMSS, TLD). But, I confess I love Moonraker and AVTAK. Even DAD has grown on me. I was a kid when I watched Moonraker on LWT and absolutely loved it. Which is why I shall never understand how loathed this film is in general. But, I digress....
My point being that there will always be disagreements about the best Bond film. This actor was better than that actor... this story was not so good... etc. I think those sorts of criticisms are wonderful. They engender great conversation if anything.
What I always was perplexed by were those who criticized a movie by saying "Well, I don't like it because it's not like the last movie." Each movie is different. If I wanted to watch a movie that was like the last one, I would just stay home and rewatch the last one instead of spending 11 dollars to watch the new one.
Brosnan is a great Bond, and he will always be regarded as such. Liking Craig does not mean that I dislike Brosnan. Liking Craig does not mean I dislike Moore or Connery or Dalton or even Lazenby.
CR is not a perfect film by any means. But, I can't think of any film that is perfect to me. CR is great, however, and it deserves as big an audience as possible. Craig and Eva Green are brilliant.

don't like Craig? Okay thats fine its an opinion.

But because you didn't like how this film turned out, you're going to support a website that claims to have omniscient power and say "Daniel Craig is not Bond"
    that is ridiculous.

I thought the first half had promise--the torture sequences, the spy exchange, the Cuba interlude. Once they introduced the invisible car, it pretty much went downhill fast.

The invisible car is infact feasible in the future. They have already developed a invisible coat!

Ms.Graves, may I suggest you are not a Bond fan but a Brosnan fan?
  • roclithroclith Posts: 1MI6 Agent
A Bond fan, but not fanatic, so I don't know the details of all the films. My understanding is that Casino Royale (the latest version) is a prequel to all Bond films. Is that right? When Bond is asked by the bartender, "Shaken or stirred", and Bond replies with "Do I look like I give a damn", it is totally plausible. Bond hasn't yet chosen his famous "Shaken" choice. Help me out here with the prequel question. Thanks!

Harrow Hans Brix!!!!!! It makes me chuckle, CR is an out and out success, yet they say the boycotting is a success. Reminds me of Chemical Ali as the US troops went by and he still insisted there were no forgien troops :))

in fact, all these stupid people at CNB site and their supporters helped to advertise new Bond movie and I bet all of them attended premiere screening hahaha :D.

    Thank you {[]:D

I'll be the first one to admit that I was among the haters about Craig. Now that I've seen the film three times, he just needs some tweeking in his acting skills. He needs to stop with the Terminator-style running and make it look more natural. Like I said in another thread the other day, he doesn't need to run like Reggie Bush but at least make it look natural. He's suppose to be a "raw" Bond, right? I didn't boycott the film. I didn't listen to the guys over at CnB; however, they do make some good points. I'm skimming over the novel right now and I had to make sure that I was right on something. Maybe we'll see a little more of a polished Bond in the next two films. Here's a link to you guy's favorite website. They do make some good points.

The thing that bothers me most about CNB is that its turned into some sort of fanatical obsession with some people. I loved DC but respect other people's opinions, we are all adults (or meant to be at least and entitled to like different things)

I would rather watch any of the less sparkling Bond films a thousand times on loop than watch any of the LOTR films. I know this puts me in a minority really but I accept that. I don't go on some witchhunt about it all.

The biggest laugh of all is that Craig has already been cast filmed and is grossing millions as Bond and therefore for all intents and purposes IS Bond and will be into the next 2-3 films at least and if the majority of the cinema going public like the next film he could be doing more than that - if he did 5, i.e. one every two years he would only be 48 and at the end of his realistic run in the role anyway.

The point to me is, if you (i.e. the generic 'you') don't like it don't watch it - simple enough. If you love the books read the books, if you only like one Bond, watch their film/s but allow others the freedom to like what they like whether you find it good, bad or indifferent!

Well, Craig's on the record saying he read the criticism and thought "You know, this was always going to be a good movie, but now it's going to be a really, really good movie." And, for me anyway, it really, really was. Maybe their tragic boycott efforts brought some good after all ;)
