It was interesting that Sam Mendes was a little bit cryptic about the DB10, like it could possibly have gadgets (hopefully more interesting than a defibrillator!) but maybe they haven't decided yet. Personally I'm hoping we might see the DB10 in action in the Austrian Alps, that could be spectacular. No doubt EON are already in discussion with model manufacturers as to who gets to produce the 1.43 'Spectre' Aston but my money's on Minichamps, with maybe Corgi/Hornby/Scalextric getting the licence for a 1.36 version.
For anyone interested, Corgi/Hornby have just announced the re-release of the original 1.43 Bond Goldfinger DB5 in silver and gold in 2015, both in a great looking retro-style box featuring the original artwork:

Yes, thanks for posting! It's interesting to see their warning about them not being suitable for kids under 14! I would think that they're an important segment of the market, what are they going to do, throw these diecasts at each other?
I see that the DB5 might have revolving license plates, though that's not indicated in the list of features. However if they're including that feature, why leave off the tire slashers? I'm glad they're finally releasing a proper, pre-conversion Lotus, but I wish they would have released it in 1:36 scale.

Thank you MCF for posting this here before Ambassador had opened a dedicated thread for these models. The two Astons are not really exciting but at least Hornby is doing more for the 50th anniversary of the 007-Corgi partnership than for James Bond's 50th anniversary 2012 where we only saw the single SF DB5 but no anniversary models or sets.
The models seem to be very similar to the silver 1995 reissue 96655 and the 1997 gold-painted model 04201, except that, as superado already noted, somewhere along the way they have lost their tyre-slashers but acquired some tampo-printed Aston Martin logos. Interesting is the price as noted by Ambassador: £19.99 - that's the exact price of the 1995 model - so no price increase in the last 20 years ... I like the retro box, it reminds me of the RM Auctions set from 2010 which contained a similar but larger box for the 1:36 model.
Maybe Hornby will add some sets and other models during 2015?

I was disappointed when Corgi showed a red Esprit S1 ("The First Production Esprit") but now that we get a white one I am happy. I haven't seen the red one yet but hope that the wheels will be better than the terrible Minichamps version with its smaller (!) rear wheels. (Autoart made a better S1 Esprit but unfortunately not in white.) I can live with the different number plates. It seems that Corgi only got a licence for "toy cars" but not "model cars" as otherwise we would see this Esprit as a Bond car for sure.
Regarding the DB10, the 1:18 version was already announced last week by Mattel as a Hot Wheels Elite. No 1:43 in sight yet - I don't think this would come from Minichamps as suggested but also from Hot Wheels. I am quite sure that we will also see a better resin 1:43 DB10 from Spark who have good relations to Aston Martin (although this would not be in a 007-branded box).

Thanks for the historical background, RW - although I have tracked & databased (is there such a word?) the Corgi Classics 1/43 & Vanguards 1/43 ranges, I have not had the same enthusiasm for the Film & TV ranges. I have half-heartedly tried to buy 96655 on several occasions on low-starting auctions but never found it closing at a point I was willing to pay, so this 50th Anniversary model will be filling that gap.
The 'Monaco White' Esprit is representing the final S1 made, BNG290T, so about two years younger than "our" PPW306R.
The 'Signal Red' one (LFU972R) is supposed to be available this week so pictures of the actual model should soon be online. It will appear as part of Corgi's 'The Lotus Collection', but the white one (and a black&gold one) for 2015 will be released in the Vanguards range ... leaving one with the impression that The Lotus Collection has now run its course.
And on the topic of licensing, although not directly Bond-related, I read this week that Maisto/Bburago has now signed for the exclusive Ferrari licensing agreement that Mattel let go earlier. I have been seeing Bburago Ferraris (in 1/43) in the toy section of the supermarkets for a couple of years now, so that Mattel exclusive wasn't all that exclusive anyway!

There have only been four reissues of the 1:43 model (the aforementioned 96655 and 04201, plus the gold-plated 96656 and 04202), and all four have rotating number plates. Maybe you have seen one of the 1977-78 made last 270's with Whizzwheels; they don't have the rotating numberplates.
However, the rotating number plate (! - only the front one?) is hidden in the Corgi text:

Yes, the JPS Esprit looks very nice - all the external differences of this S2 to the S1 Esprit are present at least in the computer picture: Speedline wheels, wrap-around front spoiler, mirrors, the "Daniel Craig ears" behind the side windows, and even a corner of the large Rover SD1 taillight is peeking out at the rear. All very nicely done, and I think this will be the very first Lotus Esprit S2 available in 1:43. Gives hope for an S3 and Turbo Esprits in the future.
Not sure if the folks at Corgi are thinking that far as making versions identical to film cars. They have done it before, but the newly announced Oyster Gold Ford Capri Ghia was a disappointment - they could have made the car in just this colour as a "Professionals" 3.0 S but wasted the opportunity? 8-)

