Very nice, MCF! {[] Have been waiting to see this for a few weeks now - since you have been asking for a spare base of the Lada I expected that we will see a non-gadget Vantage sooner or later ... May I ask if I was the one who inspired you to make the swap with the convertible parts with my post a few months ago, or did you think of this mod before?
And any difficulties removing the gadget parts from the coupe body? Or just a simple swap? I have a coupe and a convertible ordered as back numbers which should appear soon. My Volante has in the meantime "ejected" a wheel rim and the photoetched spoke part from a wheel so this will be the one to take the parts from. But I have still not yet opened the blister and not checked how to open the car and remove the parts.
You guys have echoed what I said, in as much further discussion on the JBCC and code3s is there to be had, but is it enough? There's only a handful of us creating code3s and the results are only once in a blue moon. And there's not many others who have the time and patience to have a go themselves. So, in the absence of any more JBCC issues to keep the thread flowing, it was my thought to broaden out the thread to discuss new or existing Bond-related die cast from other manufacturers. For instance, I was thinking of posting pics of the new Skyfall helicopter once I receive it - but it isn't JBCC. Nor is Minichamps '87 Aston Martin V8 Vantage-Volante (which is being released in new colours) but might be the only correct version of this JBCC car that we will see.
I think the options are:
1) Keep the existing thread purely JBCC models plus code3s and risk long inactive periods and general interest dying away.
2) Keep the existing thread 'core' on JBCC plus code3s BUT allow other die-cast (future releases and existing releases by Corgi, Minichamps etc) and their real counterparts (anything Bond related that moves) to be discussed but expect complaints of being 'off topic' from people.
3) Open up a new thread after issue 135 based on suggestion 2 if changes are not permissable by the forum rules. Obviously a new thread could have a 'mission statement' that can't be argued with.
Any thoughts, anyone?
I think this thread should stay more or less at 1/43. Code 3's and other 1/43 James Bond cars and how they compare to the JBCC are still firmly on-topic IMO.
But after the JBCC has ended I think we should make a new thread like the "James Bond Diecast cars (All Brands)" on another forum. (That thread got 25 answers in one and a half years ... I think on a good day we could beat this. ) Could of course include vehicles other than cars, too. But maybe all scales thrown together will be somewhat confusing, and there are already threads about the Corgi, Autoart, Danbury etc. Bond cars. One ongoing thread has the advantage that it is more of a familiar meeting place than separate threads which usually end after a few posts.
[...] Minichamps '87 Aston Martin V8 Vantage-Volante (which is being released in new colours) but might be the only correct version of this JBCC car that we will see.
This is not a Vantage Volante, just a "base" Volante, so it does not have the extra driving lights in the grille; and the convertible is a LHD U.S. version with large sidemarker lights front and rear. (The coupe is a LHD Euro version with the small indicators at the front but at least comes in the correct Cumberland Grey.) Spark has a very nice red RHD PoW Vantage Volante (PoW is Prince of Wales specification, the Vantage engine in the standard body without the Vantage's Tupperware spoilers) but I don't see how these fragile pieces could be dismantled to be repainted grey.
I have talked to British Heritage Models who commissioned the GF DB5 and the OHMSS DBS from SMTS, to look into the possibility that SMTS could also make a factory-built TLD convertible from their Vantage Volante PoW kit. I hope that this will be realized next year.
2) Keep the existing thread 'core' on JBCC plus code3s BUT allow other die-cast (future releases and existing releases by Corgi, Minichamps etc) and their real counterparts (anything Bond related that moves) to be discussed but expect complaints of being 'off topic' from people.
This is my choice.
Just to make it clear, option 2 would be my choice as well. Does anybody reading this actually OBJECT to James Bond related die-cast models by other manufacturers than the JBCC being discussed/ photos posted in future?

Thank you! I was quite pleased with how it turned out - and I wondered if anybody might figure out why I was asking around for a spare Lada box & diorama B-)
It's actually made up from just the hardtop model, basically I was wondering just how easily and cheaply it could be modified with the least amount of bother, so yes, postings about it did get me thinking. It isn't quite finished yet, I have the artwork for the rear licence plate but my ****** printer packed up before I could print it out, so the plate is currently missing. Once I've got it sorted, I'll post some more photos plus a full description of how it was done, probably in a few days.
Interesting stuff about the Minichamps, Spark & SMTS Volantes, does this mean that the JBCC version even with its silly rear end is still the closest model to the movie car?

I would agree. By the way, do you think the Neo Audi will suffice in terms of replacing the "Audi 200 Quattro"?

