In no particular order; I generally prefer vehicles which have a significant part in the film and come in a good diorama. I also especially like the damaged cars.
... + Aston Martin V8 coupe, both Ladas, LaSalle hearse, Acrostar, ...
Bottom 10:
No particular order; wrong looking, no figures, insignificance for Bond film, similarity to other issues are my criteria here.
• Audi 200
• Aston Martin V8 Volante
• Ford GT40
• both Rolls-Royce Silver Shadows, TWINE & LTK
• Largo's Thunderbird
• "Land Rover Lightweight"
• Jeep M606
• Chevrolet Corvette
• Ford Anglia
... + Ford Consul, London taxi, Ford Bronco, QOS Range Rover Sport, ...
114 and 115 have arrived. My first impressions looking at them in the boxes were good but once I have taken them out to look in detail I was less impressed.
The Cambridge is exactly the same casting as the Route Bleue model which has completely wrong profiles for the front of the front wings so it was never going to be better than just good - add on the yellow paint being wrong at back of bonnet too and the model is just not as good as it could have been.
Still compared to the FX4 Taxi it is wonderful. IXO's answer to re-using their 1965 casting from Taxis of the World was to let an apprentice file off the old style rear light and to print the new style rear lights too large in the wrong shape and in sludge colour. You can actually feel the depression where the base of the old rear light is in the casting. Clearly much too much of an effort to do the job properly by going to the trouble/cost of properly re-profiling the rear wing and making some nice slot in lights. To add insult to injury the AUSTIN badging at the rear is much too big and in a font which doesn't resemble the original badging in my memory. And whilst I am ranting they left the aerial from the 1965 car on when the Taxi in the film doesn't have one....
I will accept the faults on the Cambridge many wouldn't notice them and the paint job is nearly right but the FX4 shows the contempt Fabbri (Eaglemoss) hold the collector in if they think it is good enough to get IXO just to hack an old mould around badly. If I had know how poor the rear of this model was I would never have never bought it. X-(
Hi all...what with Skyfall in progress , I personally think the James Bond Car Collection could go past issue 130. Think about it, in Skyfall it will feature a black Jaguar XJ-L , black Range Rover Vogue , a Hearse , a grey Land Rover Defender LWB and a blue VW Beetle to name so far. Also does anyone know if their is going to be a model of the Ford Mondeo in Casino Royale. It seems strange its not featured yet after all this time. 8-)
Okay, so I got my own issues 114 and 115. Warts and all, the Cambridge is a model I like quite a bit. The front fenders are nowhere near as bad as Ixo's GAZ-22V Volga Station Wagon mould, which was certainly an acceptable car, if far fromj perfect. The overflow of yellow paint up front is made up for by the rest of the car, including impressive tampo-printing details on the front doors as well as a nicely-done interior.
The FX-4 is more than a bit of a let-down. Although I removed the antenna and filled the hole, plus I suppose got lucky and actually had pretty solidly-done tail lights on mine, you still have a few issues: there's the color of the lights as Maz said (although a bit of paint could probably correct this), plus the minimal interior detail that includes a rather disappointing transparent rear-view mirror. The "AUSTIN" lettering doesn't seem too far off in font, but it is off in size. The lights also seem to be off in shape, though am not sure how they look size-wise. One problem I did have that Maz did not was that there was no tampo-printing on the grille logo. This was quite the rush job and comes in as Ixo's poorest effort at a standard road car.
The good news is that our next issue will probably right the ship; Ixo's Lada Niva mould is a very good one and, provided they give it the correct oversized mirrors, front bumper, and fog lights, there's truthfully little room to go wrong.
So, you want my top ten? They're all from a car-centric's point of view, but here you go...
1) VAZ-2106 "Lada Zhiguli" St. Petersburg Militsia GAI Sedan. This is what an actual St. Petersburg GAI patrol car looked like from 1992-1994. While I could quibble about spacing issues on the license plates and the badging being wrong, both are VERY easy fixes for a truly excellent car.
2) 1964 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon. Aside from the hubcaps being slightly off and giving the dashboard an AM radio when it in reality had none, they got just about everything right about this car.
3) 1967 Cadillac/Miller-Meteor Traditional Landau Hearse. Although Ixo messed this one up by using the wrong brand of hearse, they replicated said hearse incredibly well.
4) 1938 La Salle/Miller Combination Coach Hearse. Perfect except it rides a bit too low.
5) ZIL-117 SWB Limousine. Does not match the movie version too well (wheels are different and has a radio antenna), but swap out the license plates and you have a near-perfect scale model of the real ZIL-117 as it appeared during the middle of its production run.
6) 1972 Ford Econoline Chateau Club Wagon with sliding door option. Again, cursed with the same problem the ZIL-117 is in that it's a year off and has an optional extra that didn't appear on the movie version (1972 with sliding door instead of 1971 with conventional door). However, the actual model as presented looks terrific and is a great representation of the 1972 Ford Econoline with sliding door option.
7) 1961 Sunbeam Alpine. Upon reflection, I believe this to have been the best car Universal Hobbies actually did. It outranks a number of the Ixo models and has one of the best Bond figures actually released.
8) 1975 AMC Matador Coupe. An oddball car done extremely well, again by Universal Hobbies. This one would be higher if the wheels weren't turned.