FACT, I would suggest that you look for a mint unboxed original 270 instead of one of the reissues. You are more a model than a toy collector, and the originals are much better models (but better toys, too) than the reissues.
Just look at the wheel arches, especially the rear which is much closer to the real DB5 on the 270 than the larger, circular arches of the reissues. Also the spoked wheels are open on the original but only relief on the reissues. The quality of the original cars was amazing considering the time they were made and the original price.
BTW Spark is showing a 1:43 DB5 in their 2015 catalogue - the photo is showing FMP 7B, that's the GF road car and TB gadget car.
RW - I think you are correct on two counts. Since you mentioned it, I believe it was the 'Whizzwheels' 1.43 version that I saw that had the fixed plate, but also your point about the scale of the new model/toy. Here's a photo of the 2015 release with the earlier 96655 to compare:
At first glance they look identical but if you look closely there are subtle differences in the moulding proportions and lines. I'm beginning to wonder if Corgi have replicated the very first gold JB DB5 model (1.50 scale?), which was smaller than the later revised silver versions. That would make it something quite special, not just a casual re-release of the 1.43.

Wow! You should work for Corgi my friend, that packaging looks great - very appealing and well thought out. I think the company tends to forget that most collectors have more than one example of this model and just how important beautifully presented packaging is when trying to sell re-issues. But at least they usually make more of an effort than Minichamps when it comes to movie and TV model packaging.

That would be a shame, I quite liked the idea of a re-issue of the very first smaller version. The release date is Jan 1st so we will all know for certain what size it is very shortly -{
Sorry to disappoint you MCF, but I can guarantee that the new release will not be a 261 reissue. The 261 had no separate parts for grille and bumpers, they were all cast into the body. (But the wheel arches are the closest to the original.)
Here is a comparison of the new one with a (silver repainted) 261, a 270 and a 96655. I am now not so sure it will be 1:43. The proportions of the wheels/wheel arches and windows are different from the 1995 version, maybe this is a new casting in a different scale? The headlights look closer to the 1:36 but the pillars of the larger model are finer.
But as you say, we will know in a few days.

I created my concept box using scans from an original 261 box, and adjusted in photoshop to get the final size I wanted.
The RM auctions box was completely re-orignated using the 261 box for reference only.
The company that produced and printed the RM Auctions box had strict instructions to destroy any unwanted boxes and printed sheets along with the master print files upon completion of the job.

The estimated January 2015 delivery date has disappeared too, so maybe delayed shipping from the factory is another problem. I ordered one of each colour but there's been no sign of them turning up on the doorstep yet.

The Hot Wheels Elite DB5's were never scheduled for summer 2014. I have only seen planned release dates for January 2015 and I commented that it would be a pity to miss the 50th anniversary of GF. But I guess that we won't feel any different when buying the cars in 2015.
Hot Wheels has in the meantime announced another, cheaper 1:18 version of the GF DB5 - not an "Elite" but a "Heritage" model with just opening doors. This and the DB10 are scheduled for June 2016.

I see the two DB5s are now showing an intended delivery date of 14/02/2015.
I checked some other models earlier announced as January releases and they have all had their due dates removed, but items for February and later still display dates.
I believe the production ratio is 5 silver DB5s to 1 gold DB5 and they will be sold to retailers only in these half-dozen batches.

I had to page back as far as page 272 of this thread to find again the info that Rainier Wolfcastle had posted regarding these two models and I see at that time (Feb 2014) that the intended release date was January 2015. I also checked the Diecast Legends e-shop and both still have the status of "pre-order". So there's a chance we will see these two before the two Corgi's.

The site on which I have a pre-order set-up is showing end of this month (January) but wouldn't be surprised if it slips.
As a big fan of Top Gear with a tendency to agree with most of James May's thoughts on cars etc, the article made me smile. When I was a kid I received the first Corgi JB DB5 one Christmas and it was amazing as JM says. Like most of my childhood mates, I hadn't seen Goldfinger at the time but we'd all seen teaser clips on TV of this sportscar with blazing machine guns, which made the new Corgi toy a must-have, just like kids wanting the latest hi tech stuff now. Up until that point, the best that toy cars had to offer were opening doors, bonnet, boot etc, perhaps with the odd figure included, so to suddenly see a toy car fitted with all the JB weaponry was staggering at the time. It then spawned all the rest with gadgets - Batmobile, Fab One, U.N.C.L.E. etc and set about raising the expectations of kids from new toy releases tenfold.
It's interesting that the scale of the original release (1:46) is mentioned - I'm still hoping that the new re-releases will also be in the original slightly smaller scale.
EDIT: Just noticed the 100mm measurement in the listing - that's the size of the later 1:43 scale model. Oh well.

