I'd love to try those sites out. The one thing I like about the guttersnipe, is the fact that you can see what you are shooting at (no front site blocking the target), making it much simpler to hit a moving target. This was something lost on people who tried and hated the guttersnipe after shooting at static targets.
Never got the chance to try that setup - looks interesting. I would think that trying to punch bullseyes with it would be a disaster.
For close up I have always used the "point shoot" and I can do fairly well within ten or fifteen feet, beyond that sights are needed. I would think the guttersnipe or this STI invention (or the new Colt Agent) would all serve well out to fifteen yards or so.

‘I think [getting involved in all aspects] is important,’ said Craig. ‘I mean, for me, one of the things about the books that was so great was Ian Fleming’s eye for detail. And that I feel I owe to the movie. And so we have to have meetings about which gun to use; we’re using the Walther PPK in this, but we also use other guns and we set them out and compare them and see what would look good…’
What other guns, Craig? Inquiring minds want to know!

Where did you find this quote Nightshooter? That's great!
In other Walther news, the PPS is now in airsoft: http://www.umarexusa.com/detail.aspx?ID=330
It's supposedly got a metal slide and is quite inexpensive. Want to know the catch? Oh, there's always a catch isn't there? NOBODY HAS IT IN STOCK!!! Sorry, had to vent. I got very excited, very quickly and then, even more quickly, just as disappointed. I'll try to be patient.

I continue to be amazed how involved DC seems to be with the presentation of James Bond, and his devotion to having the charecter actually develop in each film. I think this really is the first time that any real thought has been given to exploring Bond's "inner world"!
As for picking the PPK from all the other available weapons - including the lovely P99 and PPS - it makes sense to me that DC would settle on Fleming's choice of the PPK. The DC quote reveals that he is sensitive to Fleming's Bond, but grounded in the REAL world in which the PPK is the modern day equivlent of that nasty little .25 Beretta from the 1950's.
Looks more and more like ASP9mm's "wanky" gun moment may be really "WANKY"!
I still say the PPK is very underpowered for the things the modern James Bond has to deal with. For a Tuxedo gun, it is fine however. I wonder if it will be the classic 7.65mm like Bond used to use or the .380?
As for Bond's PPK , it's supposed to be a .32, since its "only a movie" doubt the producers will try and update the caliber.
Funny thing is that in the past the .32 PPK has often been portrayed by a .380 - prehaps the .380 is more "blank friendly". These days with high def and all they had better be more careful!
Any blow back gun is easy to blank out. A very good friend of mine who is a gunsmith did all of the custom guns in Mr and Mrs Smith, and we talked about what is easy to blank out and what guns make life miserable when trying to convert over.
ASP, thanks I love that BHP. Ted Yost built it for me this past year.

Bapty had real problems converting the P99 which is why they used the PAK. Presumably Crowne had the same problems. You can always tell the live P99's that are used in the Bond films as they have the breech machined quite severely.
Blanking out guns with floating barrels involves lots of work. They start with opening the ejection port quite a bit since a fired blank is longer than a fired shell casing. They also radius the inside of the ejection port quite radically so the fired blank doesn't snag on any sharp edges. The ejector is shortened and the upper lugs are removed from the barrel, making it blow back operated. The spring is replace with a lighter one. The inside of the barrel is then threaded and a set screw is threaded in. Then they drill an appropriate sized hole in the set screw for the gun. Of coarse with revolvers, nothing needs to be done.

I have a deac one. I shot the real one at the MOD range a few months back and I'm really impressed by it. It feels good and is accurate for such a short barrel.
Looks good suppressed too.

Suppressed PPK? Certainly looks like it, the can is too slim to be used on anything larger. This is from the gallery fight scene...

Now that we've all see the trailer (and if you haven't, go watch it), what guns are there? I can't make out any of the pistols - the cuts are just too fast.
Anybody? Especially interested in the one he cocks at the beginning.

Just downloaded the ultra hi def version. You can see it's a SIG, so is the gun in the fight flashes a few seconds after.

There's also a snubby concealed in a briefcase, Bond using a BHP across a rooftop, and the end shows him swinging and picking up a heavily suppressed PPK. No P99 or PPS at all are featured in the teaser, so us gun nuts have learned nothing. The SIG does appear to be a stolen or appropriated pistol though, taken after or during a fight. Hopefully we'll see the PPK under Olga's picture in the briefcase next to the revolver, that would be a nice nod to Fleming.
I've always admired the walther PPK, you know, as a gundealer but i'ld prefer the smith $ wesson, they should really check into that aspect.. a kimber eclipse would be nice looking.. dont you think..?
Bond is Bond, and to have him use something other than a Walther would be like having John Wayne show up in a western with an Uzi.
We are back with the PPK, that's fine - it's the traditional cinema Bond pistol, can't argue with that. If oo7 is going to use any other brands - they should be "pick-ups" not issued pistols.
I am a fan of the novels, so I am always happy to see a Fleming choice appear. But since the last book was written about a half century ago - all of IF's choices are pretty antique nowdays.
I would at least like to see a farewell to the P99 that worked so well in "Casino Royale".
No it isn't. The shot at the end of the trailer really isn't very clear, even with high-def video. But you see earlier in the video, at time 1:12, when he drops the PPK it isn't supressed.
So Bond has got a PPK again or are we just going off what we can see in the trailer ?
I always thought that the P99 suited Brosnan and Craig. It looks like a sterner gun, and in scenes such as the one when Brosnan is holding the P99 against Renard's head, is makes Bond look more violent than he would if he were holding a PPK.
So I obviously think it suits Craig too, seeing as his Bond is only a few steps shy of being the Son of Sam.

The grips gave it away to me as regards Colt and the name is emblazoned on the slide, so not too difficult to google.
Seems to have been in a couple of movies too: http://www.imfdb.org/index.php?title=Image:Strayer-Voigt.jpg