9) Back to Ixo for number 9, which is the 1973 Chevrolet Impala Custom Coupe. This car was a superb representation of the '73 Impala Custom Coupe (a.k.a. "The Last Impala With Balls"), with its only warts being the slits on the bumper not being turned inward enough...but quite frankly, that's REALLY nitpicking.
10) Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville. Although it lacks two rather important things (Auric Goldfinger and the Rolls-Royce badge), it was the last good vehicle moulded as new by Universal Hobbies, and boy, did they ever go out with a bang!
Top ten worst:
1) Audi 200 Quattro. This was just awful. It doesn't even seem to resemble a real car.
2) Ford GT40. Both pointless and terribly modeled. You can tell what they were going for, though, at least.
3) 1964 Ford Falcon Ranchero. The cab was SO badly done on this pickup that it looks positively cartoonish. The headlights are also positively dreadful.
4) Aston Martin V8 Volante. It would have been nice had they actually DONE a V8 Volante...
5) "Daimler Super V8". Because again, it doesn't really seem to have a prototype, though fortunately, it isn't quite the disaster the Audi 200 Quattro is.
6) 1963 Chevy Impala Convertible. I've talked with people who own this car and they say the proportions are downright awful. It didn't look quite right from the start, but until comparing it to photos of the real deal, I thought it was merely mediocre as opposed to terrible. Well...it's terrible.
7) Ford Anglia. I don't think this one needs an explanation.
8) The TWINE and LTK Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II's. The toy-like dragster wheels did these in but good. The ride height is also screwed up pretty badly, since even after replacing the horrid UH wheels with Solido wheels, it rode much too high.
9) Kawasaki Motorcycle and Side Car. Did we even want this?
10) Austin FX-4 Taxi. There are many models actually worse than this, but I'm including it on the list because Ixo, of all people, SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
Thanks for the review, Maz. Don't care about the Cambridge, but if you really don't like the taxi, I will happy to buy it from you - just PM me!
I think Maz's model taxi might be in a thousand broken pieces by now Jag! Although I never liked the prospect of an FX4 appearing in the JBCC, it does seem a shame that IXO appear to have c**ked it up for those who did want to see one included. I just hope they don't get any ideas about the current London taxi:
Very interesting to see everybody's top ten and bottom ten. Knowing how divided we can often be, there's actually quite some consensus of opinion so far i.e. the GT40 for instance. And I'll have to dig out my DAF Stag and take another look at it, I have to admit the one I have in my display cabinet is a white Matchbox Dinky version. I was a bit surprised at the high rating for the drop-head Range Rover (it isn't one I've bought yet) is it really that good?
I was a bit surprised at the high rating for the drop-head Range Rover (it isn't one I've bought yet) is it really that good?
I think the Range Rover convertible scores highly for a few reasons.
1) Memorable scene in the film
2) It's a really unusual car - a custom special, as there was no factory RR convertible
3) The 80s brown paint is nice and shiny, and the model is generally well finished
4) The model does a good job of looking like a real Range Rover
5) The Mk1 Range Rover is a much loved car, recognisable woldwide, but has not had that many good models made of it.
6) and the OP Range Rover convertible is one of the classic James Bond cars done by Corgi when the films were new. Unfortunately, there only was the Juniors size set, and I always wanted a larger scale (1/43 or 1/36) version.
Also does anyone know if their is going to be a model of the Ford Mondeo in Casino Royale. It seems strange its not featured yet after all this time. 8-)
The Casino Mondeo was included on our 'wants' list a while back. There's no mention of it in EMFabbri's extension schedule as we know it but for myself, I'd like to see it modelled. The movie car was a hand-built prototype but the differences between it and the production car are pretty cosmetic from what I can tell, so IXO could probably adapt it for their standard range. Biggest problem might be how they handle the sunroof on the movie version.
Maybe its time the 'wants' list was resurrected if EMFabbri are interested in carrying on this collection beyond 'Skyfall'.
Hi Everyone, I haven't posted for some time but I have been reading...only so much I figure I can get away with at work!lol
Still working on custom dioramas, does anyone know where I can get 1:43 scale figures? The photos (awhile back)from that guy who incorporates the figures are so impressive, does he make the figures?
Anyone know who makes the following models:
Mercury Cougar Convertible...no damage
1997 Porsche Turbo...dad
1970 Ford Custom...for Vegas Police DAF
1976 Camero...Never Say Never Again
1976 Jeep CJ...LTK
Hillman Minx...DN
73 Impala for Pepper's car...LALD
Triumph Herald...TB
Also open for new ideas
Thanks
Here are my top 10 so far. I don't know about you but this was not easy and I changed my mind many times! There are so many to choose from:
Aston Martin DB5...really would this collect even exist without this icon!?
Toyota 2000
Mercury Cougar
AMC Hornet...the most underrated stunt ever!!
Corvorado...the detail is amazing right down to the dart in the side view mirror
La Salle Hearse...first real villain vehicle
Q boat
Dragon Tank...ugly but cool
Mercedes Binz Ambulance...beautiful model
Kawasaki Bike...where is the BSA and the BMW R1200C?
!0 Worst: I have looked and studied my collection till it hurts, I can't do it! I love the collection too much, but I will give you a few to ponder:
Range Rovers and Land Rovers, just too many of them. One of each model is okay but the doubles make me crazy!
I personally would like to see the Mondeo replace the Morris Minor,if you are following this forum Fabbri. Its probably the model i'm looking forward to the least.

