Although I wouldn’t mind if these Mercedes were in the collection, I have to say that I prefer the cars that have never been done before at all in 1:43 – like the Leyland Sherpa or a 69 Cougar or, amazingly, a 71 Mustang (except for the Corgi but this is a toy and not a collectors scale model – the Minichamps only came after Fabbri’s). A black Goldfinger Mercedes 180 and dark grey 220 S are both available as Mercedes dealer models (made by Minichamps, ca. 30 Euros) so I feel it’s not that terrible they are missing from the collection. Obviously the number plates are not correct, and they don’t come with figures and diorama …
What I didn’t know before and find really interesting is that model car collections are made for Poland and Russia, but they seem not to be available in the USA. I can imagine that the James Bond car collection or something like “Muscle Car Legends” would sell far better in the USA and Canada than the collections for the Eastern European countries.
And regarding delays: Ixo doesn’t do so bad when compared to Minichamps. Their Goldfinger Aston Martin was pushed back for, I think, five years before it finally arrived ...
RW, Thanks for the welcome! The thoughts on the Mercedes-Benz Ponton was more of a commentary as to "what are the makers thinking?" In other words, I know there are other options...I'm just wondering why GE Fabbri decided against doing a 220, especially since Ixo could so easily make a 220 and it was part of (arguably) one of the most famous car chases in cinematic history. I have two of the Altaya 180D taxis and the superb Replicars Cold War Series 180 (in black), and although I don't have one, I did know Minichamps made both a 180 and a 220 (albeit not in the colors shown...thanks for the tip!). More of a "why didn't they include this because of its role in Bond and ease of obtaining moulds for?" rather than "if they don't make one, I'll chain myself to GE Fabbri's headquarters!"
You'd be surprised how well the East Bloc stuff seems to sell in the US, although it may just be to the same group of people (myself included...). Certain cars...the black GAZ-13 Chaika and black GAZ-24-24 Volga that ultimately became symbols of the KGB's oppression (a lot like how we tend toward buying 1/43 scale Kuebelwagens), pretty much any Lada, the Moskvitch 408 and 412, the ZAZ-965A Zapropozhets ever since Goldeneye introduced that particular, laughable automobile to many US collectors...really seem to sell.
Also, while I know plenty of model muscle car enthusiasts, most prefer muscle cars in larger scales here. They're model car enthusiasts first, model train/diorama enthusiasts second. And as an example, look at how few pre-fabricated dioramas are sold in those scales, and while accessories to make mini-dioramas abound, the focus is on the car with very little put into the diorama, typically.
On the other hand, for some reason, most of the model car enthusiasts I meet that collect 1/43 where I live, in southern Indiana, also tend to be model train collectors and go for the more obscure stuff, usually modelled on vehicles made before 1980. Most also like relatively run-of-the-mill cars from prior to about 1965, as well. When someone I know who collects trains walks into my basement, they don't really comment on my 1/43 Mustangs or Camaros or MOPAR stuff (I do get comments about my '69 AMX, though). Instead, I get a lot of remarks about the East Bloc stuff and also a lot about my 1940's-1960's Brooklin. I guess it's just an outgrowth of the "never before done in 1/43" phenomenon you describe; as in "hey, that's really different!" I guess that's also the reason the Soviet and other East Bloc cars succeeded. If someone did a partwork series on 1940's-1960's sedans and station wagons, THAT would sell among American model train guys.
