LaKisha performs Diamonds Are Forever!

Tonight on American Idol, Lakisha Jones performed the Shirley Bassey classic Diamonds Are Forever, though the theme was 60s Songs. Also, another Bond connection, LuLu was there to coach the girls (good thing none of them sang TMWTGG ;)).

Did anyone else catch it? Sadly, my stupid Fox affiliate had cable problems and the entire judging part was cut out, but if anyone else happened to catch it please let me in on it!

How Hilly knows he needs to get a life:

I'm no Idol fan, but I walk into my house on Tuesday night just as LaKisha is getting skewered by Simon. My oldest daughter, who knows I love Bond, excited tells me that LaKisha had sung "DAF". I ask if the theme was movie songs, or songs about bling, or whatever, and my daughter tells me it's 60s songs. Whereupon I launch into a 3-minute rant on how DAF came out in 1971, and how could they play fast and loose with the Bond film timeline, blah blah. My daughter and wife immediately ask me if I had been fired at work or something, because what else could explain such an OTT reaction. :s

By chance I caught it, and while the remainder of the show bored me to tears (notable exception: the pre-teen broad who was crying hysterically for the entire two hours!!! I laughed until I was hoarse), but for a few minutes I was mezmerized... I thought it was juust short of perfect, she got a little lost in the middle of the song, but aside from that, an excellent rendition on a crappy popularity contest.

:)) You're not alone Hilly. I am constantly ranting about Bond in the outside world. A few years ago I got into a frustrating argument with one of my father's friends who was absolutely insistent that OHMSS, not DN, was the first Bond film. Naturally, after presenting proof, he conceded to me. ;)

A noble effort from Lakisha, however Shirley Bassey's shoes are much too big to fill.

Did anyone else notice that she sang "nothing lies (instead of hides) in the heart to hurt me?" I doubt any of the judges caught it, but I'm sure a tear steamed down the face of any Bond fan who happened to be in the audience. :))

I am not a religious follower of American Idol, but I have always hoped for a Bond themed night. I guess this is the closest we are ever going to get.

We get this over here on a Friday evening and I thought LaKisha performed well if not brilliantly. That Jordin [sic?] sang I Who Have Nothing with real depth and emotion.

Can I also be the first to ask our American friends: who or what is this Sanjaya?

Not terrible, but I'm sure Dame Shirley isn't losing any sleep over it.

I did some research, and apparently he is a dreadful singer (actualy, I know this for certain), as well as sexualy "uncertain".

The kicker is that there is a website dedicated to exposing american idol for what it is (popularity vote) by stuffing the ballot box for Sanjaya, with the hopes that a no-talent dip will be crowned American Idol.

The second kicker is the rumors that the producers of the show are taking precautions to Sanjaya winning by hyping up his popularity with the pre-teens, even going as far as to have plants in the audience who are in near hysterics when Sanjaya preforms.

Honestly, I'm a little ashamed that I know this much about it, but I'm a selfless fellow, so I subjected myself to torture to enlighten you. I accept all forms of money, including cans and other recyclables.
