Hi FelixLeiter, the best CD for that era is the V&A's Art Deco Collection, released to tie in with their exhibition of a few years back. I thoroughly recommend it, because the songs are Continental and a bit stylish, not all like the kind that play at the end of a scene in Dad's Army. Has that song Boum that Silva plays in Skyfall.

Thanks Nap. I'll check that out.
I spent yesterday listening to a 1940s playlist on YouTube, which I stumbled upon after listening to Glenn Miller again.
Today I have changed genre somewhat and am listening to N.W.A. - Fuk tha Police, which one of my lecturers introduced us to. I have done a module called 'Protest and Reform in the USA' and we had a section on 'Music and Protest'. We had Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit, Bob Dylan - Blowin' in the Wind and Aretha Franklin - Respect amongst others. It gave me a lot of music I would never have listened to before, including N.W.A., which is certainly making revision on Reagan more bearable.
You can't say my tastes aren't varied. )
Relax darling, I'm on top of the situation -{

Jeff Buckley's version of Strange Fruit is worth a listen I believe, not heard it myself, the guy who plays him in a new movie said so.