This might be the way to go, and it could be a case of 'suck it and see' - bring in other 1.43 Bond related offerings once the JBCC is over and see how happy or unhappy people are with what is being discussed.
I also think an 'offshoot' thread where we might discuss other scales, planes, boats, trains, kits, figures etc etc is a good idea provided people can find it (!!!!) I dare say threads already exist on this kind of line on ajp007 but it's a hassle finding them in amongst 400 or so threads. If one was started I guess we would just have to mention on THIS thread that we've posted something on the SECONDARY thread (and include a link) until people get used to the idea.
I also think the honour of starting a secondary thread should go to whoever tends to post the highest number of times
SF DB5 and the Lincoln Convertible arrived; both OK ish. The Lincoln is about as good as the Impala from LALD, a bit toy like but acceptable. DB5 very familiar of course.
As for the collection, I have found a way of displaying almost all of it in one place, with the exception of the few models I think are too bad to display. So whilst I would continue to subscribe, if it ends with 134 or 135, I will be happy with my collection as it stands, and probably look at it repeatedly for years to come. I am sure there will be other Bond cars made here and there, EG by Minichamps, and I guess I will cherry pick those as and when they do appear.
By the way, do you think the Neo Audi will suffice in terms of replacing the "Audi 200 Quattro"?
It would be great to have details/pics of this Audi if it's a good replacement.
I have reviewed the Neo Audi on page 144. The points I criticized were not based on the two photos, as I have bought this model - and that's the answer: Yes, it will suffice (for me; but it's not a perfect match).
And regarding Neo: They have an Audi 200 (no. 43038) which could be of interest to some Bond collectors. I was particularly unhappy (back on page 79) with the TLD Audi as the model is more an Audi V8 than the Audi 200 Exclusiv. Neo have a model of the Audi 200 quattro 20V - in the same "Steingrau" (stone grey) as the 200 Exclusiv in TLD. That's a strange colour which changes between grey and a bronze tint in certain angles and lighting, and the model does exactly that (unlike the silver-grey of the Fabbri model). Pictures are from www.modelissimo.de:
Not a perfect match for the TLD Audi, as the 20V used the U.S. front bumper instead of the regular European 200 bumper to distinguish it from the less powerful versions. But otherwise the Neo model looks like a 200 and not like a V8 which is an improvement. The fender flares of the 20V were a little more prominent but in 1/43 they match the Exclusiv quite well. Flush door handles, side repeater lights and trunk lock are different from the TLD Audi as the 20V came after the 1988 facelift.
Wheels have to be changed to BBS spokes (but not from the Fabbri Audi as these are probably the worst wheels of the whole JBCC - a one-piece plastic wheel without separate tyre like a Matchbox Superfast or Corgi Whizzwheel), and the Neo 6-spoke wheels are perfect for a TLD Audi 200 Avant code 3 (using Minichamps' 100 Avant).
I have to say that I am not too impressed with the Neo's details. Sometimes less is more: The rear window frame and the chrome strips above the bumpers and side moulding are quite wobbly - a silver print would be much better than that. The rear window defroster wires are too obvious and look more like laser beams from some FYEO-inspired burglar protection system. Horrible: the rear emblems - crudely cut-out transparent film which seems to be one millimeter thick. I thought this was some sort of transport protection for the delicate chrome emblems but if you remove that film - gone is the delicate chrome emblem ;% uh, so what, the TLD Audi had a different text anyway ...
Interesting stuff about the Minichamps, Spark & SMTS Volantes, does this mean that the JBCC version even with its silly rear end is still the closest model to the movie car?
I am afraid so. A PoW Vantage Volante with the same colour, same interior colour, RHD, the same wheels (the Spark and SMTS have different radial spoke wheels with covered lug nuts but this could be changed if they make a TLD version), same number plate, Dalton driver figure.
That doesn't make the JBCC the better model but, well, it is closer to the film car than a red or silver one with the correct rear end, don't you think?
Maybe the Little Lead Soldiers version is closer - but it is even uglier. I had the opportunity to get a factory-built really cheap from a friend but after seeing it I did pass and don't regret it in this case. It is truly terrible. (Nice box though.)

Oh dear this is in my opinion a very poor model. Makes you appreciate how good the JBCC is and I am including the blunderbirds.
Have phoned once again regarding my missing issue 121 . It has been ordered 7 times now !

It sort of looks like it's been made out of sugar icing for a cake, doesn't it? RW is right though, it does have a very nice box.
If you end up with 7 copies of 121, let me know, I could be tempted to buy one..........
That Aston is one of the worst model cars I have ever seen. What a horror!
As for the Neo Audi, none of the Neo models I have have badging stuck on as crudely as that - it looks like the backing material of the metal logos has not been removed. I am guessing the photo is of a pre-production model.
Like the Neo so have managed to find one online. Happy Christmas to me so will be looking to replace the audi JBCC with the Neo Audi 200 :-)
Need help with my LALD Bus code 3. Can anybody help me find a suitable back ground . I am looking for it to fit the Gold finger laser truck box. So a link to suitable picture or even post a jpeg that i could copy and print off would be fantastic!

