That's the beauty of football. Anything can happen to any team. Love to see Italy and Scotland make it through so we don't have to hear Domenech trash anyone anymore. He's just too arrogant for his own good and I think even the French Federation is aware of it.

Still, first time in 57 years... I want France to go through, my default option would be to support France in the absence of Scotland. Do I think we're going to get through? Heck no, I'm Scottish, optimism about our national team isn't in my nature! But I think it's doable, and I'm thinking there's a chance...

Hi Moonraker 5 and John Drake, you guys should be proud of your country. They've done a bang-up job and are turning heads in Europe. They've alreday gone above and beyond any expectation no matter what happens from here on. They're definitely in the driver's seat for the return match with my fellow countrymen. History is on your side when it comes to playing in Hampden Park. Italy has never won on Scottish soil and Italy also failed to qualify for European Championship after they won the 1982 World Cup even though they still had quality players on that team as well. Italy is also not at its best at the moment and recovery of several key players like Zambrotta and Materazzi will be crucial for Italy. No matter what happens November 17th, all eyes will be focused on your country and deservedly so. It's a dream matchup with the world champions going up against one of the hottest clubs in Europe at the moment. Best of luck and hopes for a sterling match. {[]

Russia look like plodders in the first half, then come alive for the second half, exploiting England's fabled complacency. Gerrard is AWOL for most of the match, Owen gets nothing of much, confirming that he only plays well alongside a weaker striker.

John, the draw was no more harsh than the teams Scotland drew in the following:
WC 1982 - in the same group with Brazil and USSR
WC 1986 - in the same group with Denmark, West Germany and Uruguay
WC 1990 - with Brazil once again and Sweden
WC 1998 - once again with your pals Brazil, Norway and Morocco
and then in the final phase of Euro 1992 in the same group with Holland and Germany and Euro 1996 with England and Holland.

I woke up at 3 in the morning, thinking it was 3 in the afternoon and went out to buy some food. Funnily enough the shops weren't open. Great days.

It may actually be a first as opera is concerned ) I've been reading that your country is all pumped up for the match and I can't believe you're going to miss Scotland's most important game after following this entire tournament I was wondering if Sir Sean Connery will be in attendance? Have you read anything about him being there in the Scottish papers?
