I was re-casing No. 19 -the MGB and wondered if a duplicate of the Roger Moore figure could be used in the Bondola ?
or is it too big ?

The Bondola is one I don't have so I can't judge the scale in relation to figures - did anybody out there work out exactly what scale it is?

way too small to hold a Bond figure. I tried with one from a spare Hispano Suiza and i would have had to cut off his legs below the knee or move the wheel forward, but it still would have looked wrong.

Ignore the backing card - it's temporary until I find something better.

I put all other projects on ice to do this for you. Hope you dont give it a frosty reception. ( told you i would pun it up on the Roger Moore ones!) ;)

I’ve had a couple of PMs about the recent pair of Aston Martin Vantage Code3s I created, so here’s some further info. Apologies if it looks like a repeat posting.

    Vantage_Feb13_A.jpg

On the open road version of the Vantage, the method for filling in the sills and removing the rocket exhaust was described in my post on page 223:

    http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/28313/james-bond-car-collection-questions-and-praise/page/223/

There are a few things I would add to this. Be VERY careful with the door mirrors – they are far more fragile than they look and are very easy to accidentally knock off as I found out to my cost. The one I knocked off was easy to glue back on once I found it, but the problem was trying to find the little b****r on a cluttered floor when I hadn’t even realised it had gone! It took an hour to figure out where it had disappeared to.
Also, although I put a tyre from another model on the bare rim of the first model I did, it’s actually far easier buying a second Vantage as a ‘donor’ car for the missing complete wheel and tyre.
Regarding the sills, I used resin car filler with hardener to fill them, but I’m sure other types of filler would work just as well, and maybe give more working time before they set hard.
Finally, the only other thing I did which was previously unmentioned was to detail the exhaust ends with silver paint instead of the standard model’s incorrect black finish.

Here’s the background I used with a ‘patch’ supplied by Tony featuring the Lada instead of the Vantage. To minimise fuss, the short side of this can be cut out and placed over the corresponding side of the existing Lada police car background card:

    V05b.jpg

Click to enlarge, then click again.

Regarding the ‘crashed’ Vantage, here is a photo of the car in place and then removed from the base:

    Vantage_02_008a.jpg

    Vantage_02_005a.jpg

There were two reasons for making it removable: 1) I thought if building filler up around the car went badly wrong, I’d mess up the car and have to buy another one, so I protected it with clingfilm to stop the filler bonding to it. 2) The base was much easier to finish sculpting, sand, paint and add figures without the car in situ.

The front wheels were removed to make it 'sink' into the snow bank as per the movie scene and the single good wheel was used on the open road version.

The dusting of snow on the Vantage was created by masking off parts of the car first then using a ‘stipple’ brush (an ordinary spare modelling paintbrush cut straight across to make it look like a soft toothbrush) I used white acrylic with the brush being almost dry and only leaving flecks of paint – practising on a piece of dark card first helps to get it right and avoid messy blobs of paint.

The figures are hard plastic, not vinyl like most of the JBCC figures. Entering ‘1.50 figures’ or ‘O gauge figures’ in eBay’s search box usually finds a good selection of them.

    KGr_Hq_MOKis_E0q_G_Czp_BN_8_DWj_Nqg_12.jpg

They appear to be bigger than the JBCC figures, but if the JBCC 1.43 scale is to be believed, 1.50 scale figures should be just about right. The figure of Bond I used was a ‘workman’ with a woolly hat on which I had to cut away, and the Kara figure was a generic ‘female’ figure. This one wore a tight fitting shirt, so I had to pad it out using ordinary Polyfilla to make it look more like a winter jacket. Polyfilla stuck to the plastic very well and was easy to shape when wet, and then sculpt with a craft knife and sandpaper once it was dry.
Once painted, they seemed pretty easy to glue in place using superglue, the only thing I had to do was to check several times that they were standing correctly before finally gluing them to the base.