The 911 Turbo is a type 993 Turbo, and it's made by High Speed, Schuco and Minichamps. I have all three, and the High Speed is acceptable, and cheap. The Minichamps is good, but the Schuco is the best. It's out of production, but you can readily find them on eBay.
The Jeep is made by a company which I think is called White Box.

He seems to be a bit of a god when it comes to detailing JBCC models - absolutely incredible work.
I believe he does make the figures from scratch.
From recent experience, 1/43 figures aren't exactly common and can be a bit pricey when you do find them. There are model car layout 'crowd' standing type figures on eBay, or of course, for sitting figures you can use spare ones from JBCC models.
Back on the CR Mondeo, Minichamps make something very similar which could be adapted:
Lastly, here's the 'wants' list from last summer (jeez, how long ago does that seem?) if anybody wants to add to it, feel free to copy'n'paste:

It's a great list, but some of the cars have already been confirmed as being made and I've put an asterisk next to those cars; i.e., we'll almost certainly get our wish regarding those cars. Also, the Willys Jeep is not a WWII model but rather an M38, which was the one JUST after WWII that has a slightly different grille (this one was seen during the Korean War in the US Army quite a bit while the US Marine Corps was still using the old Willys MB). In the interests of Ixo getting it right, I corrected that.
EDIT: Also moved the TLD Standard (non-gadget) Aston Martin V8 Vantage or corrected Volante into the "Existing Moulds" category since a non-gadget Vantage can actually be Code 3'd from the U.H. gadget version (provided you're willing to break a few things...). Also moved the Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB from DAF in there because all you need to do is change the dashboard to left-hand drive, give it a new coat of paint, and it is the same car (please do NOT listen to what I just said, Fabbri/EM...).
Good comments and ammendments D110 - I hope 'the powers that be' are taking note and that we get to see some or most of these.
I'm wondering if people are feeling more comfortable with the (possible) prospect of the collection continuing well beyond 130 now? As a non-subscriber, there's a great comfort in knowing you can pick and choose as and when you please, but how do subscribers feel?
I guess if enough people stay loyal and/or new enthusiasts keep the customer numbers healthy, it could feasibly run all the way to Bond 24. It would be nice to hear from EMFabbri if they are considering including Skyfall models and maybe taking the JBCC to 160 as a next step perhaps.
Here's the updated list - I personally like the idea of the TB Zephyr but have to admit to being totally biased as a paid-up Ford fan
Ditto here, MCF, I'm still vaguely hoping for my 1-IMCDB-star TWINE Ford Escort Mk.6
How did the Zephyr sneak back into being listed as a 6, though? - I thought we'd agreed it was a 4 when we discussed it (well myself & D110 at least) about a year ago? The Zephyr Mk.III had distinctively different grill treatments for the 4 & the 6 and the movie car"s front can be seen in both scenes as being a Zephyr 4.
List ammended - The TB Zephyr was probably added as a '6' because of its listing in the IMCDB as being that model.