Also, the East Bloc trucks and buses sell. I mean, they REALLY sell, and not just to model car guys looking for something different. Anyone with a steam or steam-and-diesel layout, just about, goes for the East Bloc trucks and buses. Keep in mind that most of these layout enthusiasts are on the lookout for 1/43 scale trucks from the 1950's or 1960's to haul around 1/43 scale cargo, scrap, fuel, or whatever in. For reasons of size, comparatively few trucks were made in anything above 1/48 or 1/50 scale. But the Soviets consistently made 1/43 scale trucks that looked like (and in some cases were) knockoffs of 1930's-1950's American trucks. When the USSR dissolved and private companies began forming, they kept building 1/43 scale trucks and buses to meet the demand. When foreign companies entered, they found that they too had to make their trucks in 1/43 scale. Some layout enthusiasts will say "don't have 1/43 scale trucks; they'll dwarf your locomotives," (since the locomotives and train cars are 1/48) but others like myself will debate them to the end of time because all the accessories are 1/43. There's a reason most of my truck fleet is East Bloc-derived: it's just the right scale.
I'll admit, it's not formally sold here, but when it is sold at all, you get the cheap stuff like Agat (the old moulds of Soviet Radon with even worse quality control) going for $15-$25 a pop and Radon going for around $25-$50 per (way more if the bottom shows the car is an "A-series"). USSR AvtoLegende and Kultowe Auta PRL tend to go for about $40 each (more for black limos) at train shows if/when you can find them; Ist Models about the same because they're distributed here, but more detailed. DiP Models, BIZ Models, Kherson Models, Vector Models, some other super-high-detail Ukrainian company? Forget it; you'll get some fairly tale from the dealer telling you how they're one of a kind and why $500 for the cheapest flatbed truck is actually a good deal. Fortunately, they're all much less expensive and much more available on eBay.
Regarding Minichamps delays: I agree. They're worse than Ixo, although I'm not sure why and don't have an inside scoop.
And regarding delays: Ixo doesn’t do so bad when compared to Minichamps. Their Goldfinger Aston Martin was pushed back for, I think, five years before it finally arrived ...
A quick correction on something I said earlier...I mentioned that Ixo's partwork series in Russia for police/ambulance/fire was called "Medpomosh." Shows ya what I know: they changed the name to Avtomobilyi na Sluzhba, which means "Cars in Service."
As a brief observation, has anyone else been following the Ford Crown Victoria on eBay and how it's been selling? I've never seen any Bond car sell so poorly. I'm used to seeing stuff start out selling for 30-40 GBP due to US demand. Thus far, one of the Crown Vics has managed to get up to 18 GBP, but that's the top price so far (excluding buy it nows, of course). I'm honestly surprised at the complete lack of enthusiasm this car is getting, especially since it is a pretty nice representation of a Miami-Dade police car.
The Ford crown Victoria looks pretty good. For those that are interested I am still waiting for 96, 97, 98 and 99. I have phoned the hotline every week for a number of weeks and told they are waiting shipment, they are in the warehouse, should be with you next week. Friday I was told i received delivery on the 27th October!!! Somebody is taking the Michael ! The laugh is they now have my money for the next two issues 100 and 101 . Not happy!
Issue 101 will be the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II from AVTAK (confirmed it by clicking an eBay link with a photo of the front and back covers of magazine #100). They're are already offered for sale without the magazines in Hong Kong, by the way, if you don't read the magazines or want a second one to fool around with (as I often do). I've not gotten mine yet, but I ordered rather early and it should be coming any day. I'll be sure and a take a couple pics of it for everyone here when it arrives, both on and off the diorama stand/display plinth (I keep the diorama stands and covers in storage). I'm also really tempted to convert the license plates to what they said in real life: "CUB1" (I thought Cubby giving his car a cameo in the film was truly priceless, and one of AVTAK's few redeeming moments for me...).

