what the Bond girls did next...

As each 007 film draws to a close, we wave goodbye to our heroine, never to be seen or heard from again (except Tracey occasionally, and she's dead). I always wonder what happened to the girls after the credits rolled, for instance did Solitaire get a nice apartment in New York and enjoy an independent life running a Tarot reading parlour? (it would have to be a fake one because she lost her psyhcic powers)

There is a suggestion that Kara went on to become a famous cellist in the west, and that Lupe became consort to Presidente Ortega (think that was his surname) in LTK. I highly doubt that Stacey Sutton went back to her job as state geologist, maybe she retook control of Sutton Oil?

I'm sure that Melina Havelock could have begun running her parents' exploration busienss if she wanted, and that Octopussy would have had her cartel of businesses to fall back on, even if her smuggling operation got shut down. Wai Lin would have gone back to Chinese intelligence, Holly Goodhead back to CIA/NASA, Jinx to NSA, and Dr Christmas Jones back to any number of scientific organisations.

The fates of Natalya, Domino, Tiffany, Honey, and Mary Goodnight are less easily imagined, however. Anygone got any suggestions as to just what happened?

P.S. it's also interesting to note that an appearance as a Bond girl seems to be a death knell to any fugure cinematic career - Andress was a middlign star at best during the 60s then vanished, and she remained by far the most prominent ex-Bondgirl movie star. Teri Hatcher has had some resurgence on TV, but even she spoke of how unhelpful, even harmful, TND was to her career. Even Halle Berry has struggled to recover her credibility. The only possible exception is Kim Basinger, I guess.

    I like this topic.

    Here are some suggestions:

-- Honey returns to a simple life of marine biology in tropical locales. Bond was a nice fling, but she's not the jet-setting type. She marries a local man (maybe a charter captain or an innkeeper) and settles down with a family.

-- Tiffany goes to work for Willard Whyte, starting out in menial casino jobs but eventually working her way up to Saxby's old position running the Whyte House. Using the film version rather than the literary version of the character, she remains single but...um...socially active. A brief affair with Whyte himself gives way to an amicable professional relationship.

-- Domino finds a rich widower, becomes his trophy wife and lives a life of luxury. Her kindness and harmless nature prevents conflicts with her husband's grown children. She wears her brother's dogtag around her neck at all times.

-- Natalya leaves Russia and finds work as a model in Sweden. :D

-- Mary Goodnight remains in MI6, in which she is posted to the locations where she can do the least damage (last known posting: Palau).

-- Pussy Galore revives her Flying Circus and transforms it into an all-female stunt flying show that tours the world for many years. She remains fiercely independent and single to this day.

    I'm stuck on Tatiana Romanova...
    Hilly...you old devil!

I like the cruel, but realistic sounding ending for Tania suggested in the novel of FRWL: she was interrogated for any information she may hold on the Russians, then quietly packed off to a new life in the Commonwealth somewhere.

    Here’s some.

Pussy Galore moves to Berlin and co-opens the Lesbian Kitty Kat Miaow Miaow Club with Jenny Flex.

After returning to the UK following her adventures with James Bond, Mary Goodnight is surprised when she opens her suitcase and finds Nik Nak inside. Despite his lack of height and her complete stupidity, they fall in love and move to a magical island owned by Ricardo Montbalm.

Referring to the mother lode for info. Fleming doesn't often mention what happened later, but here's a couple of snippets.

    From TMWTGG:
[Bond reflects on Honey from DN]
"What had happened to her? She never wrote. The last he had heard, she had had two children by the Philadelphia doctor she had married."

    From FRWL:
[M asks Bond about Tiffany Case]
"Well, sir, we did get on well. And there was some talk we might get married. But then she met some chap in the American embassy. On the Military Attache's staff. Marine Corps major. And I gather she's going to marry him. They've both gone back to the States, as a matter of fact."

I think it would have been crueler if the British sent her back behind the Iron Curtain where she probably would have been executed or sent to Siberia at the very least. At least, she probably has some freedom in Australia or Canada.
