Bring Back Valentin!

Ok, so Valentin Zukovsky was shot in TWINE and now presumed dead, BUT seeing as Casino Royale has rebooted the series don't you think that it would be a good idea to bring him back, perhaps show how he and Bond first meet, when Bond shot him in the knee maybe? I think this would be a great idea as I thought Valentin was a great character! OF course if they did Robbie Coltrane would be the only man to play him!

No. A one-off character who got his encore.

Although I wouldn't object, I think he should only be brought back if the script specifically calls for it. The reason being that IMO he wasn't a prticularly significant character. I also don't think he's all that memorable; I like him, but he's not the first person I remember when I think of GE or TWINE.

I have to say though, if they do bring back back a Brosnan character, I would love it if they could bring back Xenia. ;) That would be one reason why I would go see Bond 22. :D

The possible return of Valentin Zukovsky has been discussed before. The previous occasion was only last month.

    Valentin Zukovsky

Considering what scott65 dealt with at college lately, we'll keep this one open.

I'm not opposed to bringing the character back, but as his prior relationship to Bond hearkened back to the Cold War, they'd have to tweak it a bit...and I've gotten a bit weary of the Russian Mafia/organized crime thing...

Perhaps as part of a future PTS...?

I'd like to see Coltrane return. Granted, the possibility is virtually nil and the feasability is negative, however I must disagree with previous statements in regards to his memorability.

In my humble opinion, Robbie Coltrane is one of the best things about the PB era, talk about charisma!

They brought Joe Don Baker back as an ally after he'd previously played a villain...

I say bring back Robbie Coltrane, and give him a new character/accent---perhaps his native one (!)...

    How about a chubby Q...?

    I will second that. :)

Valentin Zukovsky (as portrayed by Robbie Coltrane) was one of my favourite characters of the Brosnan era and I would not be opposed to his return. It's quite possible that Zukovsky's "death" scene in TWINE was filmed deliberately the way it was in order to leave open the opportunity of reviving him at some point in the future.

I'd like Natalya AND Zukovsky back but then that would open up millions of more cans of worms that we like to call... continuity.

"Continuity Brand Worms, now canned for extra Freshness" - Yum :D

There has been so much playing around with continuity throughtout the 45 years of Bond what does a couple more cans of worms mean?

I like Coltrane as an actor, and I liked the character of Valentine. and wouldn't object to him returning if the story fitted it. but I don't think Zukovsky fits with this "new Age" of Bond all too well so Coltrane as Zukovsky should only come back if his character fits the story, which I doubt wil happen. I have no objections, and would quite like Coltrane playing another character in a Bond film in the future though

Always the risk that when he returns, he'll be just like Sheriff Pepper in TMWTGG. What the hell was he doing there?

First off, Valentin is not dead, being a med student he simply could have fainted, with all that fat, its quite possible that the bullet never penetrated and just got stuck in the greater omentum.

Granted - but just because he's alive doesnt mean he has to return.

Valentin belonged in the Brosnan films and did a good job there. Keep him away from Craig's films!

I dont see why they shouldnt bring him back, for at least one more film, i mean, bond has been reset, they could show the story of their first encounter, where bond shot him in the leg resulting in his limp, in my opinion this wouldnt do the series any harm and could be interesting

I think their plan is to pretend the other bond films never happened, rightly or not. So we won't see Travellyan working in MI6 or Valentin getting shot in the leg.

but that doesn't stop them bringing Coltrane, or even Bean for that meatter, back in as different characters.

Granted - but for mere continuity reasons I think they would prefer to use actors who havent played another Bond character before. And its not as if there is a short supply of actors out there.

Forget the other films happened? Absurdity! After the tripe came I'm supposed to forget GE, AVTAK and all those other gems?... ay-ay-ay! 8-)

Well if Trevelyn can come back alive then surely Valentin can? B-)

But, they are best not brought back.

I agree. To me, Valentin was sort of a cutesy cartoon character who worked well in the Brosnan era, would have been great in the Moore era, but would not fit in with the more realistic & dramatic approach of the Craig era... and I do hope the series will not return to the campy humor and self-satire that it wallowed in for far too long.

Coltrane has been captured by Harry Potter, and is best left to him.

I would like to see more of Mathis (Giancarlo) and Leiter (Wright) they should have had more screen time in CR.

I too would like to see more of Leiter. I think he was really wasted in CR to such an extent that, if he hadn't been in the film, I don't think he would have been missed. I am very much hoping that he would actually be used in Bond 22.

Its been annouced that Giancarlo will return, and in casting Wright - i think they cast too famous an actor to not have him return.

True, it would be like bringing back Jaws or Sylvia Trench...

BTW, this thread now reminds me of the punishment Valentin would take in Goldeneye as he was leaving that red cargo box... A full 30 rounds into that man's chest from the ever-so-common KF7 Soviet (AK-47 [or is it the 74?]) right before some more guards came to shoot me. Good times.
