PKK, what a pleasant surprise! I am referring of course to /both/ your reemergence and your choice of vote. :007) That said I deeply sympathize with anyone whose conscience is smiting them for voting against FRWL-- it's not an easy thing to do. In fact this is the only possible scenario where I can fathom having any sort of ill-will to that excellent film at all.
Thanks. I actually adore both of these last 2 films very much. I'd be happy with either one of them winning but lately I've really been enjoying OHMSS. FRWL is a masterpiece but OHMSS does have an underdog appeal in this fight.

He's number 3 on my list, right after Connery and Craig (although I'm starting to think that maybe the latter two should be tied, which would technically put Lazenby in 2nd place).

I would say they're both masterpieces. OHMSS benefits from the fact that it had a much higher budget, a better score and (in my opinion) slightly better original source material. FRWL was actually my favorite for years-- it's only relatively lately, due to multiple repeated viewings, that OHMSS has claimed this title.
A warning to those who are considering voting for OHMSS: Who would you rather win the game? The great Sean Connery or some Aussie?
That's the thing though-- this isn't about who is the best Bond actor; if such was the case you would be quite right that choosing Lazenby over Connery would be highly questionable. When I vote and rave about OHMSS I'm not on about Lazenby (although I do quite like him)-- I'm on about the superb score, the second-to-none direction, the cinematography, the uniqueness of the plot, the attention to character (of both Bond and Blofeld), the superb female lead, the fact that the formula adhered to in just about every other Bond film is here smashed to smithereens, the electrifying action sequences, the best sustained chase sequence in the entire series, the 60s feel of the picture, the obvious heart and soul that went into making it, and the picture-perfect snapshot of Ian Fleming's world (I can't attest to this last bit personally but enough people have told me this over the years to give me confidence that it's true), and so on.
Question for you Lazenby: I've recently been rewatching this lately with the Peter Hunt and others behind the scenes commentary. After I watched it, I tried to watch some of FYEO and it really stood out to me how FYEO is in many ways a knockoff of OHMSS just as AVTAK is of GF and TSWLM is of YOLT(and TND off both YOLT and TSWLM). The PTS is obvious as well as the ski scenes. Also, in both films Bond gets romantically involved with a countess who ends up dead. He and the countess have a scene on the beach battling thugs and a scene at the casino. The countess' other most important man in her life is a warmhearted, "lovable" gangster who kidnaps Bond and has a scene with him in his office and who later teams up with Bond to attack the villain's place of business. Have you noticed these OHMSS/FYEO similarities before Lazenby?

There are indeed some points of commonality (which I hadn't noticed before-- with the obvious exception being the ski chases). That said I don't think it's quite true to say that FYEO is a knockoff in the same sense that the other films are. If you look at YOLT and TSWLM, or GF and AVTAK you find that the overall plots are very similar (in the first instance they both involve madmen hijacking American and Russian equipment and in the second they both involve madmen attempting to destroy something economically valuable to promote chaos) but with FYEO and OHMSS the general storylines are nothing alike, though they contain some similar elements.

True; and I certainly agree with you that OHMSS is a fantastic film. My point was simply that I think it would be terrible if a Connery film (DN/FRWL/GF/TB) failed to finish at number 1. I do agree that this isn't about the actors, but Connery is a major reason why I adore the first four films so much.
and it really stood out to me how FYEO is in many ways a knockoff of OHMSS just as AVTAK is of GF and TSWLM is of YOLT(and TND off both YOLT and TSWLM).
Alot of people say that. But to me, a knockoff is a film which copies another but doesn't establish its own identity. Hence, IMO, AVTAK was a knockoff (of GF) however I wouldn't describe TSWLM and FYEO as knockoffs, even though they had alot in common with earlier films.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
TSWLM and TND are both knockoffs of YOLT certainly, the only one of that "family" that I particularly like is TSWLM.
In the "GF knockoff" family of GF, AVTAK and TWINE, I pretty much like them all, though the order would be slightly altered (AVTAK, GF, TWINE).
And while FYEO may have borrowed elements (such as Tracy's grave and a few other things) it really isn't a complete knockoff, at least not as obvious as the aformentioned ones.

If OHMSS wins, I think it will be due quite a bit to it's underdog and almost cult like following. Which sometimes is attempted to be forced upon people. A bit like, unless your top film is OHMSS your not a true fan.

Now it's getting difficult for me. These are both great films, but I feel there are elements in each that lack a little. Gotta vote for Connery, though.
This will ultimately go the way of FRWL, I believe. Arguably, if you polled this crowd to list their single favorite Bond film, OHMSS might get the most votes. However, many people take a far dimmer view of the film. Many people would rank it near the bottom.
FRWL, by contrast, seems to appear on just about everyone's top 5. It's more "robust" in that way.

Nevermind that, did you vote today yet? What you say might be true, however if everyone who has been consistenly playing this game keeps playing (*ahem* jetset et al.) and if my calculations are correct, OHMSS just might be ablt to do it.
RE Lazenby880's alleged double vote-- it depends on where he is at the moment. If he's in the UK then yes, he did vote twice, however if he's in western North America then his first vote (7:57 GMT April 23rd) occurred at 11:57 Pacific time. I will wait to hear his side of the story before discounting his vote.
I think a lot of people are voting for FRWL because of the Connery Factor, one which OHMSS lacks.
Personally, I find OHMSS much more entertaining a film and actually like Lazenby, though FRWL is one of the greats definitely. Still, OHMSS, no contest.

Do discount my vote Lazenby; I was being my usual mindless self. I think I should stay out of the game from now on as I have illustrated a worrying lack of basic numeracy skills and short-term memory!

I did not realise! I came home from work (in my defence tired and stressed ) and forgot I had voted earlier on. Many apologies for that.

I hate to agree but it seems your a OHMSS supporter.
