There was a list of "Code 3s so far" compiled a few months ago - maybe 10 to 20 pages back now (?). Since then we have seen MovieCarFan's SF Defender, Diecast007's Vanish and others from DDenis and other contributors.

I've built no Code 3s myself as yet - I'm still collecting the series & will be getting the Lada Niva next week ( {[] this was the one I requested way back when we were still discussing possible extensions beyond Issue 110 ...).

When I do get to doing some Code 3s in the future, though, my personal boundary will be what would have been Fabbri/Eaglemoss's boundary in the mainstream JBCC, namely cars from only the EON series of films ... so cars from NSNA, CR(1967) or the novels would not be included.

I doubt consensus could be found on what would be a definitive sequence of cars following Issue 134. Realistically, some models shown so far will probably remain once-offs with no-one besides the poster making them - which leads me to suggest, Tony, that perhaps you should make covers only on request, and somehow allow the user to assign whatever Issue Number they like to the bullethole in the top corner. That way each person can build up their own post-134 collection, in whatever sequence they choose.

    Thoughts?
    Hi all

I`ve been doing some back tracking this morning, trying to find the first example of a Code 3 to be posted on this forum. Its got me thinking about what actually constitutes a Code 3 model. In my opinion it needs to be either a car not officially issued as part of the JBCC or one that has been radically altered and set into a new diorama. In either case I feel that a true Code 3 has to be presented in a display box and in a style that sits comfortably alongside the official collection. For example...

this is most definitely a Code 3
    SLRDDC_08.jpg

    And so is this
    DAD_Vanish_3a.jpg

But is this a Code 3 also?
    DSC_7081.jpg

Or, brilliant as it is, without being set into a diorama that echoes the official run of cars, is this still a Code 3?
    bond_pics1_172.jpg

The reason I ask is not out of some form of Code 3 snobbery, in spite of the many backgrounds I have produced for others, I still only own one Code 3 of my own and I made that five years ago! I only ask because to document them all will be a mammoth task, and if I am to produce an original cover for in excess of a hundred cars then I want to be sure that I`m not doing more work than I have to. In short, I ask out of pure laziness!

That said, I have traced the Code 3s back as far as page 182 with this offering from Never Say Never Again produced by SWJ.
    SDC12243.jpg

Now I don't know if SWJ still even reads this forum, so who would actually benefit from my making a cover that features a car that only one person owns a model of, and might well have left the forum months ago?

What I could do instead is this. I could trawl through the pages from 182 to now and collect pictures of ever Code 3 printed and list them with the names of those who made them. Along side that I could continue to make fake covers to order for those wishing to display their efforts in the style I have suggested in this picture
    007.jpg

After all, such covers are only really of interest to the people who`s car it features and only they may want to print one off as a keep sake. Of course the other reason to not produce covers for each and every Code 3 is that it would only really work if the person who`s model it featured was willing to "flesh out" the "issue" with details of how the car and display was created. His reasons for choosing that particular model and so on. In short, creating an online magazine. In that case, I would be more than happy to provide the covers and any other work needed to make it look as good as it can. But I`m talking about over a hundred back issues now. Besides, would every single Code 3er be willing to put in the time and effort to do this? And haven't we already covered the hows and whys in detail already?

I do feel that a definitive list of all the Code 3s has to be documented and posted in the best way we can. Not only to show that there was a true passion to see this collection become as definitive as it could be. But most importantly as a way of honouring the brilliant work of every Code 3er who looked at what Eaglemoss had done and thought to themselves `I could do better`, and then proved it.

P.S. OMG!!! did I say page 182?? I`ve since traced my own Code 3 back to page 37 and there are examples earlier than that. This is gonna be a long, long night. NURSE! more Red Bull!! :#

Im with you on your thoughts here, the code 3 has to be an interpretation of how the car may of looked if produced originally by JBCC.

As the original collection concluded at 134 , I think the code 3 issue number should be 135 onwards. The issue number should be allocated as each model has been produced in date order. This would also give us a release date using this thread as a formal record of release. That way it becomes a definitive list of an unofficial official collection. It will be a great record of all our wonderful models.

Each Code 3 should be recorded with the following information

ISSUE Number , MODEL NAME, MOVIE TITLE, DIECAST MANUFACTURER, MODEL MAKER, DATE OF RELEASE

Maybe Tony on completion of the list you could put it together as one off document in keeping with the backgrounds and fake covers as great keep sake that we could print off or as you are doing the hard work sell to us for a small fee

Now to tackle some of my overdue code 3's !!!

Thanks Tony, this size is perfect have printed it off though the shuttle is quite big and obscures the detail, can I ask if at all possible you swap the image of earth with the space station, this may give the impression of the shuttle heading back to earth. Also it may just be my printer but can the stars be more defined as they are not showing up when printed.

    Thanks in advance

    Best wishes

    Well this is interesting.
After bringing forward the release of the Batman & Robin batmobile and The Bat from The Dark Knight Rises in an effort to re-boost flagging interest in their batmobile collection. It appears Eaglemoss have decided to jump ship and are bringing out plan B.

