Cubby:"Until Doomsday."

In the excellent book James Bond:The Legacy there is a quote which I wish to share.

In 1974, Cubby is asked how long the series will last.

His response?

"Until doomsday."

With those two words, Cubby confirmed two things for me:

1- The series will survive as long as movies are being made. (Translation: Forever!)

2- Cubby was a visionary producer.

I only recently read this quote...but it has been my gut feeling since day one that Bond is not just a phenomenon of a series...it is beyond that now... uncharted film history is being explored.

It is my belief that Cubby was 100% right. He (and Harry) created a series that was designed to adapt and, like Bond, survive every concievable threat.

So here's to 007's unlimited future...cheers! (Looking forward to Bond #35 in Nov/2036!)

I think there's a good chance that James Bond will last until doomsday. I am not nearly as confident that the Eon series of James Bond films will last that long. With the success of Casino Royale and Daniel Craig as 007 I think it's safe to say that the series is looking good for the next decade. After that, who knows?

Should Eon eventually stop producing the films (for whatever reason) James Bond will live on in one form or another, whether it be more films, a TV series, radio series, etc.