Ok folks its official , I am the bearer of bad news 134 is the final issue. I received an email this afternoon (see below) in reply to an email I sent at the beginning of last week when news was surfacing about 134 initially. However on the bright side unofficially it looks like a JBCC part two is on the cards and scheduled in a couple of years. This may see the launch again of the regulars with some of the missing cars as seen on our ever growing wish list. Oh well like the Db5, M , and in the words of Adele 'this is the end'
Ps this was from customer service at eaglemoss
Thank you for your email. I have passed your suggestions to the publishers. We have only been informed today that this collection finishes at 134. We were told 135. What I can see happening (please dont take this as gospel its just my thinkings) in a few years time and after a few new films they will probally make a few dozen more to add to your collection and as you are on the database you will be informed first.

Thanks for confirming that, DC007. As I said a few pages back, with the lead time required for a new model and no hint of a Land Rover of any type on its way as yet, the signs were there for a non-appearance of the final model.
On the subject of the future of this thread, I'm all for the 1/43 scale only option ... and isn't this thread a good candidate for a sticky thread by now??

Pretty much what most of us were expecting, really. I dare say the JBCC could be successfully re-launched at some point in the future with the clunkers taken out and some nice new models added. Given slightly different packaging it would no doubt attract a new bunch of followers with full wallets, especially after 1 or 2 more Bond movies have boosted interest.
Re the bus background, have you tried scanning in one of the existing JBCC backgrounds and printing it out at a larger size?
I still won't believe it till/if I see it with my own eyes, but if it does end I guess they finally upset just too many people after seven years. They messed up the ending. 134 is a real stupid number to end on when they had chance after chance to end properly at 100,110,120 or 130. To add to that we never did get the Moonraker shuttle. I know,I know it's not a car,but neither are 12 of the things they did do. Same goes for the LALD half a bus and the LTK Truck cab. Series 2 eh? I seem to remember saying something about that :v

I think it probably will become a sticky thread but IMHO there's a real danger of it also becoming a monument rather than a live discussion without further JBCC models. When it's gone quiet in the past, there was always the prospect of eventual new issues to re-start it. Without them I think flat periods could end up being long term flatlining - that's why I thought it might be an idea to open up the discussion possibilities to keep it running and keep people interested. 1.43 is a good core value, but I don't see why other scales shouldn't get an occasional mention when relevant. - For instance it never occurred to me that the Acrostar in full flight could be a JBCC code3 possibility until seeing RW's link to the small Kyosho range.

Yep your right ! Total blunder of a finish. Unfortunately the email I received from Eaglemoss says it like it is. I do believe this is the end at 134
Well if you folk want something to talk about I guess a run down of the very best models and the very worst of The JBCC is an idea? Plus photo's are always welcome. Doesn't have to be the new issue's. Take some snaps of the 132 others )

Like I've said and been told, Database Warehouse is typically last in line to get information.
There have been 133 issues released so far, with 3 further models supplied as gifts to early subscribers. To start with only 40 issues were scheduled for the collection, but due to popularity, and after numerous extensions the collection will finish with the next issue, number 134. This final issue will contain a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow from Moonraker.
133 Aston Martin DB5 (UH) Skyfall Bond's private car on a road in Scotland.
134 (next release) Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow (UH) Moonraker Bond is driven from the airport to the hotel in Rio.
- Land Rover Discovery 4 Skyfall Planned as issue 134 but cancelled. ;%
To me it looks like Eaglemoss are determined to get this series finished by end of 2012 and dropped the Landi since it would have pushed them into 2013. I did think that this might be because they had a new series to push and needed distribution capacity for that but we have yet to see any TV advertising for something like that and they traditionally launch new series over christmas/new year with TV and magazine inserts advertising it. Another thought is that they had to extend EON rights after end of year and without the intention of carrying on that was too expensive so they needed to end before end of 2012. Whatever, as has already been said what a poor way to end... A Bond Collection should go out with a bang and not with a recoloured badly made Rolls...
As to getting your money back I bet that will be just as slow as some of the model deliveries....

If a Defender, it would have pushed them into 2013. If a Discovery 4, they probably cancelled it from the outset. With what we know now, though, I actually hope it IS a Disco 4. That would likely mean Ixo made it and will put it in their Premium X Diecast series. That in turn would mean you could make a Code 3, albeit not easily unless they make a London Metro Police model.