Tony did a few variants of the background for me, this is the one I finally used:

Just as an aside to the above post, here is the background i made using the landscape from the actual movie scene rather than the one in the Eaglemoss collection. Great work MCF. Keep them coming :)

I believe the pic you showed was Preiser Figuren 1/45 scale. The JBCC's figures are actually about 1/50 scale for the most part, despite the cars being 1/43.
By the way, are you gonna eat that?

AFAIR from way back on this thread the Bondola was calculated to be 1/72 scale - it really is the odd one out in the collection.

He could use the figure (albeit with different arms and minus the sunglasses) from the DAD 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner. I measured that figure and it's smaller than 1/64 scale!

Most of the JBCC figures do seem slightly too small for the cars so 1.50 figures in 1.43 cars sounds likely. The figures available on eBay are sort of 'around' the right size for the cars but can be a bit hit and miss since they vary in height and build a bit even within the same sets. I bought a few different multi-packs of architectural 'O gauge/1.50' figures and made a choice by putting the figure up to the car while comparing to photos (in this case) of Dalton standing by the Vantage, then choosing a shorter female figure. What is available on eBay UK seems to change from one week to the next so I don't know if there are particular makes to look out for or if it's simply 'pot luck'. Last time I looked there were even emergency service figures which I guess could be used pretty much as-is on some Code3s.

Is OO gauge the same size as 1.72? Would an OO gauge seated figure do the job?

OO Gauge is 1/76 scale. I'd say it's close enough.

    Hello Tony

Actually I do have a request if it is possible. Q's workshop from Diamonds are Forever .

I have a spare DBS which I would like to use. I've got a new base for it and some bits and pieces to add to the diorama, but I could do with a decent background.

I'm not sure how possible it would be as my recollection of the scene is pretty much Q in the foreground and the Aston at the back.

I've found this picture as a starter for ten....

Thank you all for the nice words regarding the french series.
There's always a certain something that comes with completing a collection that's genuinely difficult to find that you've been looking for for multiple years. For me, it's always been a combination of "finally!" as well as just a tiny bit of "now why didn't they do just one more?" :D

By the way, regarding the paint being the same in real life but different on the camera, I'm fairly certain I can explain that. It has nothing to do with photographic effects. It's just different paints formulated to look the same.
I still want a DB5 with a complete blue cardboard base, and I still have not one of the magazines. It's not complete just yet! 8-) :D

Regarding the different colours: When I wrote "I have only noticed this on the pictures, not the cars" this was not worded properly. I meant that only when I selected the pictures I saw the difference that I had not noticed before. The difference is visible on the cars although the pictures do exaggerate the contrast. When I compared the cars (they are the same castings, there is no difference in the bonnet vents like I thought before) before taking the pictures, I didn't notice the difference, that's what I meant to say.

Just a final thought about the French test series: The JBCC wasn't that successful in France, the only country (I think) to end prematurely after issue 84. (84 is still not too bad for a partwork.)

But what if just a few hundred issues less had been sold in the towns of Lens and Nancy? Would there have been no further partwork at all, or would they have tried again in the U.K.? Would we have a JBCC thread of one or two pages, "Has anyone ever seen these model cars from France before?" - "No surprise that test wasn't successful. The dioramas are nice but the cars have been done to death from Corgi to Minichamps!" :D

MCF, that Vantage in the snow is amazing, and this diorama is even more impressive after reading which work went into it. Thank you for explaining what you did to the base and the figures and where the figures come from. Great job, and looking forward to your next code 3! {[]

Well, first off, I understand. It's a bit like taking an early Neo Volga (before they changed the headlights) and comparing it with a later model..."wow, I'd no idea these were so different!" Yet, you don't really notice it on its own. Secondly, I admire your dedication to get the magazines a better condition DB5!

It interesting to speculate about prototypes and "one-offs". I'm wondering if perhaps an Issue 85 CR Land Rover Defender produced with a French magazine. Beyond that, I have difficulty believing the French pushed ahead, but that one issue seems highly possible.

