Oh, how I wish! I was just thinking about these two particular AMs in 1/18th scale. A couple of weeks ago, a toy dealer told me that Ertl/Joyride lost the Bond license and the CR cars are the last they are doing. That could be good news if a more ambitious manufacturer picks up the line, but I was a bit disappointed, thinking that these AMs might have been just around the bend.

bring back AutoArt, put one of the Ertl/Joyride cars next to an AutoArt model and theres just no competition, the AutoArt blows em out of the water.

Anyone know if there are 1:18 scale die casts of the Aston Martin vehicles from On Her Majesty's Secret Service and/or The Living Daylights (either version)?

There's nothing currently but it took Corgi some 30 years to do a DBS ... a large scale version could still happen.

If you have a chance to attend any sort of toy fair or model car makers meet, they can offer a wealth of information. For instance, rather than my modifying an existing model, a dealer pointed me toward a discontinued Mustang in the proper color, etc. for a 1/18th GF diorama I had in mind. Unlikely something like a 1/18th Aston could go unnoticed but who knows.

My 1/18th Holy Grail is Tracy's '69 Cougar from OHMSS. There are tons of models available but always as hardtops with extra options (namely, the two piece grille) in place; unlikely anyone is going to issue the less popular body design unless someone does a Bond version. Funny that Corgi didn't revisit the Eliminator in their recent collections.

Is there an existing Thread here somewhere regarding scale model cars? At the risk of taking my own thread in an inappropriate direction, my 1:18 grail is the 1966 Barris Futura Batmobile (one of which I did manage to acquire earlier this year, in resin as a kit). Interested in other discussions along that line as well, w/ discussion on Oldsmobile lines.

    Okay, w/ that I'll step back. B-)

I was excited when Mattel announced that they've landed the license to the Barris Batmobile, which they will produce in 1/18, 1/43 and 1/64th scale, in 2007:

About Oldsmobiles, we owned an Omega when I was a kid!

I have the two versions made by Sunstar, and I managed to get seperately an Eliminator hood that has the unique scoop. I also have a rear-mounted ski rack that came from Solido's Kharman Ghia model. I just have to set aside some time and take the plunge to put everything together.

Sunstar is also coming out with a Benz model that is close in appearance (but not the same) as the SPECTRE Benz that would just require some modifications in the headlights...then there's some diecast woodys by Jada, I think, that have surf racks that could double for the SPECTRE ski rack; a project like this, however, is too far off the radar for me to even consider.

There are invariably new threads whenever a specific new model hits the market like the ERTL DB5 or Lotus. Someone started a model car thread just last week but the only participants seemed to be the originator and myself! In terms of an an on-going Bond-related 1/18th thread, you may have just started one ...

Utterly off-topic but great news. I am thoroughly disappointed that of all the Batmobiles Corgi have recently issued, none was a Barris; I was also crushed when I saw that Danbury had gone a simimlar route with their Batmobile ... especially given how perfect their DB5 is. I was sooooo tempted last summer to bid on a "crime fighter" pedal car (they couldn't legally call it the Batmobile, I guess, but it was terrific Barris replica) and still visit the 1/6 scale site [ http://www.gamesandbeyond.com/review/batmobile/batmobilereview1.html ] from time to time.

But all of the SunStar I've seen have the split grille and the hardtop ... or have I missed something?

There's a Cadillac hearse due out in the Spring that's near dead-on match for Slumber, Inc.; I have one on pre-order.

Only moderately off-topic: Who here has the 1/18th Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (not a Bond car but a Fleming invention as realized by Adam and the EON team!)? Decent detail, displays nicely. The chrome version--which was initially a special edition I think--seems now to have become the standard model, the original having looked sort of dingey. Disappointed, though, in the all plastic construction (I've corrected descriptions by some die-cast dealers who assumed it's metal just because it's 1/18th!) and that none of the figures issued by the same company at the same time will actually fit inside! Also wish the wings unfolded instead of snapped on. Hopefully the new movie will inspire the likes of an AutoArt to issue a really robust, full-featured model.

Yes, I hope to remedy the grill differences with some "surgery." I'm also considering getting the Ertl "Christine" Plymouth Fury to cannibalize the working twin headlights. As for the convertible roof, there are techniques to replicate that with fabric and putty underneath to simulate the protruding ribbing effect.

On Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I totally forgot about that new line by the Stevenson Entertainment Group; did you mention a new version of Chitty comming out?

Broccoli supposedly plans to film the stage version of CCBB (which has a slightly different story line than the movie); hopefully, there'll be some new toys. However, since the car remains the same throughout, they could just keep re-issuing Corgis.

At the NEC a few years back, a fellow from the CCBB fan club showed me a 1/12 or 1/18 Chitty made in Japan circa '68 that was just beautiful; it was such a slavish englargement of the Corgi car, though, that they even duplicated the box!

    That's a 57 Ford Fairlane:

    http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_7376-Ford-Fairlane-Skyliner-1957.html

There seems to be a couple or so diecasts of this model available on eBay, but not in the exact color scheme of the movie car:

Can you give me more details for locating this hearse?

I was referrring to this one:
    http://www.fairfieldmint.com/inventory/66_cadillac_hearse_6M/
The one in DAF is just a tiny bit different; probably a '68. Close enough.