I was informed they want to release Taxis of the World II (taxis are by Ixo) in the UK. The original series was a hit wherever it sold, they already have cars manufactured for the French market, it's no longer a test series, and it seems like these are selling relatively well despite being very much budget models, even for a partwork. I'd be curious if they try and pitch this one in the final issue. Some of the cars are a good value for the money (a majority of the French ones as well as the GAZ-3110 Volga, which is a modern Volga), while others seem a bit off (they re-did the Austin A55 Cambridge for Hong Kong, which is a bit off, and although the Ford Fordor is a nicely-done car, the livery is totally wrong...with that said, it's tough to get the plain ones, so you might want to buy one while they're cheap just for the sake of repainting).
Another thought is that they had to extend EON rights after end of year and without the intention of carrying on that was too expensive so they needed to end before end of 2012.
I do know this: Ixo wanted more money to go to 145; I would presume that means they had plans for a very large partwork that could have run well into 2013/could have gone to 150. Your theory is an interesting one; by this logic, which I find not only possible but probable, when Ixo left, Eaglemoss could have used it as an excuse NOT to restructure their contract with Universal Hobbies to start making new moulds or to alternately court Norev, Hongwell/Cararama, or another partwork manufacturer.
Whatever, as has already been said what a poor way to end... A Bond Collection should go out with a bang and not with a recoloured badly made Rolls...
I'd have either switched the Aston and the Rolls or simply ended with a TLD Aston Martin Vantage. After all, THAT car was actually quite well done. Ending on two of the earlier-moulded, more nicely-done UH issues would have been a plus.
As to getting your money back I bet that will be just as slow as some of the model deliveries....
If they give it back. Was it the original Taxis of the World (as in, the first release several years back) or Altaya French Cars that ended promising an extra car that turned out to be a holder for all the magazines?

In the UK, December 31 is a crucial time of any year for getting rid of staff, ending property agreements (storage, office rentals etc) and supply contracts, so I'd agree that Emoss had set their own 'end of 2012' deadline to meet.
As to getting your money back I bet that will be just as slow as some of the model deliveries....
Perhaps they'll just send taxis out to subscribers instead of repayments. A taxi partwork isn't something I'll be buying into unfortunately. Unless we see another movie/tv/US Classics/Ford partwork, it's back to buying Minichamps, Vanguards and movie-related stuff for me.

And any difficulties removing the gadget parts from the coupe body? Or just a simple swap? I have a coupe and a convertible ordered as back numbers which should appear soon. I have talked to British Heritage Models who commissioned the GF DB5 and the OHMSS DBS from SMTS, to look into the possibility that SMTS could also make a factory-built TLD convertible from their Vantage Volante PoW kit. I hope that this will be realized next year.
No objection from me

If one was started I guess we would just have to mention on THIS thread that we've posted something on the SECONDARY thread (and include a link) until people get used to the idea.
I also think the honour of starting a secondary thread should go to whoever tends to post the highest number of times
It would be great to have details/pics of this Audi if it's a good replacement.
Here it is: 7th one down. I have about 10 Neo models, and they are pretty good. None of them are Audis but this one also looks good.

I have reviewed the Neo Audi on page 144. The points I criticized were not based on the two photos, as I have bought this model - and that's the answer: Yes, it will suffice (for me; but it's not a perfect match).
Thanks very much for reposting!!!
As for the Neo Audi, none of the Neo models I have have badging stuck on as crudely as that - it looks like the backing material of the metal logos has not been removed. I am guessing the photo is of a pre-production model.
Need help with my LALD Bus code 3. Can anybody help me find a suitable back ground . I am looking for it to fit the Gold finger laser truck box. So a link to suitable picture or even post a jpeg that i could copy and print off would be fantastic!
Thanks
No probs will let you know
Ps this was from customer service at eaglemoss
Thank you for your email. I have passed your suggestions to the publishers. We have only been informed today that this collection finishes at 134. We were told 135. What I can see happening (please dont take this as gospel its just my thinkings) in a few years time and after a few new films they will probally make a few dozen more to add to your collection and as you are on the database you will be informed first.
Kind regards
I do believe this is the end at 134
I just hope they don't get the bright idea that some commemorative book or case for the magazines or something is worth 7.99 GBP...
- Land Rover Discovery 4 Skyfall Planned as issue 134 but cancelled. ;%
I'd have either switched the Aston and the Rolls or simply ended with a TLD Aston Martin Vantage. After all, THAT car was actually quite well done. Ending on two of the earlier-moulded, more nicely-done UH issues would have been a plus.
