Terrific Code 3 MovieCarFan!!! By the way, since I'm interested in basically taking apart my V8 Volante (stored on a back shelf...), do you think swapping out the bottoms of the cars is another possibility?
Thank you!! If you mean the plastic floorpan assembly, I don't know for sure but if you have both cars, it could be worth a try. You'd have to swap the rear bumper too, the Volante has the licence plate attached to it (which is incorrect) whereas the Coupe's is on the rear valance panel. It was interesting looking at both models close up in comparison - strange that the modelmakers went to the bother of correctly enlarging the bonnet bulge on the Volante plus giving it 'pre-ski' moulded sills, but didn't get the boot shape right or the rear valance, which is missing. Having said that, I came across this publicity shot of the movie Volante that to my eye, does appear to have more of an upward curve on the boot area than the pic of a production Volante below it.
Given that Aston Martins were/are hand-built, I wonder if the movie car was slightly different?
I really don't see a difference in the boot area but the photos illustrate very well the differences between the car specially made for Aston Martin chairman Victor Gauntlet which has a Vantage engine in the standard body, and a proper PoW Vantage Volante which has the same engine but slightly wider bodywork (more pronounced fender flares) and the side repeater lights located behind the front wheels. But I think the boot should be the same.
Interesting that UH changed the bonnet bulge. I thought they just cut off the roof. Too bad they didn't change the boot when messing with the mould.
I too was reluctant to buy a spare Volante but I thought that I could at least use the wheels and driving lights for the Cumberland Grey Minichamps V8 coupe. €14 for a set of photetched spoke wheels and spare parts is not too bad. Unfortunately Minichamps didn't/won't produce proper 007 versions but at least we've got a pre-painted kit from them. I guess I will also put the JBCC interior inside as the Minichamps is LHD, and I don't want to paint over all the nice details.
Uh, I had completely forgotten that the Allentown LaFrance is not a LaFrance but a Mack CF. ;% I knew there was a reason I bought the Boston version (Corgi 51901). But I'd say the Allentown still looks closer to the film; the Boston engine has a long closed cab and a modern lightbar.
I wasn't sure if I was simply seeing a more curved boot because of light or the camera angle, but if there is a difference, it's very subtle. I'd heard that the LD Volante was a prototype made for the movie (rather like the CR Mondeo) and was wondering if true, whether the boot line could have been subsequently flattened out a bit more for the final production design.
Out of interest, does anybody know what happened to the actual Volante used in the movie?
I've been sorting our loft out for the last two weeks and in between cleaning and sealing, I was packaging away what remains of the Bond die cast: I put all of the magazines into boxes, big boxes about 2.5' cube. They filled three of them and with another bag, so the remaining issues is a blessing for me! Running out of space!
It's amazing when something like this ends.
Anyone remember something called "Treasures of the Earth"? I collected the entire series and when it stopped I missed that fortnightly knock on the door by the news agents. I'm now going to miss seeing Bond through the door!

The batman collection is such a bad choice for a part work. What they should have done was called it cars of the movies. This could have incorporated the batmobiles and many other great cars and vehicles of the big screen. Even bond could have featured . I am sure the diehards on this could come up with a mega list of possible candidates.

As a Bullitt fan, the Mustang HAS to be as Steve McQueen drove it replete with altered badging and adjusted suspension. I've just seen too many companies screw this one up and make the stock 2+2 from the same model year. Also, which Opel Blitz? IIRC, the ones that got the most screen time were the ones in the intro, but I'm just curious. Fortunately, Victoria Models (Vitesse) did a great Ostfront 1/43 Opel Blitz a few years ago of which I have several. The DeLorean has been done almost as much as the Aston Martin in 1/43 scale, and unlike the Aston Martin, it's actually had associated dioramas by Vitesse. I will continue, though...

