The soundtrack with the movie was amazing but unlike other bond soundtracks its boring to listen to without it being part of the movie.
Who else agrees?
Apart from the track Blunt Instrument, the Vesper ones and Bond...James Bond

I agree almost entirely - except I find the 'limited' use of the Bond Theme one of the soundtracks graces.
The use of Bond Theme 'cues' heightens my enjoyment of the soundtrack. The subtle cues just hint and tease through out which of course leads to the excellent final track that has a much greater impact because its not been completely over-used in 12 other previous tracks.
Yeah I'd agree. Haven't listened to it since November, apart from the tracks you mention, perhaps 'Dinner Jackets' too as it's a very dull album to put on. Tuneless tension music... yawn. Not sure why he went so far down the anti-melodic route- when I saw it again recently I did wonder why he didn't just put a nearly full version of You Know My Name under the airport chase sequence. I'm not sure why that wouldn't have worked- there isn't a nice full version anywhere in the film; it pops up and then vanishes straight away.
Very true, I still think its Arnolds best work, most cinematic, but yea its dull and unexciting compared to the others to listen as a soundtrack.
"Better make that two."
The only tracks that I find a little difficult to listen to are:
-Miami International; twelve minutes of really ordinary action music, although interesting in places
-The card game cues, while good do not make very good listening.
But, the flip side is there are some very nice cues which I find make very good listening.
- African Rundown - features the main theme extensively and I really like it. It shows that Arnold can produce good action music without the James Bond Theme. The african percussion gives it an interesting slant
-Blunt Instrument - a good rendition of the main theme with the Bond theme mixed in.
-Solange and Trip Aces - Solange had a very good theme written for her. Very beautiful theme, pity she didn't last that long
-I'm The Money and Aston Montenegro - More very beautiful music. I love it!
-Dinner Jackets, Vesper, City of Lovers and Death of Vesper - Vesper's theme is very good and works beautifully in these cues.
-The Names is Bond, James Bond - a pure, undiluted version of the James Bond Theme - what a fantastic way to finish the soundtrack album.
Well, in my opinion, even though you may need to skip through one or two section, I think CR soundtrack makes good listening.
Yea very true, as I was saying tracks like Miami International and the card game cues including Dirty Martini work extremly well in the movie, but less well listinging to it alone.
Its similar to Parahawks track on TWINE.

"Miami International" is one of the tracks which could have benefited from use of the Theme. Such a long piece, while effective in the film itself, has difficulties standing alone sans the visual element and some familiar riffs would have kept the interest level from flagging (without denying the impact of keeping the Theme proper till the end of the movie). Still, at least it holds together more cohesively (and with less drums!) than its counterparts "Antonov" and "Submarine".
The card game cues have the most difficult musical job in the score. A card game is not the most cinematic of scenes to film, and the composer is perhaps the directors most significant collaborator is creating tension, underlining drama, and raising the emotional atmosphere of an essentially static tableau without obtrusively impinging upon it- and there are other ways of doing that than merely by raising the volume or dynamics, as many do to raise false fears. Arnold, with the symbiotically copasetic support of Nicholas Dodds, expertly succeeds in walking the tightrope during these cues without over-reliance on established themes.

Thanks, hmd, and especially thank you since you're the one who started this thread. Maybe I should have put a "###POSEUR WARNING###- Contains phrases such as "Symbiotically Copasetic"!" )
This Casino Royale music is the best that David Arnold has done. Mostly because there are slower scenes so the music can use flutes and harp, and then for the action there are trumpets and horns.
I skip through the tracks I like best. Numbers
1,5,6,7,9,12,14,18,20,21,24,25. I have the basic CD. 6-Solange,9-Train-Montenegro,14-Vesper,18-crashing the Aston (heavy drums)20-Venice etc.
Play it on the car CD every other day.
