Not quite getting the "playground" reference in that context, I think it's a fair thing to say and a valid opinion that CR Craig was hotter than DAD Brosnan.
I don't care if you get it or not. Elimination, comparison, yadda yadda, bit different to constantly going on about how hot some actor is in a tired retread of a year old plus argument.

Seems there's still a strong female presense on AJB, as the many posters in this thread show. Some male members have also been lost over the past year, so maybe the female members who've moved on are in a reasonable context? Winds of fate, and all that?
Alessandra has disappeared, she was young, but her posts were full of life and smiley faces.
Indeed, Alessandra was like a breath of fresh air, she really brightened up this place. Alas, Daniel Craig, the re-boot etc was a Bond bridge too far for her.
Another female member I haven't noticed round here lately is ilove pierce. I hope you are still with us, Jen.

Yeah, I believe she said as much in one of her last posts, Craig's not for her etc.? And, wasn't there even a bit of an effort to talk her out of leaving, or was I imagining that?
I really have to speak up because many of the women in question are my friends.
It's ironic that there is an exchange above in this thread that exactly illustrates the manipulative ways of a certain thick headed member, and why certain women have left in frustration. And men too I'm sure.
Thank you Barry Nelson. I know you meant well with this thread. I told MBE about the kind words about her and she wanted me to send her best.
I've been here almost 5 years, and what former members have told me and I feel the same way myself, there is a small group of male posters that dominate here. Two in particular I have a huge problem with. They are beyond rude, hijacking almost every single thread, ramming their opinions down our throats about points they have made a million times before. Even amongst many warnings from moderators to back off, they just keep doing it. They love to hear themselves talk, (type?) and are completely intolerant of anyone else's right to disagree. They make things miserable for some, with their provoking and condescending ways.
What would be nice to see is LESS of them, and hear more from other members. The other night when I had really had it here, I received quite a few supportive PMs from people who said they don't even bother posting, let alone disagreeing anymore because of all the disrespect they are shown. These are intelligent members who have a lot to say but don't think the browbeating they get is worth it. I think that is a terrible shame and not at all what this forum was intended for. People come here for fun, and we used to laugh so much, there just wasn't this nasty divison and line crossing of pro and anti.
I really hope aside from banning those two, that things can get back to what they once were. That they will step back, and let other people speak up and have the floor for a change. Maybe then some of the females will return.
Thank you again for all the kindness so many of you have shown me the last few days. :x

Still Mo, sometimes an internet feud can get really annoying and end up dominating the board and ruining all the fun. Stick around and ignore them! Pretend that they're not there, that's what I do on other boards.

I really do hope you stay with us, Monique. This place will be sadder for your absence.
You shouldn't let a minority (loud as they are) spoil your enjoyment to the point where you wan't to leave. I will admit there are one or two members here (not the members you are referring to) who I have no respect for, but I refuse to let them spoil my enjoyment of AJB. I just ignore them and treat them with the contempt they deserve.

That's really great advice, MNL, seriously. With Moore comes wisdom, obviously.
As for Barry's specifc lament, can't say I miss the days of MBE_ and Monique (and a few notable others) being the "loud minority." Appreciated their knowledge of Bond lore, but they did tend to chase away divergent opinion, especially as concerned Craig in the role (granted this is from my own POV, which will be 180 degrees from theirs, no doubt). Craig-hate was the driving force of this board for quite some time, not sad to see it pass, but can understand what that passing cost, and that it is sad for some.
Glad that there are still strong female voices on AJB, and with new ones coming onboard all the time reagrdless of specific Bond likes and dislikes. Viva le differences and may all resultant debates reign supreme.
I haven't noticed a lack of women on AJB... I guess it's because I'm a member of a (different) forum that used to have a female member a long time ago, but now only has a bunch of men that act as if they're in an exclusive club...

Blueman, you're letting your inexperience show. I would suggest you look at the 100+ pages of the Izzy thread - yes, every one - as an example of a cohesive, united fandom, and to see that there was no consensus about Brosnan or any other being king. Instead what you will see is five years of AJB made flesh. Five years which did include Mo and MBE - to name two members who I am sure you are familiar with - being full on, sense of humour, proper members of AJB.
This site has never, ever had "Craig hate" as its "driving force", and as a moderator and user of AJB, I am deeply offended and insulted that you could suggest such a thing. The overriding principle of all moderators on this website has been to let the users form the content, and we have not intruded unless there was an absolute need. When Craig was announced there was a huge debate among 007 fandom as to "which side to take". I wish I could allow you into the Moderator forum to see how we arrived, as a group, to the decision that AJB would not adopt a stance on this issue. Instead, AJB has always allowed both sides of the Craig debate to thrive. It has been our perspective that, just as in Connery vs Moore debates, just as in Connery vs Lazenby debates, just as in Dalton vs Brosnan debates, the community of AJB will find,if not consensus, then tolerance and agreement which means no body of fandom will be victimised or intimidated. The anti-Craig voice was incredibly powerful until the premiere of CR; the pro-Craig voice has been incredibly powerful since. Those of us in favour of good, entertaining James Bond films, are pro action, pro humour, pro Bond.
One member of this site never speaks for the whole; indeed, even as I write as a moderator, I am sure there may be members of the moderating team who disagree with my post. That is why AJB is such a good Bond discussion site. It is a collection of people who are passionate about James Bond 007, and it is a strength we will always build on, regardless of sex, sexuality, race, or even something so vitally important as "who is the best James Bond?".

