It was one of the first 'pop' songs that I recorded (on tape, from the radio ) ...
Trying not to get the DJ's voice at the end - happy days
Not entirely happy days because they often did not play the records in full.
I still have the tapes and will continue to listen to them from time to time.
I then went on to perfect the same technique with the video recorder and had VHS compilation tapes of Duran Duran, Ultravox and many other classic 80's bands ) )

I would often watch pop videos but was never really a fan of them. Certainly not enough of a fan to compile any tapes. But even if I was they would not be any good to me now. First, I owned a Betamax recorder. Second, I got rid of the tapes years ago.

Yes, I was. And I will always maintain that Betamax was better. Betamax 'till the day I die. )

From what I've heard Betamax was indeed better but JVC got their marketing right. You need this in writing Moore Than and then you can bring it out whenever you need to.
I can remember from a Documentary that if you want to know what
new format is going to get chosen, simply checkout what the Porn makers
are going with. They chose to go with VHS and Blu-ray. )

The song I really want to listen to is the new theme song from SKYFALL. Hopefully it will be a good one this time. I'm still trying to get the awful "Another Way To Die" out of my head.
After last nights closing ceremony of the Paralympics I have just about every Coldplay song going through my head .... I'm not even that much of a fan !!!

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick.
Need to sort through the CDs I bought over the summer and get them on my computer to take back to university at the end of the week. I've not used my iPod much as I prefer my stereo at home but it's very old and too big to take. This 'sorting' will more likely involve me listening to Jethro Tull, Roxy Music, Fun., We Are Scientists, Pigeon Detectives and The View. Thinking about typing this, I got a lot more CDs over the summer than I thought!
But it has to be said that it's not one of my Cure favourite's. I remember you posted a pretty good cover version of 'A Forest' a while back, but The Cure's version is a classic. And this song isn't too bad either.

I really like the chorus lyrics ("Hollywood's Dead, Elvis is crying, Marilyn's sad, Hendrix is lying there") which cleverly and somewhat disturbingly adds in the different names of famous Hollywood dead stars each time the chorus rolls (Hollywood's dead, Elvis is crying, Lennon wake up, Cobain stop lying there"). All in relation as usual to the tragic outlook of all of Lana Del Rey's writing from her 'Hollywood sadcore' style.

Thank you, Lexi. I had never heard that re-mix version of 'A Forest' before.
I have not got or listened to the 'All mixed up' album. To be honest, I've never been a big fan of The Cure. Many years ago a work colleague put together a compilation on tape of The Cure's singles (including the B sides) from 'Killing an Arab' to 'In Between Days' and kindly gave it to me. Some of it was/is very good but some of it left/leaves me cold. I've never felt the inclination to check out more of their music since then.

ahh, the days of mixed tapes - can't really do the same with MP3's... a mixed CD just doesn't have the same allure...
Christ the 90's was a good time for music, these days is SH1T compared, and I don't care if you kids take offence, JLS, mika and all that mass manufactured bubble-gum cheese on toast BS sucks crap through a straw.

I don't take offence, but I don't have to agree with you
The last 10 years, in my opinion, has produced some excellent music, Florence and The Machine, Adele, Gorillas, Elbow, The Killers, Kings of Leon to name just a few....
I think each decade produces great artists, and as we get older, we might not identify so much with the newer music. I really rate Dubstep...but its not for everyone, but I also like the bubblegum pop of the 80's, as well as the pop of today...but to make an absolute statement and say an entire decade of music is crap....well you're obviously reached the 'grumpy old sod' age....

Here is their re-mix version of that track you like so much -{