I'm also wondering if any prototypes or mockups of the Issue 135 Land Rover Discovery 4 were made. Ixo was making its models months in advance and as we all saw, they did release the car in their Ixo Classic series. Considering how Ixo typically discards its prototypes (you can see them once in a blue moon on eBay China; models that never reach production...as I believe I mentioned, I have the mockup for the Ist Models Trabant P601A "Stoffhund" with different colored canvas top and NVA roundels on the side...I MISSED the UAZ-452V Soviet Army variant intended for the SSSR AvtoLegendy partwork that was never released and am still kicking myself for it), it's very possible that this may one day surface.
(84 is still not too bad for a partwork.)

Speaking of which, I confirmed and can say with 100% certainty that Kultowe Auta PRL-u was extended to 180 models. I think that's at least close to a record.
By the way, are you gonna eat that?

Hi, new poster here, but have been always reading this part of the forum as i love the JBCC. big praise to everyone making the code 3's - love them!!!!

what am wanting to know is how do i get in contact with eaglemoss about the most recent back issue ordering. I found a link on here a couple of months ago to order back issues at retail prices. I ordered the issue no 105 Ford Country Squire model in late January.

I am not a subscriber to the collection, only buy what i want, but obviously at 7.99 - the model is cheaper through the website. Problem is, i read on here a while back that they were NOT taking orders from random people(well from other members experience and phone calls). I sent an email to eaglemoss@dbfactory.co.uk last week and have yet to here back about where my order is. I dont know which telephone number to call either which would directly tell me in person what has happened.

I have checked my bank statement and it has come up with 7.99 taken out to Eaglemoss London on 04/02/13. So it appears they have taken my money, but ive yet to get anything. any suggestions please guys???????

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum. Your best bet with the Eaglemoss crowd is to give them a phone call on 0844 472 5226 and ask them where your order is (they might answer as 'Endeavour Partwork' but just tell them you're calling about James Bond Cars).
Unfortunately I suspect they will tell you the Country Squire is out of stock and offer you your money back.
If that's the case, and once you've stopped cursing Eaglemoss for wasting your time, I think you can only look for the model on eBay. Just be careful, a lot of them have broken roof racks and mis-aligned 'wood effect' water slide transfers on the sides - make sure the seller will take returns if you find there are faults.

hi mate, as i wrote this, i literally got this response half an hour later from them (typical :)) )

I'm afraid that this issue has not been sent out to you as it is currently out of stock. We have processed your order and taken payment, and we will despatch it out to you as soon as possible.

I sent another email asking when they will get more stock - but will wait for another reply!!!!

thanks for the phone number, ill take note for next week , and keep my eyes peeled for a cheap Ford CS - thanks for telling me about the error, ill double check it too if bought!

I'm glad someone else noticed. They're FINALLY starting to drop with the UH issues (probably more to do with production figures than quality...UH did produce more than Ixo, and I know that for a fact), which gives a lot of latecomers to the partwork a chance at filling in their earlier collections. It hasn't totally dropped on Ixo, especially a few issues like the QoS Ford Bronco II (I really need another one...I have something non-Bond related but VERY fun planned for it and am afraid the Premium X won't do because of the P/E trim and I need to wear the trim for this) and Land Rover Convertible, and most certainly not at all on either the '60 Ford Ranch Wagon or the Wales & Edwards Rangemaster, but demand for things like the Country Squire (thank you Premium X!) and the two hearses in the US is finally starting to go down.

Also, here's one for you: as you know, I collect East Bloc 1/43. Tons of it. Well, I happened to glance at the bottom of CCC074, Ist Models Cars & Co Exclusive Lada Niva 1600 Volkspolizei (Suhl). Instead of what I was expecting...namely "LADA NIVA P.R.C." with the Ist Models badge, the bottom actually says "Lada Niva The World is Not Enough" on the driver's side of the chassis and "1/43 Made in China" on the other. I guess that's where the extra chassis went!!! I have a Verejna Bezpecnost Lada Niva 1600 that was released around the same time due in a few days and if you're interested, I can tell you about that one, as well.
By the way, are you gonna eat that?