That would make it something quite special, not just a casual re-release of the 1.43.

I thought why not have a go at producing my own concept version, utilising what I have in my collection in the way of boxes and reference material, I used the 04201 version in the pictures.
My concept version is a box with an opening, with black tray inside to take the car and secret instructions, and to include a 24pp information leaflet. -{
Now you have to show us the other 23 pages of your booklet!
I now think the new DB5's will be 1:43. It seems like a new mould was made but the front bumper/grille is not like the 3-inch version so I believe we will see an updated version of the classic 1:43 car.
That would be a shame, I quite liked the idea of a re-issue of the very first smaller version. The release date is Jan 1st so we will all know for certain what size it is very shortly -{
Here is a comparison of the new one with a (silver repainted) 261, a 270 and a 96655. I am now not so sure it will be 1:43.
But as you say, we will know in a few days.

I just think it is a shame that after 50 year's, and Corgi's well known association with this particular model, they could have come up with something more special. Especially when you consider their 30th Goldfinger Anniversary model was an instant sell out at the time.

Wasn't looking all that closely and thought you had some how repurposed the RM auction box; all the more impressed that you created it. You need to do that book!
I created my concept box using scans from an original 261 box, and adjusted in photoshop to get the final size I wanted.
The RM auctions box was completely re-orignated using the 261 box for reference only.
The company that produced and printed the RM Auctions box had strict instructions to destroy any unwanted boxes and printed sheets along with the master print files upon completion of the job.
With regards to the book, lets wait and see
I still will be looking to buy the silver new release, but when I was looking for details to pass onto a friend in the UK who will buy for me I found that the two new DB5s have disappeared from Corgi's website : http://www.corgi.co.uk/shop/new-for-2015.html?order=sku&dir=asc&limit=64
Hopefully this is just an anomaly in their database and not something more ominous.
Great work with your concept packaging, Acacia_Ave, only a beancounter would favour Corgi's own design over yours!
EDIT: the two new Corgi DB5 models have now re-appeared on their website, so hopefully Corgi is still on track to deliver these this month.
Now the two models have re-appeared on Corgi's website, the gold version is noted as 'pre-orders sold out', so high demand might have caused their temporary removal. The estimated January 2015 delivery date has disappeared too, so maybe delayed shipping from the factory is another problem. I ordered one of each colour but there's been no sign of them turning up on the doorstep yet.
Hot Wheels has in the meantime announced another, cheaper 1:18 version of the GF DB5 - not an "Elite" but a "Heritage" model with just opening doors. This and the DB10 are scheduled for June 2016.
I checked some other models earlier announced as January releases and they have all had their due dates removed, but items for February and later still display dates.
I believe the production ratio is 5 silver DB5s to 1 gold DB5 and they will be sold to retailers only in these half-dozen batches.
I had to page back as far as page 272 of this thread to find again the info that Rainier Wolfcastle had posted regarding these two models and I see at that time (Feb 2014) that the intended release date was January 2015. I also checked the Diecast Legends e-shop and both still have the status of "pre-order". So there's a chance we will see these two before the two Corgi's.

As a big fan of Top Gear with a tendency to agree with most of James May's thoughts on cars etc, the article made me smile. When I was a kid I received the first Corgi JB DB5 one Christmas and it was amazing as JM says. Like most of my childhood mates, I hadn't seen Goldfinger at the time but we'd all seen teaser clips on TV of this sportscar with blazing machine guns, which made the new Corgi toy a must-have, just like kids wanting the latest hi tech stuff now. Up until that point, the best that toy cars had to offer were opening doors, bonnet, boot etc, perhaps with the odd figure included, so to suddenly see a toy car fitted with all the JB weaponry was staggering at the time. It then spawned all the rest with gadgets - Batmobile, Fab One, U.N.C.L.E. etc and set about raising the expectations of kids from new toy releases tenfold.
It's interesting that the scale of the original release (1:46) is mentioned - I'm still hoping that the new re-releases will also be in the original slightly smaller scale.
EDIT: Just noticed the 100mm measurement in the listing - that's the size of the later 1:43 scale model. Oh well.