Oops ! My mistake - I know this had come up before, and I might even have pointed out the difference myself !
Asterisks for the announced models is an excellent idea. D110.
Just been on a lunchbreak, and the newsagent had the GAI Militsia Lada "Niva" on the shelf. It is a nice little model, it was hard to say no. There were three available, but two had misaligned rear lights and/or wipers, managed to pick a near-perfect one. The "Niva" badge is really tiny, not sure it will even bother me enough to remove it. This was the first car I bought from the latest extension. Cherry-picking is so much better than subscribing! Next target - Austin London Taxi!
It's been a while since I've last reporter here with something usefull ( ), But I have to announce that I to, am probably stopping the collection.
I've been a Bond-fan for basicly half of my young life, and looking at the models that are due for release in the Netherlands ( #105 and #106 in 3 weeks) I just stood in front of my pleasently crowded display cabinet, and came to the conclusion that it's not really "doing it" for me anymore . Being an 18-year old student, paying 74,- on a regular basis is around a 1,5 weeks' salary going straight to FABBRI.
Don't get me wrong, I think the models still are great, as is certainly the case with my freshly delivered Ford Bronco II wich I love more than I expected at first, but if it hadn't been in the collection I seriously doubt if I'd bought it. And that being the case for almost every single car from #100 up, I think it's just not worth it anymore. With the UH models, I would be rushing home to wait for the models to arrive, but since IXO took over and all we get is a figure-less car on a regular dirt/gravel path or a plain piece of road, i'm not really looking forward to it anymore.
Thinking of it, you can compare it to the Bond-gaming licence being away from EA and to Activision. They have the resources to make something absolutely brilliant, but it looks like they hardly put any effort in making the product stand out.
I know it's a personal thing, but any "second opinions" are more than welcome.
Hello to all fellow Bond fans.Although I've been reading your comments over the years with interest, mostly in agreement although occasionally not it is only now I've felt its time to add "my tuppenceworth" .I have to agree with james john smythe that its got to the stage that when the cardboard package arrives at the door there is no longer any excitement to open it.Its not that I think the models are poorly made , its just that the Bond connection is not strong enough anymore,at least not for me.I can see why some of the collectors who are also interested in diecast car collections will carry on as the price per unit is very reasonable for what you get.
Unfortunately for a pure Bond fan the difference between some of my favourite eariler models with figures ie Jaws's Sherpa van,the Toyota 2000GT,the Lotus Esprit's,Goldfingers Rolls Royce,Octopussy Tuktuk and the DB5's compared to the latest offerings is like night and day.Personally I'd rather have a model of the Spy Who Loved Me wet bike than a perfect speciman of an Austin FX4 taxi.I wish you all well on your collections but for myself, a Bond fan first and foremost its time call it a day,all be it with regret that the "car collection" wasn't more of an iconic Bond vehicle collection!
JJS and Whisper - (welcome to the forum, Whisper) I think there's a lot of people here who feel as you do, I too miss the more exciting dioramas plus figures we used to see. There's two points to remember though, the current extension was described by EMFabbri as 'filling gaps' in the collection which is what it appears to be doing, i.e. with many of the Eastern Bloc 'bad guy' cars. When you think about it, these are fundamentally important to the core theme of most Bond movies, as in the 'Cold War' between East and West. It's a bit like having loads of model cowboys without enough Indians to balance them out.
Second point is that for Bond fans seeking more relevant offerings the best is yet to come - Oddjob's Merc, the GF military Dodge 'laser' ambulance, the FRWL Chevy truck and maybe later on, 'Skyfall' models. They may turn up figureless and on gravel roads but I reckon they will still sit well with the earlier UH models when displayed. Oddjob's Merc should go well with the 'factory' scene DB5 (no 25) for example.
I'd say stick with it at least for a few more months, if you don't like a model when it comes through the door, sell it on eBay - what seems naff to you is often a gem to another collector and the newer releases often sell for a lot more than the retail price. Failing that, simply cherry pick. For myself, I can fully recommend it as a way of avoiding models you really don't like - although I seem to have ended up buying 90% or more of the collection anyway!

True, but When I subscribed to the collection I was expecting Cars that played a significant role in the movies. of course I'm aware of the fact that the longer it goes, the harder it gets to find "iconic" vehicles, but surely they can do better than a russian car of wich we just see the back end in a parking lot, viewed from a hotel room?

Again I agree that they still look good. But the point is, that they just don't seem like "Bond-esque" cars to me. I hardly doubt that in 20 years people will remember the taxi in wich an MI6-employee - so not even bond - drives for 8 seconds in Octopussy, whilst Goldfinger's Rolls is already an icon of the Bond films.