Okay, everyone stop or I'm sending you both to time out! Blueman and Monique, I think you're both very good voices around here, I think what you say is very interesting, and it's fun to read. I don't think anyone has to be taking cheap shots at each other (and it goes to both sides) and should just learn to get along and respect each others opinions. And if you happen to run into each other on a separate thread, don't make a big stink, just ignore each other, though it might be hard to do.
AJB is a family, a somewhat dysfunctional one , but a family nonetheless, and everyone here should try their best to get along regardless. So I believe that bygones should be bygones, and everyone should apologize to each other so we can all be happy!
I hate to see people fight when I'm not the one who starts it.

Jetset, I PM'd you about your post, hope it helps clear things up (short version: my post wasn't about the mods here, and agree 100% that AJB is member-driven, but agree to disagree with you about Craig-hate being a prominant feature on the board, post-the Craig casting announcement, the back-and-forth about Craig nearly shut this place down, as I recall).
Not really though, though at the time of his casting, I remember not spending much time on the CR forum because I didn't have anything to say on the matter.

Not really sure that's true- you just have to have a look at the thread of the day of his announcement: other forums were much more balanced but for whatever reason, it was pretty heavy going against Craig here. Thus AJB did get a bit of a name as an anti site. That's not to do with anyone who runs it, just that the conversations tended to drift that way- there's no need to be offended by what people thought of the site when it doesn't have a strict editorial voice.

AJB was never an anti-Craig site, if that was your (and other peoples) perception, then it was/is a shame.
One thing I will add though is that other Bond sites didn't allow, in fact they banned, any anti-Craig feeling - we didn't, and perhaps that's why those who opposed Craig posted here.
At AJB we try and take a balanced view and let all parties have their say - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
And to add to what Sir Miles said, AJB never came close to shutting down because of the arguments about Craig. Not once. It should also be pointed out that we banned a member who created a lot of "art" that showed how "wrong" Craig was for the role and who insisted on posting his masterworks over and over again. Once we showed him the door he went off to a certain anti-Craig site and became the resident artist there. I guess you can blame us for that. . .
Oh, was that FROSTY? I wondered what happened to him, was looking out for his review on CR. Didn't know he'd been banned. Odd, he seemed normal enough most of the time (didn't know about his banning offence).
No, it wasn't Frosty--it was Ali Kerim Bey, he of the images of Craig turning into a caveman or Curly from The Three Stooges. Not that he deserves any publicity.
Oh, do you know what happened to FROSTY then? A bit off topic, but I originally had him down as a woman too, felt all gallant and sad when I offended him on a thread, only to find out he was a bloke later on... :v ?:) )

AJB was never an anti-Craig site, if that was your (and other peoples) perception, then it was/is a shame.
I know- I was saying that once the bad feeling started, more felt it okay to join in; something which didn't happen on other sites for probably no particular reason other than people who liked him posted before those who didn't. A sort of random snowball effect. And that rather lead to the effect that AJB became home to a greater or louder number of people who disliked Craig before the film was released. So in that way, it sort of was an anti-Craig site: but not through any sort of editorial decision, just through the members.
One thing I will add though is that other Bond sites didn't allow, in fact they banned, any anti-Craig feeling - we didn't, and perhaps that's why those who opposed Craig posted here.
No- that's simply not true; other sites did exactly the same as AJB and banned the members like Ali Kerim Bay who persisted in being childish and personally attacking Craig: and those who liked him but behaved in the same manner were booted off too. No-one banned anyone for simply not liking him. If you're going to be disappointed that particular views of AJB were held by people off site, you shouldn't really spread falsehoods about other sites.
AIt should also be pointed out that we banned a member who created a lot of "art" that showed how "wrong" Craig was for the role and who insisted on posting his masterworks over and over again. Once we showed him the door he went off to a certain anti-Craig site and became the resident artist there. I guess you can blame us for that. . .
Yeah, but that thread, which was a really nasty thing just breeding hatred and agression and ridiculing a man for his looks (which aren't even that bad!) went on for 80-odd pages! And I do remember, when I asked about that, you defended it saying Craig should be prepared for it; whereas my point was that whether he's prepared for it or not doesn't mean that AJB have to be the site to allow it's members to give it in such a childish and downright unpleasant manner. Got rather nasty, in fact and invited me to leave if I didn't like it. That's the sort of thing that gets a site a title like 'anti-Craig site'.

Simon had a banner posted on the front page for a couple months, saying stop the Craig bashing or else. No other fan site took (or found themselves in the position to take) such an action. Craig-hate was the driving force of the day on AJB, back then--how could that not be the perception, when such action needed to be taken against it?
And, AJB may not have been in danger of shutting down, but Simon posted more than once how sick and tired of this place he'd become, and that it had indeed crossed his mind to close the place down.
(I'm not trying to speak for anybody, just citing two points on record, the banner and some posts. Simon, if I'm presenting your actions or feelings erroneously, please set the record straight. Your actions--especially the posts you made--really hit home for me, about what was going on here, and had a significant impact on my own thinking and actions...I'd like to think I'm a better poster these days, although I know some here would debate the point.)

There is a world of difference between not-liking someone and personally attacking someone - I stand by my comment that certain sites banned anti-Craig comments - perhaps feelings was too vague and open to misinterpretation, I'm not spreading any falsehoods about other sites - please remember there are other Bond sites than CBn, I presume that is the site you are alluding too ? Although they did take a very pro-active stance in the promotion of Craig.
I'd like to add that I'm in no way trying to start any argument with CBn, or it's members - or any other site for that matter. I am a member of several other Bond sites and respect their views.

Oh ha ha ha, jetset you're so funny, but what about when I bring up the movie that must not be named?
Jetset, I PM'd you about your post, hope it helps clear things up (short version: my post wasn't about the mods here, and agree 100% that AJB is member-driven, but agree to disagree with you about Craig-hate being a prominant feature on the board, post-the Craig casting announcement, the back-and-forth about Craig nearly shut this place down, as I recall).
