Its only taken 44 years and 20 films to become the darling of the critics :))

Well done to all at Eon and those involved with CR and DC for their nominations. {[]

I am so pleased for CR, and for Babs and Mickey. The one that knocks me out is the nomination for Daniel Craig - an acting nomination for a Bond film! Unbelievable!

Having said that, I don't think it will win anything as the competition's too strong - but it's great to see it.

Amazing. Very happy for Daniel Craig. :007) Forest Whitaker is probably the favourite though. As for the Outstanding British Film of the Year Award, there's a chance, but there's some serious competition. I wouldn't worry too much about 'Notes on a Scandal,' that's the type of middlebrow literary adaptation they make for people who see themselves as too grand for popular cinema, but don't like anything too arty either. It's probably going to be between the other three and I wouldn't begrudge 'United 93' winning as it's a remarkable film.

Mind you, I don't see why CR didn't get a nomination for Best Film as well considering what else has been nominated. 'The Departed,' is a remake that's getting too much praise because a lot of critics are unwilling to admit that Scorsese has become the new Woody Allen, in that he made great films once, but now he doesn't. As for 'Babel,' just because a film takes itself very seriously doesn't mean everybody else should. And 'Little Miss Sunshine, is the kind of feelgood indie film that wants its ass kicked.

As much as I adore Scorsese, I will have to agree with you. :'( I think The Departed is a very good film, but I don't think it's great, and I certainly don't think it's his best film in 16 years (since Goodfellas) as some critics consider it to be. I do like it alot, but considering that Scorsese has made some of the greatest films of all time, I don't think it is nearly as good as his best films.

I also agree about Babel. Although I don't hate it, I don't particularly like it as I find it to be manipulative and rather thin and undeveloped. I really hope that after Crash last year (which I hated), it doesn't win Best Picture at the Oscars, let alone get nominated. :#

In regards to Little Miss Sunshine, I really enjoyed it, however I don't think it's the best film of the year.

United 93 is a brilliant film, and if it won I wouldn't complain, but I don't know if it is the best film of the year, considering that there's quite a few films I'm yet to see.

In regards to CR, I'm delighted that a Bond film is receiving this amount of critical attention, even though I don't agree. ;) (If that sounds like a backhanded compliment to anyone, you would be right :v however that is the closest to a compliment CR is getting on this thread from me. :p :D)

The Brits are definitely more "with it" than us Yanks. Hey, Academy--have a look at this list and take a hint, willya?

Oh, and congrats to EON, Sony, and all the rest. After all the crap you've eaten (some of it dished out by me a while back), this must be a tasty dessert indeed!

Great news for CR!! But there again, nothing more than what it deserves.

It is easily the best thing to come out of Hollywood in years, and as for Craig's performance, I think it is actually very under-rated. I think because he is playing Bond, his actual acting strength is being overlooked somewhat.

The performance he pulls off is nothing short of brilliant (especially the torture scene).

Bring on the Oscars, that's all I'll say. And well done to EON/Craig, for pulling off the bravest movie stunt in history - and it succeeding beyond everyone's wildest dreams.

(I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Deanna Brayton's room right now....:v)

She's probably still convinced that Eon Productions are about to admit defeat and reinstate Brosnan. 'Any minute now,' she'll be thinking, 'Any minute now. There'll be a press conference and everyone will see I'm right.' :D

What a difference a year makes. Who would have believed this when all the controversy was raging.

Isn't it wonderful to see a Bond film receiving such recognition. What a coup it would be if Daniel Craig received the best actor award and Casino Royale the best British film......Well, I can dream.

What's sad is, how long it's taken EON to get back on the top-notch filmmaking train. :( No reason whatsoever they couldn't have been making films like this all along, and hopefully it'll be a very long while before they lower their standards again.

Glad that CR turned out as well as it did, and is getting the recognition it deserves. Kudos to the new EON. {[]

There was a critic on the news tonight who was making noises that one of the reasons that the film has been nominated so widely is down to DC's outstanding track record of films and that due to his acting talent and the fact that he does such a stirling job he's propelling the film and the franchise forwards.
  • bluemanblueman PDXPosts: 1,667MI6 Agent
    Wouldn't argue with that. ;)

    Count me in on that sentiment -{

I imagine they might take a couple---Stuart Baird, for instance---but win or not, nine nominations is most impressive.

My congratulations to Eon, and Ms Broccoli in particular...

With the BAFTA's only two days from now (and Casino Royale nominated for nine of them) I thought I would check out the latest betting odds.

In the Best Actor category, Forest Whittaker is the clear favourite to win with Peter O'Toole second and Daniel Craig third. Eva Green is favourite to win the Orange Rising Star Award and Casino Royale is the favourite to win the Adapted Screenplay Award. I couldn't find any odds relating to the Best British film or any of the other categories that relate to Casino Royale.
