P99 - The Definitive Replica

EagleEagle UKPosts: 261MI6 Agent
Hi All

First post and a question! ;)

What is the definitive P99 + removable silencer replica as used in CR? Is the one used in the Omega ads different?

I'm not that fussed about it being airsoft/gas whatever - just want it to be as accurate as poss to the film.

Have used the search but couldn't find the answer. I have my eye on three types on eBay and will link to them here for comments (if that's allowed).

Thanks,

Mark :)

    Thanks. :)

Would Bond really have a silver 'Casino Royale' stamped on the side of the silencer though?!

Can I post the eBay listings for comment? :) Well, I guess the mods can remove if they're aganst the roolz.

no, he wouldnt :) thats a bit of artistic licence, the maker, q-branch.com will also do them plain with no writing on the side.

dont see any reason why you cant post an ebay link, i do it all the time :D

Hi, Eagle. Yes, the maker is making a plain version for me, too.

    Here are more pictures:

    http://www.jhyphen.com/collection/view_details.asp?id=20000143

I turned the suppressor around a quarter turn to hide the markings, until I get the plain versions.

Also, here are a couple of pictures of the Vega holster:

And as I've said before, nobody does it better than www.007q-branch.com . Kev is a class act.

I don't doubt he is - but can I justify £120+ for something that will just go into a display cabinet and never be operated? ;)

What about the Umarex version? Any blatent innacuracies? I note that the P99 AS (0,5J BW) has 'a' silencer supplied but the AS wasn't used in the film.

So, to my untrained eye, this Umarex just might do the trick - but where would I get a silencer? :)

There's also this one... which looks ok. Kinda... :s

    :)

I am also interested in a cheaper alternative. Can't really warrant over £100.

I've seen cheap P99 spring-air pistols on eBay, some with plastic silencers, but I wouldn't put them on my shelf....

The Umarex versions are innaccurate as they are the newer design of P99. In CR, he uses a pre -2004 version which has a more eye pleasing profile than the newer versions. The second ebay listing you have is better but still not accurate. You would be better off spending the extra if you want 100% accuracy of the older P99 itself. Nobody has yet made a decent custom suppressor that is the same is the CR version, the nearest you can get is a small flat based Knight Armament suppressor. Although the standard long version is used in the title sequence. Q-Branch's version is in the spirit of the CR suppressor but is far from accurate. Looks really cool though, I'd recommend them highly.

This is also the new P99 and is very different from the old version, very ugly. The suppressor is a copy of the Knights suppressor, but it is too long by half. It is accurate to the titles suppressor though.

This listing is confusing as the P99 in the pic is accurate, but when you scroll down and get the larger picture with the big red writing, it is the newer version. I'd avoid this unless you can make sure which one he is selling.

Just to clear things up, this is the P99 made from 2004 onwards, and is NOT the version used by Bond:

    http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/VIII/p99-as.jpg

...and the version below is the one used by Bond in CR and made from the mid 90's till 2004:

    http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/VIII/4-1.jpg

The trigger guard, slide serrations, equipment rail and extended mag release lever are very different on the new version and lack the clean lines of the older one.

The link below would show you what a P99 would look like with a barrel converted for a real suppressor and not a movie one. All of Bonds movie guns have the thread on the inside of the barrel, if used with a real bullet and not blanks, it would result in Bond loosing his hand. Doesn't look very cool though with a barrel extension :

    http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/VIII/4-2.jpg

    http://www.praxagora.com/lunde/WaltherP99FAQ/I/3-2.jpg

To summarize all of this brain busting confusion of P99's. You can get a definitive version of the P99, but you won't get a definitive version of the suppressor as it was custom made by J Skottowe and his company, and will likely never see the light of day.

i read that Umarex didnt go with (the correct) method of the threaded barrel (extended) beyond the topslide, but did an internal thread so as to keep the barrel the original length (flush with the topslide) :s

    Very helpful insights -- thanks.

What specifically is inaccurate about the Q-Branch version? Maybe we can give Kev some revised reference and he can do a v.2.0.

EHobby Asia is selling several BIN Maruzen P99s on eBay for US $156.99 shipped to the USA. I think theyt ship to Europe, too, but not for that particular auction.

Mine arrived in five days. Of course, the threaded barrel for the silencer is another US $50.00 or so, and they are mostly out of stock until May.

if your not going to shoot the gun and use it mainly for display, i would go with the 29 quid gun shown in the link, it looks like the correct version to me (right triger guard topslide serations etc) as for a silencer, seeing as your not going to put any BB's through it, you could even make one yourself, it wouldnt even have to be threaded, could be made out of anything from aluminium to plastic, spray it matt or satin black, hell i think i might even have a go myself :o

They only put that on US-bound versions.

    ...I hope. :(

Can the Q-Branch silencers be fitted to them?

thats the same gun q-branch sells, would need to change the plastic barrel for a threaded metal one, though having said that, i got in touch with q-branch friday regarding a silencer and metal threaded barrel but was told there waiting for new stocks of the threaded barrels, but acording to kevin there, they can thread the standard plastic barrel to fit a silencer.

Yeah, and when you swap out barrels for the threaded version, you lose the plug anyway....

Is the gun marked with orange paint on the front/tip? Removable? Thanks

Yes it does have the orange tip.... That's a US legal requirement.

Removable? Yes I think, but I don't know how. Paint over it? Turpentine? Maybe some of the craftier people here have insights. Me? I just swapped out barrels....

you can get the threaded metal barrel from :-

    Q-branch.com

problem is there out of stock at the moment and wont be in for a couple of months :'(

Maruzen manufactures a threaded barrel and suppressor kit for approximately US $50. As noted, it seems to be out of stock at the moment. I checked most US airsoft suppliers and received a uniform reply that they should be back in stock in May. Until then, you may have to search eBay and hope for a lucky break. Once you acquire one, it's relatively easy to swap out the plastic barrel for the metal threaded one. Well let's put it this way, if I can do it....

    Here's a picture:

I've been looking into this, and I also spoke with Kevin from 007Q-Branch, who may chime in as well. When he first showed me the CR suppressor prototype, I questioned whether it had the perforations, as in the movie I didn't remember seeing them. Together we looked at some screen-caps, and I do believe he is correct about the perforations.

They are hard to make out, but I do believe they are there. I will try to post up some pictures later.

Interestingly, the perforations match those on the Umarex P99 airgun silencer, though that one does not have the inner sleeve:

    412.00.41_1_g.jpg

I'm not sure I agree that the suppressor is based on a Knight's Armament can, as KAC is based in the United States, and it seems that Bond tactical gear is decidedly European. None of the KAC suppressors I've seen resemble the one in CR.

But let's tackle this. Who knows what we'll discover? First off, does anyone have good reference pictures from CR?

im far from being an expert here, but, wouldnt those perforations defeat the object of a silencer/suppressor ?????

I think there is an inner sleeve on the Umarex version -- it's just hidden because it's thinner in circumference than the outer sleeve.

I think you would have the perforations to minimize heat....
