Michael Apted

Would Michael Apted make as good a job as he did first time round if he got Bond 22?

It'd make sense to have a director whos already familiar with Bond. Plus 'The World Is Not Enough' was Brosnan's best outing. :007)

I don't agree that TWINE was Brosnan's best outing (IMO GE was), but I do consider Apted to have been the best Brosnan director. I would have loved for Apted to have directed CR, instead of Campbell who IMO lessened what could have been a great film. Campbell annoys me in many ways (such as his obsession on Bond's sexism) in which Apted does not. I would love for Apted to return, since I thought his direction of TWINE was superb (especially considering its less than perfect script.) I also consider Apted to be among the very best of the Bond directors.

It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

I agree generally, though Apted never really did the action much and handed over to the second unit... ideally I'd have Apted as the main guy and Campbell as second unit, which can't happen!

Apted was the only guy who could direct a run of the mill scene in my view without it seeming implausible...

I really did not like TWINE. Also he directed the first 3 episodes of the great HBO series Rome and the first 3 are my least favorite of the series. So, count me as a vote against Mr. Apted.

Apted handled the story well, but the action wasn't top notch.

Apted's outting felt a lot like a Moore era film, so I'm not sure I want a return to that style. On the other hand, I had doubts based on "Goldeneye" that Martin Campbell could actually pull off the reboot, and I'm happy to say I was wrong. If Apted could pick up the pace, get a better cast than one with Denise Richards, find a way not to waste talent like Robert Carlyle, get rid of camp, like the tie straightening, and make the action sequences tense, then he might work. If not, better to rehire Campbell or go with someone fresh to the franchise . . . I don't think she'd be interested, but Niki Caro might be an inspired one, as I think she'd want to develop the characters more than a typical action director would.

If Bond 22 is going to be a character piece (and I half hope it should be), then most definitely get Apted, as he did an excellent job with TWINE.

Moreover I think Apted deserves a second crack at Bond. :D

Sorry to be bringing back old topics, but I think Michael Apted did an excellent job with TWINE and I would love to see him return for Bond 23. Many people complain about the action, but actually the film ran for about 150mins & Michael was dissapointed that so much was cut out for pacing. Also, if MGW & Babs get their asses into gear they might get Bond 23 out for Nov 2010 before Michael hits the big 70! BTW with the new DC Bonds it is unlikely that much will be cut out this time round. It would make sense to have a director who is already familiar with Bond.