Hi DD , Great list and what a list too. I think this must have taken ages. I hope you don't mind but I am going to put together the list again in release order and assign an issue number to each model. That way I think we can all keep track of what has been produced and when and by who. I will use your list as a guide and hopefully with this and the detail I have suggested we add will give us the most comprehensive information. Obvious exceptions are models that have been allocated issue numbers already so I will find away of including them .

    Good work

OK I`ll do it. But I need to know the name of the first person to produce a Code 3 model, what page its on and what the model is. This needs to be a starting point on which we all agree and I`ll number that one as 135 and work on through. I have revised my cover and it will feature under the bullet hole issue number, the page and the date on which the Code 3 was posted. The name of the maker will appear at the bottom as usual. To indicate the difference between movie cars and those from the books, I will place illustrated versions of Bond from various serials as well as drawings or paintings of the actors that played bond in the movie versions of those books. Photos of the actors will only appear on covers featuring the movie cars.

This is a sample cover to show what I mean, the dates and info are made up for now.
    135_SAMPLE.jpg
Notice that the double window above the car name echoes the style of the official run after they did away with showing a single photo of the model. I`ll flit between both styles depending on the photos I find. But for now. I`m off to the coast for a couple of days and will be back online and getting started on this from Sunday....Needless to say, many hands make light work and a clear and comprehensive list including page numbers would be a massive time saver for when I finally plough into this task. As for the existing issues? Whats a few rewrites after this little lot?

Please don't make any more Code 3s till I come back!!! :)

    Cheers all

    Tony

    Well this is interesting.
After bringing forward the release of the Batman & Robin batmobile and The Bat from The Dark Knight Rises in an effort to re-boost flagging interest in their batmobile collection. It appears Eaglemoss have decided to jump ship and are bringing out plan B.

STAR TREK The official starship collection
    http://www.startrek-starships.com/eng/index.asp

I`m a little disappointed that when I saw the add on TV that they didn't have the tag line...

    " Finally.....The ship hits the fans !!" ;)

In a way it has - Diamond Select Toys will be furious - someone has stolen their thunder by effectively promising to produce all of Starfleet! Albet in a smaller scale. Some of the initial 30 ships listed are designs Trek fans (myself included) would kill to get their hands on!

By the by FAB 1 will be my first code 4. But budget means it may be a while before I get her done. Have a nice break Tony!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Just got back after 2 weeks away and life on this thread seems to have gotten very complicated all of a sudden! :s

Re the Code3 lists and numbering I have a couple of suggestions:

    1) Set it up on a separate webpage on this forum (if our lords and masters will agree to it) where it can be managed remotely by one or two people but easily accessed/referenced by all readers. That way it won't keep on appearing on this thread repeatedly like the 'wish list' with minor alterations, and therefore become overly complicated or difficult to find.

    2) I think adding a thumbnail photo plus page ref for each model would make a very impressive visual reference catalogue. That way, where people have made their own versions of the same model, each one can be added under the same model number. As an example, we've seen the extra-damaged QOS DBS done several times by different people, so it could be model number '150' (or whatever) with thumbnails and page references of each person's version of it shown under the listing. Similarly, we've seen the QOS Alfa Carabinieri twice now, and I'm currently doing one too, so three thumbnail pics of it plus page refs could potentially be posted under the same Code3 model number.

As to what defines a 'Code3' I wouldn't like to say. If we said 'It has to look like it's part of the JBCC i.e. model vehicle, diorama and background all fitting in a box' then we couldn't include amazing pieces of artistry like Arronax's Skyfall helicopter and burned out DB5 or the big OHMSS raceway scene posted many moons ago. Personally, I think the Code3s simply have to be 'in the spirit' of the JBCC.

The idea of creating a generalised series of movie and TV themed cars in the style of the JBCC is something I've been thinking about for quite a while now (no surprise, as a movie car fan) and would love to see take shape as a similar thread to this one, but I think it would have to run off a different forum. There's certainly an awful lot of very nice 1.43 movie/TV models out there with lousy or non-existent dioramas just begging for the JBCC treatment B-)

P.S. OMG!!! did I say page 182?? I`ve since traced my own Code 3 back to page 37 and there are examples earlier than that. This is gonna be a long, long night. NURSE! more Red Bull!! :#

The earliest Code3 I managed to find by way of a posted photo or a 'still live' link was this:

    NELLIE_p14_345.jpg

Page 14, post 345, (it looks like the DAD Vanquish base and the first DB5 Connery figure) so maybe 'Little Nellie' is actually issue 135.

I agree with this idea, I like the idea of having this list grow on an easy to access and understandable sub-section. A gallery dedicated to Code 3s with each entry can be posted along with the name of the maker, the date and page where it originally appeared. This would come together far easier and quicker than making 100+ covers for none existent mags. I`m sure I can find a few ways to present the models in ways that will compliment the feel of the mags. I also have been all the way back and agree that Little Nellie could well be the first Code 3. Fitting really that it took a fan to give her a home.

