    First: i'm a male
    Second: i'm not gay

i say this because my enemies (like i have some :D )but i have to say this: CRAIG ISN'T THE SEXIEST MAN IN THE PLANET. Perhaps he is the most popular, the most seen or the one with more media, but sexy? why?

OK, his body (the bloody water scene WHICH I HATE) his voice, he is blond and with blue eyes... all that stuff, but besides the body he is pretty much the same as the one the year before, and in 2007 he won't be Bond in a movie, so he probably is goning to be 2007 sexiest man alive...

those polls are weird, but hey, free advertising is the best advertising.

P.S. before you say something, read my signature

I think you could also add:

    3. I am only one person.

To be honest, I'm not surprised that he has been voted that. He is certainly the "face of the moment" and as we know beauty is often perceived as a fashion (would everyone call Kate Moss beautiful? I think not).

Do you realize we are saying the same thing? i'm ok with it, besides i can't do anything to prevent it. it is because the moment, is subjective as well.

Anyhow, i WILL sustain my point about the water scene

Typical promotional hyperbole (I doubt the 65 percent of the world that's Asian, for instance, would concur), but many people on this board predicted as much. Perhaps we're moving away from the overgrown suburban teenager/catalog model look.

Kudos to Craig and couldn't happen to a more deserving bloke after all the crap from this past year. Irony indeed. :v

This reminds me of the time Patrick Stewart was voted the sexiest man on television in the world ever, or something.

He *is* a sexy bloke and a sexy Bond. He just has it, and if I could bottle it I'd make a million!

As discussed in a previous thread, women want him and men want to be him!! I would love to see the results of a survey where straight guys were asked to name their sexiest man on the planet - secure guys only need apply :)) I still think someone like DC or Christian Bale would be towards the top of the pile in light of their public personas and the film roles they have had.

Ben, you're certainly right that the "award" means jack, but I'm starting to lose track of the number of women I've heard go on about how sexy Craig is. Just a couple of weeks ago, they were discussing CR on a local call-in radio show, and a woman came on and gushed about the "gorgeous" Daniel Craig. I'm a teacher and even one of my female students called him sexy, and several other girls nodded their heads. When Craig was first cast I said to myself, "I'm better-looking than that guy!" Now, I'm not so sure. . .

I hope that no one's genuinely bothered by this, as that would be kinda sad. Craig is Bond---and he's popular :o So what?

Cheer up, Craig Haters---when he's done with the role, and Actor #7's the New Guy, Craig will be the one in the fish barrel 8-)

If acknowledging it is crowing, then guilty as charged, ben. ;) Funny, but I doubt it would mean jack--or at least such little jack--if it were someone you agreed with...Connery, Brosnan, Dalton and Moore even if I remember correctly all had such articles or polls or whatever, where were the dismissive naysayers then? It is a bit of nothing, but it's a bit of positive nothing that is very in line with popular sentiment these days. Nothing to do backflips over, or nuke. Just what it is. And, well, there's also the irony...

Frankly, being genuinely bothered by this seems kinda sad. Craig is Bond---and he's popular :o So what?

Cheer up, Craig Haters---when he's done with the role, and Actor #7's the New Guy, Craig will be the one in the fish barrel 8-)

And he'd better be 5-11, with prominent ears, a busted nose, blond hair and blue eyes if he's going to be believable as Bond. :))

I would only add this to the debate over the award: The award isn't about being best-looking. It's about being "sexiest." And that, my male friends, is something you and I, as heterosexual guys, can't feel quite the way women can. It's a point I've made over and over on this site. We can recognize a "good-looking" guy as well as the next person; what's "sexy" to a woman isn't quite as evident.
But I can tell you that "confidence" is a key factor. I'm not talking about being at ease in interviews and that type of thing. That's superficial confidence -- you can fake that. But at ease with who you are. I thought it was amusing when so many guys on this site were having a fit over Craig's talking about a "gay scene" in Bond. Someone asked, a bit nervously, "is Craig a little different?" No, but his ability to wax about such a scenario in such a relaxed way is just an example of how secure and confident he is. He's not worried his masculinity will rub off. Or if he's good-looking enough to be Bond, or to make love to this or that woman, or if he looks odd in jeans and suit jacket and vest. He's confident about who he is. And it's a character trait that he projects very well. And it's a trait women like.
Do you think Clooney is just a pretty face and that's the only reason why women adore him? Watch the guy. No one in the world has been more at ease since Sinatra. All the great male stars have it. That's what the "charisma" is all about. I'm not suggesting a woman doesn't appreciate a nice chassis. But she won't overlook the non-visual facts about you the way a man will with a woman.

And thankfully, we'll always have Connery's seven Bond performances to watch whenever we want. It's a wonderful thing, and nothing can ever change that.

Laughter certainly is a good medicine. Perhaps polls like this will have you in complete hysterics by the time Craig's tenure as Bond is over with, as I can see this `sexiest man alive' label sticking with him now, and will only increase as each new Bond film is upon us.

Nooo, I think he's good and fugly. I can't pretend the emperor is wearing clothes.

This is the lamest "award" I've ever heard of - not only is it obviously tainted by recent PR and Bondmania (a good thing I know), but I love that the "planet" seems to only consist of Brits, Depp & Clooney. This is about as scientific and reliable as an applause-meter. What the hell is Durex anyway? Is that a laundry detergent or a condom? I think fugly male Bond geeks, people who want to feel 'with it', and women who love fugly men as long as they're famous and just happen to be playing the coolest secret agent in the universe tipped the scales.

What happens now, do he and Clooney (People's "Sexiest Man Alive") cagefight it out, have a duel to the death?

I love that people who were dismissing every negative poll about Craig back in the day as ridiculous and inaccurate are now crowing over silly bulls--t like this.

    It means exactly jack.

No chip on the shoulder there, then! :D

Polls like this are obviously not science, but they do tell us something:

-Casino Royale was a very successfull film

-Perhaps women miss masculine men among all the prettyboys in Hollywood?
  • bluemanblueman PDXPosts: 1,667MI6 Agent
Not automatically, no. But there are quite a lot of handsome and bland, handsome and talentless, etc. male actors out there, who get roles in films based on how good they look on camera and little else. That goes for female actors as well (well duh). When somebody like Craig comes along--handsome and charismatic AND he can act--people sit up and take notice. Because it does seem rare these days...

No, really, I mean DC :) It has been said of him here too before, believe it or not. Maybe that's the Bond thing though more than the actor ?:)

IMHO he is sexy but what people forget is that sexy is subjective to the individual. I honestly have never seen what others see in George Clooney, I have always thought he was an old man, even in ER. I think Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe are less than attractive so it really does prove the old adage of 'one (wo)man's' meat etc....

Exactly. It's much more about the character itself than any of the actors.