It's actually a serious possibility - I'm not a subscriber but have received issues 97 & 98 without a hitch.
I have, on occasion, returned to the house and found packages left on the doorstep by Postman Pat - anybody passing by could have taken them and I'd never have known!!! 8-)

"We are currently discussing [the ZiL limousine] with factories."
Actually, what he really said was: "We are currently discussing [the ZIL limousine] with factories as to how to make it look good or at least sinister like the old ZIL!"
It looks...umm...silly. One contributing factor that doesn't have anything to do with design is the overly shiny paint scheme. If they made it a more muted shiny black like the old ZIL's and ZIS's going back to the 1930's, it could still look halfway decent. Oh, and replace the hubcaps with ZIL-41047 hubcaps, since the ones currently on it have got to be the ugliest hubcaps I've ever seen on a luxury limo.
Perhaps I'll pass on the future Bond villain car...if I'd let them do anything, I'd love for it to be one of those gigantic FAW (First Automobile Works) Hong-Qi CA7600 V-12 Limousines coming out of China. The design, from the windscreen on back, is basically knocked off the new Rolls-Royce. But everything fore of the windscreen is purely inspired by the old Hong-Qi CA770, which was sort of a hybrid of a ZIL-111G, a Toyota Crown Limousine, and a Chrysler 300. Here's a pic...
Communist-looking, vaguely sinister, immensely powerful, and not an eyesore either. So basically just how I like my Bond "main bad guy" cars.
In other news, my Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II arrived from Hong Kong yesterday. NICE car! I'll have some pictures up later today or, at latest, tomorrow.
Okay, sorry I only have two photos of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II, but I had some lighting problems while taking the majority of the photos. If you still want me to post these photos, please, by all means tell me and I will.
On the layout. The car in front of it you may recognize as Count Lippe's Ford Fairlane Skyliner (one of the few cars I've not made any modifications to...I just don't see the need). Also, the Dinky Toys are from Dad's childhood collection and have a lot of meaning to me, even though they're hardly of the same detail as most of my other stuff. Also note the wonderful figures Dad hand-painted.
Detailed photo of the car and the only one that turned out of the close-up pics.
Of any of the Rollers they've thus far issued, the Phantom III is my favorite (I have it driving past City Hall on the layout with a gray-haired, bureaucratic type in the back, implied to be some kind of politician)...though I have to admit, this one is a close second.
"Wikipedia update: 111 BMW R1200 (unconfirmed) - a hoax perhaps??"
Given what we know about the "4-extra-week" delay and also now that Ixo is running the show, I can't imagine any more models being added.
96 , 97, 98 , 99 have arrived !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So 100, 101 should not be far away now.
Re 111 rumoured BMW R1200, this would be a perfect edition to the collection. Why would somebody make it up? Although last week the fourth gift was to be a horse box. Who is updateing wikepedia? Is it one of our regular contributors. They are either in the know or just optimistic . Either way it all adds to the mystery of this collection.
GE FABBRI keep them coming , dont stop at 110 there are plenty more issues to be had in this collection.

I received my VTAK Rolls Royce yesterday (an eBay purchase from China).
While the car is really nice, I was disappointed in the diorama aspect of the car. The background is clearly the point where Mayday and Zorin push Tibbett's Rolls into a lake.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the car is pointing the wrong way. It went bonnet first into the lake. Secondly, there's no sign of Mayday and Zorin in the background. Thirdly, wasn't Tibbet dead in the back seat and Bond unconscious in the front? There are no figures inside the Rolls - living, dead or unconscious.
Given the attention to detail in previous dioramas, this is all a little unforgivable. It's even more unforgivable when you consider that just including a background of Zorin's stables and Tibbett with a bucket and sponge (washing the Rolls) would have precluded the need for any figures inside the car.
Not sure. Whoever it is did get one big one wrong a few months ago, though, saying that one of the issues would be a TMWTGG AMC Matador Thai Police Car...something which we haven't seen anything close to.

Easy solution, unscrew model and turn it round to face the other way .:)

Maybe its GE Fabbri, possibly a good bit of marketing, injects interest for us the subscribers. If not its a good list of what has been or might be.from a very keen subscriber.
With the delay of my last four issues where are we at with issues. Should i now be expecting 100/101 in the coming days?
While the car is really nice, I was disappointed in the diorama aspect of the car. The background is clearly the point where Mayday and Zorin push Tibbett's Rolls into a lake.
Duh, why didn't I think of that? Oh, wait a minute, I did. But then I realized that Zorin and Mayday were still missing from the backdrop and there were still no figures in the car.
The point was that, as a diorama and compared to previous issues, this one is poorly executed.
hello everyone i picked up issue 100 today from my the newsagents and in the magazine a letter tells all about how the issues are 1 every 4 weeks ,and the next issue 101 will be available from the 1st of december. it also says issue 102 will be the bondola from moonraker.
Hi everyone, can't believe we are getting close to the end. I don't want it to stop especially since the recent issues have been so good!
I don't want it to stop so much that I am making my own dioramas, thanks to many great ideas picked up on this site.
Hey Rhinoman, sorry for the delay in getting you these photos but the summer and fall have been so good in Canada that I have not been able to spend much time on the models. Hope you like them?
Can anyone help me with the background photos, I can't seem to figure out how to get a still photo from the DVD. I have used the backdrops that some sent in a while back...thanks again!
So here are some of the vehicles I have been working on, I did the graphics on the vehicles myself. Too bad the TEXRON truck and the New Holland are 1:50 scale but that was as close as I could find.
Also where can I find figures that would go with some of these scenes, I saw the pics from the gentleman, I believe was from France, he has fantastic figures, does he make them himself?
I am including a Mercedes Ponton from goldfinger, I am going to use a Corgi OddJob figure, Rolls from OHMSS,
Rolls from FRWL
I will send some pics of vehicles that I would love to have a diorama, or two from 1967 Casino Royale, again please help me if you can with the backdrops

Thanks