They also make a model similar to the one which gives chase in DN: http://www.fairfieldmint.com/inventory/37_studebaker_op/

I don't think these are exclusive to Fairfield but I know from checking on some other models that their prices are in keeping with other dealers.

Anyone care to speculate on Bond's Bentley?

In 1/18th? No such luck. There's a number in 1/43 including one from years back by LLS (guy in France is still making them; has a new CR version out in gray). Many modern Bentley's on the market but very few "antique" vehicles--of any marque--in 1/18th. The Bentley being a "book" car, I don't see anyone tooling-up for; too esoteric.

Bought myself one, too. Clerk asked if I needed batteries but I explained it will probably never be out of the box!

I noted in another thread (where availability of the DBS was announced) that the RS website says DB5 (though shows the DBS). I'm sure it's a typo, but they did issue both Vanquish and DB5 Zip Zaps so I remain hopeful we get an RC classic Aston, too.

    Similarly off-topic ...

Dell noted elsewhere the BMW R1200 cycle at 1/6 and just how large that is. One of the things we keep begging for around here is a 1/6 DB5. As much as I'd love to own one, I wonder just what anyone would do with it; it would be HUGE. (The Vanquish pedal car--which I'd guage at 1/4--is beastly.)

Now, that said, I wonder how the licensing stands? I don't see Sideshow making it; too far outside their capabilities (they own some tooling but don't even make their own figures, for example). Yet they may hold the license for all 1/6 scale products. I once tried to contact New Bright (who make alot of decent 1/6 toys) about this but never got anywhere.

Maybe this should just be the Bond replicar thread ...

I'm all for revising, expanding this topic as well. Or start a new one w/ a more appropriate title and I'll follow you all there!

Actually, as the person who initiated this thread, you can alter the title yourself by editting the initial post.
What would you do w/ it? ... Then I thought, "mount it sideways on the wall."

Tough angle to construct a diorama; I can just see nailing the action figures' feet to the wall ...

I'm reminded that for several years I wanted a diorama of the tank from GE; I had a 1/6 scale model from 21st Century Toys of a WWII Sherman but was holding-out for a Russian tank someone had in the works. Ultimately, though, I gave-up; again, it was the space/finances available versus unlicensed item issue.

I have to wonder about the guys who collect only 1/6 figures and accessories: Once you have a jeep and a Howitzer and a sand bag or two and some figures .... don't you pretty much need a separate house? Long before the current craze, Hasbro had brochures with suggestions for G.I.Joe dioramas. Even though they gave instructions for things like oil drums made from fruit juice cans, the photos showed museum-grade layouts with cyclorama backings, etc. that must have been hundreds of square feet with dozens of figures storming Anzio or the like.

The Bentley that was included in the LLS range was actually produced by another company, Brumm I think (can't lay my hands on mine to check at the moment). Airfix also produced a 1/12 scale plastic kit many years ago, which I believe was re-released a couple of years ago.

    Hello Alan,

I am sure, that you are aware, that there IS a 1:6 or 1:5 scale DB5 out. I must have somewhere some paperwork, like ASP9mm burried in an attic, unlike ASP9mm not under french porn.

There's a fellow (German, in fact) who makes 1/8 models but nothing commercial, which is what I think people are asking after: A licensed, affordable DB5. As for 1/6, I've never seen anything at all ... though there was a fellow who posted here who had one in solid wood (that might have still been 1/8, however ... searching AJB doesn't turn up anything).

I'd forgotten he had a DB5 though recall there being another Bond car shown (but forgot it was the Bentley).

    That raises several points:

    1. Superado can confirm, but I think the DB5 is 1:8; it looks the same size as mine (might just be the camera angle; the Bentley is clearly 1:6).

    2. When Dell asked after Bentleys, I was thinking "Blowers" and other film incarnations despite associating Bentley with the books. The post war years were so dicey for Bentley, seems even less likely to result in any mainstream 1:18 models. There's some wild body work I could see some of those Italian handcraft firms doing, though.

    3. Okay, while that is a large scale DB5, it's not the one I was thinking about! There's another thread here someplace where several of us--Superado included, I think ... which is why I seem to recall his being 1:8--discussed big DB5s.

I do remember seeing a model version of the TLD Aston at an Aston Martin race meeting some years back. The guy on the stall said it was a prototype of a never-made model line- it certainly wasn't customised from any other model car and was a pretty decent AMV8 shape.

Just edited your spelling of "customised" ;)

You mean a model at 1:18th? Did it have the skis or any other Q Branch features?

Hi Alan, yes, my DB5 is indeed a true 1/6th scale, as best as my calculations allowed. Years ago, I bought 1/8th scale plans of a DB4, which I enlarged at Kinkos. In fact, I'm a little concerned that it might be bigger, at 1/5.5 scale, because the craftsman in the past has "admitted" to making this size to allow 1/6th scale figures to fit heightwise since the solid seats don't depress downwards like the real thing. An indicator that made me suspicious is that Connery's 1/6th scale buttocks does not reach the top of the front fender, per one of the common pics of him leaning/sitting on the DB5's fender...then again, as with the seats, the suspension of the real DB5 would have lowered a bit due to Connery's weight.

As for the DB5 thread, Nightshooter is right that we discussed different models a bit on the "Shrine" thread, but now I do recall...maybe that there was another thread on large scale DB5s.
