What do people say about CR to you?
Most people that I have talked to about CR said that absolutly loved it.
All of them only had one complaint. Too Long.
What about you guys?

My brother did't love CR. Although he saw it in India (in which most of the 'sex scenes' were cut out), he remarked to me that he didn't think it felt like a Bond film. Part of this was due to the lack of gadgets but also due to Bond's lack of sexism. He's not a big fan of it. I don't know what his girlfriend thinks.
My mother also didn't love it and remarked that it felt like a TV Movie. Of my two cousins, one of whom loves some of the older Bonds such as FRWL and GF, neither loved it. I don't remember exactly what they said.
It's interesting, because while I'm not a huge fan of CR, I liked it more than they did, yet there were elements that annoyed/infuriated me much more that it did them (me being a much Bond bigger Bond fan than them.)
Quite the contrary to HH, most people I know have seen CR and it does seem to have grabbed quite a few that wouldn't normally bother with Bond. The big test will be if they go back for the next installment.
Absolutely. And I predict that this untapped U.S. audience that thinks it knows all about James Bond films will be out in force for Bond 22. They will have had time by then to see the DVD of CR and get a taste for the re-energized 007. I know they'll like it. I'm willing to bet the DVD will be No. 1 both in sales and in rentals here for a long, long time.
They said that Craig's looks hurt the overall picture for them. Putting it mildly, they referred to his face as...uh... seasoned.

The only person I have heard say that they didn't like it was my friend. He said he like DC but the movie just didn't seem Bondian enough to him, and he wanted to see more of a traditional Bond.
Philistines.
Then I'm one, too. I'm all for changes of pace (if falling short of total admiration for the reboot concept) but sooner or later the familiar, trademarked elements have to creep in again to keep the Bond identity ( ;% ) distinct from his imitators, parodists and downright plagiarists- who've been around as long as the series has with only their names changing over time.
One said it was gripping, but a bit baffling for much of the first half, with things not being explained, but it got the thumbs up. Another walked out before the end (she had a train to catch) but wasn't too impressed. My sister loved Craig, she's a convert, but had real trouble with the film. She likes Spooks a lot, but here she couldn't figure out why the villain should get offed way before the end, then we're supposed to care about the other villains we don't know about at the end, there's no sense of vengeance. She also didn't get what Bond was twigging when he goes "Matthis..." in the restaurant. Myself, I overlooked these points at the time as I was sort of extrapolating from the novel...

What the hell are you doing watching that pile of ****. Get a life.
But seriously folks. Very few people I know are Bond fans. My brother is and he really enjoyed Casino Royale, he's also a big Daniel Craig fan. My parents also enjoyed the film. My Father rated Craig the equal of Pierce Brosnan. My Mother compared Craig to Sean Connery in the manner he said those immortal words at the end of the film, but she was really much more interested in Vesper Lynd's Algerian love knot necklace. I also spoke briefly with a work colleague who had seen CR, he said he preferred DAD.....Well, someone has to.
*raises hand* B-)
Yeah I'm a Philistine, too if that's the case. Although it was a good movie(can't take that credit away), I too miss the usual trappings that are part of the 007 experience...

I think CR still had the familiar elements, even if the overall film was in a new direction.
Exotic locations - check.
Beautiful women - check.
Evil villain - check.
Large explosive ending - check.
Fast car - check.
Bond in tux - check.
John Barry type soundtrack - check.
Pre-credit sequence - check.
So the familar trappings were still there, to keep the traditionalists happy. And I think come Bond 22, the suaveness that wasn't evident in Craig's performance will be evident in the next one. This whole `rough diamond' behaviour was done deliberately by the scriptwriters.
Dear Phil(s):
As far as I'm concerned, all the familiar elements were present and accounted for: the exotic locations, the sophistication of the characters, the clothes, the cars, the shaken-not-stirred martini, the girls, the gadgets, the possible-but-highly-unlikely plot, the PTS, the stylized opening credits, "My name is Bond ... James Bond," and yes, even the almighty gunbarrel, etc ... just not blown up to caricature proportions. The only things really missing IMO were the Moneypenney and Q scenes. Now granted, those were often the most memorable scenes in the Bond films of the last 30 years, but I think CR managed to muddle through without them. ) And if it's a good movie, isn't that enough in the final analysis?
Apparently not seeing that we have 800 different threads on how this particular film is disected from the color of Craig's speedos to whether or not Eva Green has corns on her feet ; otherwise CR would be just one big thread with everyone agreeing with everything about it.
Don't get me wrong; I did enjoy this movie quite abit, I think that Craig did a fine job at the helm (great actor) but there were things in it that you may have found satisfying but I didn't. It's what makes for healthy conversation- differences of opinion.
I'm hoping that the "traditional" gunbarrel returns, Moneypenny in some form making a comeback and Q as well. Those are things I hold dear; many others here may care less...
...as far as I'm concerned of course...

Understood. In fact, I've made that very same point several times, which is why I assumed it would be OK to say that, in my humble view, most of the standard Bond elements are already there. (The last line was merely a rhetorical flourish in reaction to your saying that you enjoyed the movie).
I must have missed the thread on Eva's corns, but I may just offer an opinion on that, too )
) No, Night. I'm afraid you've got me mistaken with someone else.
I'll take responsibility for JOKER Eva but that's it. )

Well in that case...yes. She has chicken legs IMO. Olive Oyl straight- no curves whatsoever...

But once I changed my tie and jacket, the other people I have spoken to were calling CR their favorite Bond in a long, long, time.
One friend said he loved the fact that there wasnt any gadgets in the movie.
PS- There were some comments in this post re:the length of the movie possibly being too long. I was not only surprised when the film ended I was surprised at the way the film ended too. Not to say I didnt like the ending, I liked it very much but I did have a real feeling of, "Aw, it's over."
I do remember someone saying she had dirty feet or something. I forgot to check last time I saw the movie. )
But this just in: A guy at work just told me moments ago he saw CR and loved it. Saw it twice and plans to get the DVD. Craig is the best actor to play Bond since Connery two, in his honest opinion, and made the others look like "lightweights."
It's long, certainly, but I don't think I'm the only one hoping that the DVD is even longer (Peter Jackson to direct Bond 22, anyone? ) ).
