    Another two Code 3's

First off a Lada 1500 before being horizontally cut in two by Bonds Laser in 'TLD'. I found a photo from the Living Daylights and Tony has sized into a very nice background. The car is the Lada 1500 from JBCC with a new base plate . The car is sitting higher at the back due to the original model set up. I was very disappointed when i took the original apart to find the front wheels were only half wheels, i needed to source some similar wheels from another eastern block vehicle of similar size. I think it looks good

    image.jpg

    image.jpg

Next is one of all time favourite saloon cars. The Opel Senator from Tomorrow Never Dies. This was rather self indulgent as the car was a bit more expensive than i would of liked for a Code 3 but like my AUDI 200 Code 3 . NEO was the only answer to find this car . Its 1 of 300 so i have not stuck the figures in or changed plates. Again Tony has come up with a great back ground for this stunning model . Hope you like this and indeed the pre cut in two Lada 1500

    cheers Diecast007

    Diecast007,

Nice job! You may also want to modify the siren, however. I actually bought this one, although I did later enhance it, but the guy totally changed the siren using only original parts and scrap plastic and it looks a million times better...

Note the antenna and small piece of plastic behind the siren.
By the way, are you gonna eat that?

Great models once again! The possibilities that Eaglemoss dipped out on are growing every day. I was wondering if someone would 're-build' the Lada - I did take one apart myself and was kind of surprised by the half wheels at the front.

Two more fantastic additions from you, Diecast. You are a production line of top notch Code 3`s, my friend. Well done. Oh, for future backgrounds, i have downloaded the Eurostyle font and will add the car titles onto a black strip under each new backing. I have just posted a revised Goldfinger DB5 background with the text, so if anyone prints it out can they please tell me if the strip or font sizes need to be altered in any way. With each new addition to the Code 3 line I hope to improve to match or at least compliment the high standards of the cars you are creating. Your attention to detail is something that was sadly lacking in many of the official JBCC models. Keep it up. I look forward to seeing every new Code 3............Still dont know where you guys are suddenly finding the extra room though :)

I really like the raised back on the Lada - the real cars often looked like that, so it only adds to the realism.

Good idea or not? I bought some number labels and stuck them in the top right corner of each case,
so I can see at a glance which one is which number.
I also have 9 duplicate models, bought for their non-cracked cases as replacements.
These I give a blue square sticker so they're not confused with the originals.

I have six plastic crates holding 24 models each and smaller containers for transporting a few occasionally to show other people.

The only exception being the early VAZ-2101 and VAZ-2102 (original Lada 1200's), which rode much lower than any other Lada Zhiguli I can think of. But if you're going for the "used police car" look, oversized tires (front or rear) to sort of boost it off the ground does add a touch of realism since the suspensions were not very good. That's why Ixo has their cars riding relatively high; to simulate that effect. I only mention the early Lada 1200's because they also feature in TLD and I think, with enough effort, you could probably make one.

Impressive Code 3s - maybe someone can do the Ferrari F355 from Die Another Day - here is a suitable starting point : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Minichamps-Ferrari-F355-in-Yellow-No-430-074020-1-43-Boxed-/111011136790?pt=UK_ToysGames_DiecastVehicles_DiecastVehicles_JN&hash=item19d8c78516

Hi all. I`ve just added a new section in my Photobucket simply called Code 3s. I have dropped about 18 of the backgrounds in there but had distorted them into a sort of 3D display. It will give you a chance to see what it might look like in a box before the expence of printing. Its just a little easier than looking at a flat image. Hope they help set the cogs turning :)

I decided not to go entirely the same way as the JBCC version so i ,ahem, "removed" Strangways. This now follows the "Three Blind Mice" as they make their get away. The other request is on its way.

They were essentially the same car but the Cresta was a bit more upmarket (two-tone paint, leather upholstery etc). Vauxhall were influenced by US styling and marketing at the time, so like US cars they gave different types of the same car different names rather than 'L', 'GL' or 'GLX' etc.

The one you've been asked to do for Dr. No is a Vauxhall Velox so don't panic! :)

Well here it is, whatever its called. I did try to located it closer to the jetty but that was just making harder work for myself so i thought,`velox to it` and painted the actual car out of the boat yard. Enjoy :)

Just an idea here. I have been adding a matching texture to the mock up displays purely as a "serving suggestion but i could, if you like, add them as part of future work. you would at least have the option to cut and stick them to flat bases or make your own. Thoughts please.
  • mazmaz Posts: 227MI6 Agent
Tony thanks 4 backdrop - I was being sloppy it is a velox not a crests. Moviecarfan description of relationship between them is spot on. The base idea would work on some but not others because of texture. Now to find a Hillman for that brilliant background!

Sorry for keeping you waiting! I had MASSIVE problem with the DB5 conversion :-/ I bought, as you can see at the pictures, minichamps version, but it arrived to me in totally wet box :-( Almost every single decal was destroyed or detatched. I had to recreate license plates by myself and put the decals back at their places. All in all, it was worth trying. Once more - Tony, thank you v.much for creating perfect diorama. I am going to convert Daimler to the bigger box, and soon I should leave some photos of it!

lj1989, that is a sweet model and you have clearly done a great job saving it from that water damage. I gotta get me a few Minichamps Bond cars. You can see where the extra expence goes. I`m so pleased when i see the finished car in a display that actually works perspectively. I never know for sure until you send in the photos :) Looking forward to more entries in the Code 3 collection.
Oh and here is a thought, If the official collection was still going, we would be talking about 4 new cars, possibly 3. I just dropped the 20th Code 3 background into the ever growing library!!
Bond cars dont come cheap but just look at the mileage you can get out of them!!! :p

I decided to do the jetty scene after all. Gives you an extra display option on this one.

    Well done Tony , great backgrounds once again. The Casino Royale Aston looks brilliant also -{

Ok a pair of 'Dr No' releases for code 3.

The Hillman Minx and Vauxhall Velox. Both these were sitting in my display cabinet amongst the many vanguards I have collected over the years. Another two missed opportunities for eaglemoss. The Velox certainly featured as a vehicle albeit the minx played more of a background role blink and you'll miss it so to speak. Again I have not change the number plates on these as that is not too important for me. The Minx used the base from the blunder Anglia. The Velox is actually on a snow base that i have painted with the weathering kit. Its turned out pretty well and blends nicely with the background Tony produced. Enjoy! :)

Excellent work Diecast - Corgi are letting Atlas use lots of moulds for various series so definitely a missed opportunity for Fabbri/Eaglemoss expecially since all they would have had to do is get different number plates printed on them to make them unique to the JBCC. Yes Minx was blink and miss it but then quite a few other cars made in official collection fall into that category as well.

Two wonderful models, Diecast. Cant believe you just happend to have them laying around, how flash are you?! I have just dropped in a different viewpoint for the Velox when it is parked by the jetty. You may want to give that one a try, it will at least explain why Dent is not in the car! Again, great work, and two fine additions to your collection. I do love the old cars from the early Bond films. Keep `em coming {[]

They look great, don't they? I always loved both of these cars, they had style in bucket loads. So good to see them (as with the JBCC DN Anglia too) looking pristine in exotic settings rather than rusting away in gloomy 70s British backstreets, which is pretty much how I remember them. Once again, well done D007 and Tony B-)

Can anybody give us info on the 'weathering kit'?

I bought the weathering kit on eBay it's made by Tamiya . I cost £7.99 and comes with a little brush . I think there is four shade options. Cheers