Now that's an idea, although there are quite some people who tend to sell their models, often at rediculous prices ( 25,- instead of 12,99 ). General conclusion is, that I'll let it go for at least this payment, see if it's just a "mood" i'm in
Put it this way, JJS, if you're only 18 you have maaaaaaaaaaany years ahead of you to sit back and decide at leisure what you want to do regarding the James Bond Car Collection - whether you want all of them, most of them or just some of them. B-)
In principal, though, I found that as a collector it's better to buy a model that tempts you (if it's not too expensive) and sell it after a while if you decide you don't like it. The alternative is not to buy it and then spend ages wondering if you should have done - especially if it ends up being rare and gains in value!
Comments
In no particular order; I generally prefer vehicles which have a significant part in the film and come in a good diorama. I also especially like the damaged cars.
• Lotus Esprit submarine
• Mercury Cougar
• Toyota 2000 GT
• Citroen 2CV
• AMC Hornet
• Leiter's Thunderbird
• Q Boat
• Cadillac hearse
• Rolls-Royce Phantom III
• Range Rover convertible
... + Aston Martin V8 coupe, both Ladas, LaSalle hearse, Acrostar, ...
Bottom 10:
No particular order; wrong looking, no figures, insignificance for Bond film, similarity to other issues are my criteria here.
• Audi 200
• Aston Martin V8 Volante
• Ford GT40
• both Rolls-Royce Silver Shadows, TWINE & LTK
• Largo's Thunderbird
• "Land Rover Lightweight"
• Jeep M606
• Chevrolet Corvette
• Ford Anglia
... + Ford Consul, London taxi, Ford Bronco, QOS Range Rover Sport, ...
The FX-4 is more than a bit of a let-down.
I think the Range Rover convertible scores highly for a few reasons.
1) Memorable scene in the film
2) It's a really unusual car - a custom special, as there was no factory RR convertible
3) The 80s brown paint is nice and shiny, and the model is generally well finished
4) The model does a good job of looking like a real Range Rover
5) The Mk1 Range Rover is a much loved car, recognisable woldwide, but has not had that many good models made of it.
The model is certainly worth buying.
Still working on custom dioramas, does anyone know where I can get 1:43 scale figures? The photos (awhile back)from that guy who incorporates the figures are so impressive, does he make the figures?
Anyone know who makes the following models:
Mercury Cougar Convertible...no damage
1997 Porsche Turbo...dad
1970 Ford Custom...for Vegas Police DAF
1976 Camero...Never Say Never Again
1976 Jeep CJ...LTK
Hillman Minx...DN
73 Impala for Pepper's car...LALD
Triumph Herald...TB
Also open for new ideas
Thanks
Here are my top 10 so far. I don't know about you but this was not easy and I changed my mind many times! There are so many to choose from:
Aston Martin DB5...really would this collect even exist without this icon!?
Toyota 2000
Mercury Cougar
AMC Hornet...the most underrated stunt ever!!
Corvorado...the detail is amazing right down to the dart in the side view mirror
La Salle Hearse...first real villain vehicle
Q boat
Dragon Tank...ugly but cool
Mercedes Binz Ambulance...beautiful model
Kawasaki Bike...where is the BSA and the BMW R1200C?
!0 Worst: I have looked and studied my collection till it hurts, I can't do it! I love the collection too much, but I will give you a few to ponder:
Range Rovers and Land Rovers, just too many of them. One of each model is okay but the doubles make me crazy!
Bondola...looks cheap and hate the scale change
The Bentley 4 1/4 scale issues
The Jeep is made by a company which I think is called White Box.
The Herald is made by Vanguards.
I think 'Dleyvraz' is the guy you're thinking of:
http://s615.photobucket.com/albums/tt239/dleyvraz/?start=all
He seems to be a bit of a god when it comes to detailing JBCC models - absolutely incredible work.

Feel free to add any 'wants'
Name the vehicle and I'll try and help!

Oops ! My mistake - I know this had come up before, and I might even have pointed out the difference myself !
Asterisks for the announced models is an excellent idea. D110.
General conclusion is, that I'll let it go for at least this payment, see if it's just a "mood" i'm in
In principal, though, I found that as a collector it's better to buy a model that tempts you (if it's not too expensive) and sell it after a while if you decide you don't like it. The alternative is not to buy it and then spend ages wondering if you should have done - especially if it ends up being rare and gains in value!
Just wondering where you bought the model Lada from - I'm looking for one like it in similar colour.
Thanks!