Unfortunately a partwork based on a wide selection of movies is highly unlikely to happen because of all the individual licencing costs. It would be a total nightmare.
A far more plausible version would be a TV related partwork maybe associated with one or two programme providers such as UK's ITV and its equivalent in the USA. You could have the 'usual suspects', such as Batman, Man From UNCLE, The Avengers, Knight Rider etc but also vehicles from modern favourites such as NCIS, CSI, Madmen, Desperate Housewives and so on. A wealth of opportunity there for a partwork IMHO.
Unfortunately a partwork like this is highly unlikely to happen because of all the individual licencing. It would be a total nightmare.
I know. But I can dream can't I?
On the other hand, IF a TV partwork were done, I don't imagine the rights to two of the cars I put up there (Kojak's '74 Buick and Columbo's Peugeot 403 Convertible) would be difficult to get at all.
This would be fantastic ! Eaglemoss if you want to make money how about employing
Dal110 for product knowledge, MCF for product detail and me Die007 for just pure indulgence!
As mentioned a little while back, here are a couple of detailed pics of the new Italeri die-cast Skyfall helicopter (click to enlarge, click again to super-enlarge) It's about 8" long, no figures but nicely detailed. Should sit well with a display of JBCC models.
BTW I got 131, the Bel Air police car today - a very, very nice model. I can thoroughly recommend it to fellow cherry pickers.
That just leaves the Skyfall DB5 for me and any back issues that might be more of a temptation now it's all finishing. As a cherry picker, it lessens the blow when there's still some to think about buying (I currently have about 110 out of the 134) so my sympathies go out to subscribers who will miss the regular deliveries. For those who have complained for so long about the series never ending (mostly on other forums) I hope you will now find peace in your lives
It's an interesting idea regarding partworks from ITV etc.
I'd actually prefer something from a particular studio.
If it ever happened, an endless list would ensue!
Remember the DC Comics Super Hero Collection?
I'm a comic art and horror fan, so it was right up my non-Bond street.
I was going to collect it, but I missed the first four issues through no fault of mine, and so I thought "forget it!".
Can't imagine ever missing the Bond magazines lol!
Best wishes,

Box arrived today thought replacement ford ranch wagon but no complete mess up another dodge wagon which I had never asked for and still latest parts I ordered not here. The word useless seems tailor made............
I will be pleased to see the JBCC ending soon.As i've mentioned before, this was my first partwork collection.I didn't realise what i was letting myself in for and in some respects wish i had never started.I didn't think car model collecting could be so enjoyable and frustrating at the same time.
But, i have been bitten by the collecting bug,and will continue to buy models of interest from Ebay,Bootsales, etc.I don't think i'm willing to get involved in a another partwork again, but you can Never say Never(again.)
By all means keep this forum going,i'm sure there plenty more mileage left whatever way it goes.
Happy Christmas & New Year to you all.
Winnie, like you this was my first partwork - just shows how GEF got the original formula right by combining OO7 with 1:43 scale diecast cars and superb dioramas ... one look and I was hooked.
I will also never go with a whole partwork again, but I will continue to cherrypick issues from ones that interest me.
So Issue 133 (the Skyfall DB5) should be in the UK retail stores this coming week, meaning the final issue should be available there on/around 9 January 2013 ... and then it's all over.
Given the lead times of deciding on a model and then preparing the tooling, finding a production slot, training the workforce, etc., it is obvious that EM has known for a while that there would only be 134 issues.
I am struggling to see the logic in their thinking for the final sequence, though - profit-seeking would surely have demanded bumping the DB5 up to Issue 132 (it was available on HK eBay before the Lincoln so that wouldn't have been a problem), which would've meant the model was available closer to the film's debut. I reckon EM management checked out of this hotel a while ago, so we can be grateful that things haven't gotten any sillier than they have already.
We are up to Issue 104 so far here in South Africa and I am hoping that the local distributor keeps the series going to the end - at the current rate of 1 issue a month that's another 30 months to go to get to where you guys in the UK will be on 9 January. I might just ante up the £240-odd to get the remaining issues from EM backorders (via a UK friend) instead of waiting that long!
Batman? Not interested.
MCF: nice conversion - shows what EM could have done if someone was still on the project.
Well one thing we all seem to agree on is we won't ever be getting caught up with one of these partworks again. I guess that's what happens when you over milk something. Anyway here's my top ten best and worst. You may well have done this before but in my book you can't really do it till you have a final score to choose from. After seven years we finally have that so here goes.

