Skrillex's newer album BANGARANG...yes. In reference to HOOK. The song of that name is sooo sick and makes reference to the movie several times. My inner nerd is pleased.

The Horrors & Florence from the NME Awards with Still Life...looking forward to seeing both of these next week B-)
The Last Film. It's one of those songs that I liked at the time but not enough to buy or record on tape. It stuck in my head though. As the years passed I began to love it more and more. Not a big hit then but a very big hit now.
as for me, I found an old CD a friend made me of her faves from a band called Theatre of Tragedy. they're quite good! I'd forgotten about them til she had one of their songs on in her car the other night. it was this song oddly enough, cause my friend's name is Cassandra :P
Elvis Presley was undoubtedly one of the greatest performers and icons of the 20th Century despite the sad decline and nature of his death. I have had the very good fortune to visit his home Graceland and also Sun Records where he recorded many of his most famous songs. An experience I will always treasure. Elvis loved gospel music and my favourite is How Great Thou Art. A very powerful and emotional song.
Makes me feel like I am on vacation in paradise and spotting perfect woman pass by in slow motion on the beach. If only I were Sean Connery handsome. B-)
Vintage Genesis. Two tracks from their album Trick Of The Tail performed live back to back split by a wonderful drum duet. My brother introduced me to this thirty years ago and it's as wonderful to me now as it was back then.
Well as I was uploading pics to photobucket (of the bond in motion exhibition - see Events and screening thread) I decided to put on the QoS soundtrack.....

She's worth whatever chaos she brings to the table and you know it. ~ Mark Anthony
A few months in and she still has my interest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeQyPxbxnGM&feature=relmfu). I love the production, lyrics, and unusual vocal deliveries. Even her personally assembled video-collages select some great American culture shots that just make her 60s draw grow.
She does indeed remind me of Nancy Sinatra, who I have also been listening to:
I definitely have a soft spot for The War Of The Worlds. The 1950's film is one of my all time favourites and the 2005 version with Tom Cruise was a very respectable and enjoyable remake. Jeff Wayne's 1978 War Of The Worlds musical album matches the 1950's film for it's sheer brilliance. Great contributions from Richard Burton, Justin Hayward, Phil Lynott, David Essex and Julie Covington. Picking one track is not easy but I am going for Thunderchild.

I went to watch a live version of this a few years back...conducted by Jeff and featuring Justin Hayward, with many others...brilliant stuff ! I recommed seeing the live version....
He's touring with a new version now...Liam Neeson has taken over from Richard Burton (using a full body holographic image)...and Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs) is touring with it too...plus lots of new special effects...

Thank you for the recommendation, Sir Miles.
I took the opportunity to look at some You Tube footage of various live versions and it looks and sounds fantastic.
For those who have not seen the live version here is a sample from the B.I.C. Bournemouth (2010) with Jason Donovan as the Artilleryman. The camera work is a bit shaky but stick with it.
Some time around the mid 1990's a work colleague kindly gave me a tape recording he had made of a band called Portishead, I had never heard of them. When I played the tape my initial thought was "this sounds different" but in a good way. Within minutes I was hooked and have been a fan ever since. Only three albums released to date but definitely a case of quality ahead of quantity. My favourite song is Sour Times.
But it was a glorious day up here today, Spring had sprung and with unseasonable warmth and the sun splitting the skies, as I made my way down the west of Loch Lomond I had this belting out with the windows down...

I had the very good fortune to see Big Country perform live at Wembley Stadium in 1987. They were supporting David Bowie on his Glass Spider tour. Great performance and what a fabulous sound they produced. 'In a Big Country' is probably their most famous song but my big favourite is 'East Of Eden'.

I think I've mentioned it on here before, a few years back, about a brilliant 80s Scottish film called Restless Natives, Big Country scored the whole thing, and it goes incredibly well with the opportunity to showcase Edinburgh and the Scottish highlands. Brilliant score, and a brilliant laugh. It's about two young lads in the rougher end of the capital, Wester Hailes, supplementing their poor income by robbing tourist coaches and basing themselves on Rob Roy McGregor, who then become a tourist attraction in themselves. And the FBI happen to get involved

Great choice...I remember buying The Crossing when it came out and playing it to death ! I'm still surprised they didn't make it really big...
I prefer Chance and A Thousand Stars though -{