If everyone else will sign off on this idea then I would be happy to help create and run what might be called The Code 3 Gallery. I assume though that this thread will continue on this page and that we will still post ideas and comments here as always.

MCFan - There have been the one off pages for Bond Locations and Bond Watches. Do mean something like that? If so it could potentially work very well.

Tony - Sounds good to me! I also agree the Code 4's should have their own page. We could ask M if it would be OK to keep it in the collecting Thread? (The first post would explain its connection to the official JBCC thread and the Code 3s) Alternatively it could be parted in the off topic chat I suppose, though that would be a shame.
I also agree this thread should still be the main thread to discuss the creation tips and ideas for all the models. After all it all started here!

Incidentally, I now have the Q Boat! B-) Two questions stem from that...

    1) Do Eaglemoss provide spare cases? I really don't want to buy unopened models for spares if I can avoid it.
    2) Is there a lightweight way to simulate breaking water without turning the case into a paperweight?
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I would envisage a 'Code3 Gallery' (good title, Tony) as being something like the Wiki list that was often quoted and referred to - not part of our thread but an independent page we could view whenever we wanted to, either by bookmarking it or posting a link to it in our comments. Ideally I think the Gallery should be another AJB007 forum thread that only a 'supervisor' or 'selected supervisors' are able to add new information to, in order to prevent it descending into chaos. I presume the idea would have to be put forward to Sir Miles to see if it's possible and whether the management will agree to it - it's still Bond related after all.

Otherwise, I suppose it would have to be a webpage on another site?

In all other respects, I would guess this thread would carry on as usual, and if and when any new Code3s are posted, they would be added to the Code3 Gallery.

That was how I imagined it might work, an independent page with it's own 'manager' if you will.

    1) Not the last time I asked them, but you could try phoning them to see if that's changed (!) otherwise it's down to eBay, markets, toyfairs or car show stalls.

    2) Try messing around with clingfilm or different types of transparent acetate sheets. These can often be found in different colours or enhanced with spray 'clear colour' acrylic paints

OK, maybe the page layout could look something like this? This is just a rough example.
    EXAMPLE_PAGE.jpg
It could feature the odd cover here and there and longer, more detailed passages on models of special interest, plus comments posted at the time. I also think that it should have a core team who could communicate via PMs to agree the look and content of each page before it is posted. That way it will maintain a smooth and coherent appearance as a whole. I feel that MCF, DieCast, DD and TB2 would be naturals to head up the team that maintains this new sister page. Your ideas so far and commitment to the Code 3 idea will ensure that The Code 3 Gallery gets off on the right track and stays there. I offer my services too, but as usual, only in so far as my Photoshop skills permit me!

    Hi All,
I like your proposal to have one other forum for the code 4 but with an easy link to this forum... because I think like MCF, I like both JB and vehicles in movies.
Very good start Tony with the vehicle in order of appearance, with date and page.
Diecast007 is working on a list for the JB code 3.
I also think we will need a list for the code 4 and the ‘new’ forum….
    Cheers.

In that case, can I ask a cheeky question? Could Fab 1 be the first Code 4? I say cheeky cause its going to take a bit of time to get the car itself (TSM are not cheap) but I know which JBCC base I want to use and have been working on the backdrop. Once completed, I am hoping it can act as a bridge between the Code 3s and 4s. ;%

Tony - more than happy to contribute as part of a yay or nay team, I am not very good at web layout though!

Nice page design Tony, it looks very impressive {[]

If a page format like that isn't possible, I think an alternative could be another thread like this one, with just one or two people able to post on it. Each post could feature a separate Code3, that way it can be added to (with extra info, variants of the same model, mag covers etc) or edited very easily. Again I think it's down to what the website owners will agree to.

Your page does raise an important issue, though. Should slightly different versions of the same model be given different numbers? The two Little Nellie models look essentially the same to me so I would have thought could be posted under the same number - as two fans' different takes on that particular issue. Equally, I created two versions of the 'non-gadget' LD Vantage (Bratislava and Lada road chase) which could be shown under the same number.

That is an impressive looking train, I haven't seen that before. I can imagine that being a much sought after piece in years to come, and highly valuable. As for whether it is a Code 3? I`m not sure where we stand on movie tie-ins. I would display it behind glass and take very good care of the packaging. Thank you for showing us.

I am slowly working my way through the thread post by post. It's a long task but getting there.

I have set a few rules regarding what is or isn't a code 3 so hopefully all agree and I have sorted out the issue numbers also for duplicate models.

Code 3 model should be a car or vehicle presented as to look like a model produced as part of the original JBCC. The model should have a box , background and of course vehicle.

I have numbered duplicate models ie models presented with the same background albeit with some differences as per individual code 3 creator.

    For example

Issue 150 car , bond movie, scene in factory , thread page 266, post 6634, posted by A Post, model created by A N Other,

If model is posted again later the number will be 150b and so on.

I am busy again for remainder of week but hope to have list completed very soon.

    Hope that is ok