Well, one thing's for sure, I have really enjoyed collecting this JBCC and keeping track of this beguiling forum thread over the past how many years. My bank account has just been credited with £7.99 by 'GEFabbri', so I do have to concur with pjft, that's the end now:
it must be the end just had £7.99 put on my c card
paul
... what a pitiful way to conclude it though - but I do agree with the sage observations of the various regular contributors to this thread, yes, it is a commercial decision. They are going out with a pathetic whimper.
I thought the #133 Skyfall DB5 was a really badly-missed opportunity for a crackingly-good large diorama ... and on reflection should have been the model they used as the last in the series.
So, season's greetings to everyone across the globe, from sunny Cheshire (well, it IS today!) and my appreciation to all those who have been contributing to this marathon thread for so long - have a merry Christmas, happy New Year.
I'd also like to thank my local Royal Mail delivery office for not breaking any boxes - that's more amazing than anything - no non-deliveries, no omissions, duplications, annihilations.
Lastly, breaking with tradition and the anonymity of these threads, I'm including my photo, yes, this is me:

Cheers,

Personally, I think it should have ended with a battered Defender and Audi twinset from Skyfall with 50 Years of Bond packaging. Never mind, it's been a cracking series all told.
BTW, Rhinoman, I don't want to alarm you but it seems that there is a Russian lady spy behind you taking video footage of you. Watch out for sharp umbrellas!! B-)
My personal top 20 (‘Wow’ factor from the point of view of overall model, diorama and visual impact - pretty obvious choices but there you go):
02 Die Another Day Aston Martin Vanquish
03 Spy Who Loved Me Lotus Esprit Sub
06 Die Another Day Jag XKR
07 You Only Live Twice Toyota 2000 GT
08 For Your Eyes Only Lotus Esprit (skis)
12 OHMSS Aston Martin DBS
13 Diamonds Mustang Mach 1
14 Daylights Aston Martin Vantage
21 OHMSS Mercury Cougar
25 Goldfinger Aston Martin DB5
33 Dr No Chevy Bel Air

58 Quantum Aston Martin DBS
63 Quantum Alfa
73 Octopussy Alfa
78 OHMSS Merc (skis)
97 Goldfinger Rolls
99 Octopussy Range Rover Drophead
123 From Russia Plymouth Savoy
127 Goldfinger Dodge Ambulance
My personal worst top 12 (mostly in terms of “Why on earth did they do this one when they could have done something SO MUCH better??”):
22 Corvorado LALD (Unbelievably ugly, there were better pimpmobiles in the movie)
46 (Mahindra not Willys) Jeep OP (SO should have been a Goldfinger PROPER Willys Jeep)
49 Daimler CR (a lost opportunity for making ‘M’s Ride’ plus figures without Hotel Spendide on the side)
51 Range Rover CR (the almost identical QOS version was better IMHO)
53 Renault Taxi (number 53 should have been the half version and a more interesting free gift created, like the Kenworth)
81 Beach Buggy FYEO (this just seemed like pure infill)
95 Kawasaki SWLM (if they were going to do just one bike it should have been the TND Beemer with Bond and Wai Lin figures to go with the great TND Range Rover model)
102 Bondola MR (WTF! - pardon my French)
111 Thunderbird TB (Blunderbird, say no more)
114 London Taxi OP (so over-modelled it’s not true, and it wasn’t even a good one)
128 Morris Minor TB (for many reasons I hate the real car and any models of it with a vengeance!!)
130 Milk Float TLD (see 102!)
MCF: nice conversion - shows what EM could have done if someone was still on the project.
Thank you! Having pulled the Vantage model apart, it was painfully obvious just how easily UH could have made a non-gadget version. The sills were the ONLY real issue and they could even have fixed that with simple plastic inserts if changing the mould was any kind of problem.
For those interested, I've been working on a 59 Chevy Impala Convertible as seen in TLD, complete with figures of Bond and Felix's two girls, which hopefully will be completed soon. (It got interrupted by the Vantage) Will post pics as soon as it's done.
Happy Christmas, everyone - hope it's a good'un. {[]

