Kudos to Babs!

Been reading some of the interviews with Barbara Broccoli (Google her name, there's been quite a few recently). The most striking thing is how sure-minded her vision of Bond is: Craig, Eva, the reboot, et al. I know she's taken a lot of heat this past year, but IMHO she's bringing to the series exactly what's been missing since the 60s--a stong vision of what Bond should be. And it's also great to hear they'll be continuing on with Bond 22 how they've started (re-started?) things in CR. It's kinda like a Bond Renaissance...the series hasn't felt this strong and dynamic in quite a while (IMO).

As others have pointed out, it's just a great time to be a Bond fan.

I agree. If the rumours were true, she was the one who insisted on Craig and made sure he got the part. Campbell wanted the croatioan, Sony and Wilson wanted somebody else.

Kudos to Babs indeed. I was strongly of the opinion that the re-boot starring Daniel Craig as Bond was not necessary. For sure, changes were required after DAD. The problem for me wasn't so much the old formula but the way it was being presented. A few changes here and there (mainly in the script dept) and a Pierce Brosnan Bond film along the lines of FYEO after MR and I would have been happy.

And that would have been the easiest thing for Babs to do. Except she stayed firm to her belief that a major shake up was required and had the guts to carry it out despite some opposition from Sony in regards to her preference for Daniel Craig.

Not forgetting my own opposition. Believe me, Casino Royale needed to be seriously good or I would have been calling for her to be arrested like Michael G is in the film. I was wrong, she was right. I guess that's why she runs a franchise and I do not.

Yeah, MNL, I hear what you're saying about another FYEO-style Bond with Brosnan back after DAD, I know that would've been perfectly satisfactory to outstanding for a lot of Bond fans, and no doubt would've done very good box office. I guess they were thinking, that too would've been a been-there, done-that kinda thing...

One thing Bond has always done to greater and lesser degrees, is renew itself. In that sense, CR isn't such a step away from Bond history, just a rather unique one that pushes the renew envelope. Bucking a major studio like Sony wasn't the easiest thing in the world I imagine, don't know I'd have the wherewithall to follow through on it either. Again, kudos to that headstrong lass. ;%

I have to share the kudos between Babs and Mickey. Babs was the one who pressed for Daniel Craig against the others, if rumours are to be believed, and bless her for that; but Mickey was the one who first conceived the "Bond Begins" idea back in 1986. I hated that idea when I first heard about it; but having seen it in action, I can only say well done to all concerned.

She's received no shortage of slagging---on this board, and others---for daring to do what she did in casting Craig, the departure from the Precious Classic Formula, etc. The most unseemly, if we recall, were the allegations that she only hired him to get him on the 'casting couch' 8-)

Shock of all shocks, she seems to know what she's doing...or, as the more stubborn cynics and detractors might still maintain, even at this late date: she's very lucky
