Well, Dan,
You can hardly consider GF's third place a dishonour. I would have eliminated it 3 or 4 rounds ago but I can live with it going out at this stage.
Anyway guys, we've managed to set up a classic final.
You can hardly consider GF's third place a dishonour.
True, but IMO GF was the greatest Bond film of all time, while OHMSS was only the sixth greatest Bond film of all time, so therefore I'm not overjoyed that GF was eliminated at number 3, and OHMSS is still in. I adore FRWL, and it's second on my list, so I won't mind at all if it wins. But I can't help but be a little annoyed that the greatest Bond film of all time (IMO) can't win this game. Seriously, though, I'm really loving this game so I take the results a little more seriously than perhaps I should.
BTW the actual standings are:
1) From Russia With Love [58]
2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service [52]
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

FRWL was CR before CR getting rid of the science fiction of DN and getting back to a more gritty realism. FRWL is a true spy story which pairs the argueably best director Terrance Young with the great Connery Bond.
FRWL is a ground breaking entry into the series bringing us for the first time the PTS, and Q and his gadgets. This story features some of the best villians of the series; Red Grant, Rosa Klebb, and Bonds arch enemy Blofeld. In addition FRWL features the beautiful Daniela Bianci as Tatiana Romanova.
OHMSS is a good movie that faithfully adapts another of Flemings best novels but it also brings us Bond crying and wearing a skirt.;)
All very true except the last word; where I come from it's called a kilt, and calling it anything else would be... um, (searches for a euphemism for suicidal)... er, ill-advised. )

Is the kilt still widely worn in Scotland?
Must be, pictured here is Barbel and Moonie (No pun intended)!
Looking good gents! )

Why? Did I miss something?
No, my son did! In calling me over to laugh at Tee Hee's joke he didn't notice that Tee Hee had taken his turn.
Oh, and the kilt isn't widely worn here. I've worn one exactly twice in nearly fifty years: once at my brother's wedding and again at my daughter's (and both those times were only because it was insisted upon).
1) From Russia With Love [59] - 1 = [58]
2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service [51] + 1 = [52]
This might be closer than the French presidential election. Both are great pictures; for me, however, OHMSS takes it.
There are none better then the two. :007)
In response to 00-Agent, much as I admire & respect FRWL, OHMSS, to me, is the best of all the Fleming novels, and this entry is a vivid adaption. On a personal nature, this movie also has an inherently 60s Danger Diabolik vibe. And I loves me my DD -{

A warning to those who are considering voting for OHMSS: Who would you rather win the game? The great Sean Connery or some Aussie?

Recently rewatched OHMSS with Peter Hunt's commentary and find I'm really liking it more than ever(probably thanks in no small part to CR)although I adore FRWL too.

Those voting for FRWL, would you rather see me win, a Chicagoan steadfast AVTAKist or some Aussie?
I kid of course Dan..

PKK, what a pleasant surprise! I am referring of course to /both/ your reemergence and your choice of vote. :007) That said I deeply sympathize with anyone whose conscience is smiting them for voting against FRWL-- it's not an easy thing to do. In fact this is the only possible scenario where I can fathom having any sort of ill-will to that excellent film at all.

That's the thing though-- this isn't about who is the best Bond actor; if such was the case you would be quite right that choosing Lazenby over Connery would be highly questionable. When I vote and rave about OHMSS I'm not on about Lazenby (although I do quite like him)-- I'm on about the superb score, the second-to-none direction, the cinematography, the uniqueness of the plot, the attention to character (of both Bond and Blofeld), the superb female lead, the fact that the formula adhered to in just about every other Bond film is here smashed to smithereens, the electrifying action sequences, the best sustained chase sequence in the entire series, the 60s feel of the picture, the obvious heart and soul that went into making it, and the picture-perfect snapshot of Ian Fleming's world (I can't attest to this last bit personally but enough people have told me this over the years to give me confidence that it's true), and so on.