I can hardly wait to see it! Just make sure you leave the front part of the roof intact (or add one if you're working with a convertible as a base). Not a factory convertible.
Well after all the 'is it' 'isn't it' questions and answers regarding the finish of the partwork we finally know for sure with the simple repayment of £7.99 to bank accounts when we had previously been debited £15.98. Money is king so we know absolutely 134 will be the final issue. I'm not sure where i fit as either a Bondcentric or carcentric. I suppose I'm really the former although since my childhood (Corgi, Dinky, Matchbox, Spot-on etc) I have always has a weakness for model cars and do own a number now but I came to this series because of Bond and I for one have enjoyed the whole series. I marvel at the knowledge of the guys on this thread of both Bond and model cars in general. I would have liked to see 'proper' dioramas and the use of figures much more especially as Bond is all about action and not static but as many of the comments before have noted that would have meant a higher cost of each model but something I think most of us would have agreed to. This also the first partwork I have signed up to and unless really tempted will probably be my last. Talk about agony and ecstasy!!! Anyway although my comments have been few and far between I have always kept a watch on the thread and I'm sure lots of other people have as well even though not contributing and I hope it continues in whatever vein is decided upon. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I'm sure we will all be catching up on a few Bond movies over the holiday. Cheers
Ok here is the Audi 200 as we should have got. Number plates still need to
be changed. This is the Neo version correct colour etc etc. I owned an Audi and this looks amazing. The UH Audi is more like a rarer Audi 90
Comments
Interesting that UH changed the bonnet bulge. I thought they just cut off the roof. Too bad they didn't change the boot when messing with the mould.
I too was reluctant to buy a spare Volante but I thought that I could at least use the wheels and driving lights for the Cumberland Grey Minichamps V8 coupe. €14 for a set of photetched spoke wheels and spare parts is not too bad. Unfortunately Minichamps didn't/won't produce proper 007 versions but at least we've got a pre-painted kit from them. -Ford Zodiac Mk. III from The Ipcress File (This was Palmer's car and was quite banged up.)
-1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible from Rain Man (Consider that there couldn't have been a plot without this car.)
-1974 Buick Century 455 from all but I think the first season of Kojak (Kojak's car)
Just off the top of my head.
.........Don't forget 'Christine'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not 100% accurate but as near as dammit, especially when reduced right down to 8mm long.
I know. But I can dream can't I?
On the other hand, IF a TV partwork were done, I don't imagine the rights to two of the cars I put up there (Kojak's '74 Buick and Columbo's Peugeot 403 Convertible) would be difficult to get at all.
Thanks for the license plates, btw!
Herbie !
This would be fantastic ! Eaglemoss if you want to make money how about employing
Dal110 for product knowledge, MCF for product detail and me Die007 for just pure indulgence!
Not 1.43!!!! )
It's actually 1.100 scale and is about the size of a Corgi Aviation or Airfix 1.72 fighter plane. I'm still looking for a 1.100 DB5 to go with it!

Cheers,
Rhinoman B-)
Personally, I think it should have ended with a battered Defender and Audi twinset from Skyfall with 50 Years of Bond packaging. Never mind, it's been a cracking series all told.
BTW, Rhinoman, I don't want to alarm you but it seems that there is a Russian lady spy behind you taking video footage of you. Watch out for sharp umbrellas!! B-)

EDIT: And I misspelled "especially". Oops! ;%
Ok here is the Audi 200 as we should have got. Number plates still need to
be changed. This is the Neo version correct colour etc etc. I owned an Audi and this looks amazing. The UH Audi is more like a rarer Audi 90
