My proposal still stands with you, Tony. Ledger's Joker will be the best adaptation to date despite him not being very cheery...or classic-looking.
You mean your promise to draw and ink an image of my choosing if I don't like TDK? I've been giving that some more thought. Right now, I'm thinking something along the lines of me and Halle Berry in Green Lantern costumes. But that could change.

There's a new brief interview over at IGN with Christoper Nolan. He talks about the movie in general and Harvey Dent / Two-Face in particular; there's also confirmation of an interesting rumor that has been making the rounds. There's a minor spoiler about the movie's villains, so read at your own discretion.
Heath Ledger was just found dead in NYC! They just reported it on CNN News!
No other details were given but it was confirmed! This is shocking...
RIP.
I just heard this on the radio...
I am simply shocked! I wonder what happened.
A fine actor, may he rest in peace.

Actor Heath Ledger Is Found Dead
By Sewell Chan
The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body.
This is horrible.

Yeah, I know. And he was only 28. We may not find out the source until later but they say that he was scheduled for a massage and the therapist is who found him.
Tragic.
EDIT: Thanks for the post, Tee. I just saw.

Now they're saying that he was discovered surrounded by sleeping pills.
He was recently separated from his wife so it could've been an apparent suicide.

I was probably listening to the same radio channel as Tee Hee...I'm shocked beyond words. Truly sad, especially if the early stories turn out to be true. He was a gifted young actor with an impressive body of work already behind him---and a long one ahead...yet to be fulfilled.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
Does anyone know whether photography on TDK had wrapped?

I only just heard this news. It's very sad, and it's likely to make The Dark Knight seem kind of creepy and the inevitable Joker toys look somewhat tasteless.

Yes- hopefully it isn't tasteless to say this, but it feels like it'll be the new 'The Crow' for this generation.
What an awful thing it is. Terribly sad to be leaving behind a little girl.

I think that it will boost people's curiosity to witness Ledger's last cinematic performance ala Brandon Lee in The Crow.
Not that that matters now movie-wise but we're all familiar with people's morbid sense...

It's awful. Just awful. I really liked this guy; the first thing I believe I saw him do was Roland Emmerich's The Patriot, and I thought he gave a very strong performance.
This will send ripples across the movie business, and the summer season

They are saying now that the substance he'd taken was over the counter medication. Still they are not conceding that he was intentionally trying to kill himself but I fear that he was...
The guy seemed so lowkey that it's quite possible. Hard to read people like that usually.

Excuse me for possible tastelessness, but I believe there was a billing dispute on Dark Knight between Mr Ledger and Sir Michael Caine. Initially, Ledger was to be billed straight after Christian Bale followed by Caine. Caine asserted his rights (double-Oscar winner, knighthood, 45-year career, already in the series) and was consequently billed second. Hollywood being what it is, I wonder if this undoubted tragedy will cause a change in what is a commercial industry, after all?
(Not meaning to detract from a horrible situation, obviously)
I just hope that no-one involved in the Batman film is feeling responsible- having him be so dark and evil for all those months must make you worry if you sent him to a dark place.
Wrong for us to be speculating from a thousand miles away, though. Just very, very sad. We were the same age

It's certainly not an unreasonable point; I'm sure the entire cast and crew are devastated.
I seem to remember something from a 'fluff' magazine piece, from the past three or four months, where Ledger talked about being a bit 'method' in his approach...still, though, stuff does tend to happen around that age. He outlived Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix by a year...
Whether it was accidental/recreational drug use, or deliberate, it's equally a loss for fans of acting and films. Yet another tragedy in a business that doesn't need any more.

Of course; although now I think I did see a piece in which he said: "The Joker was the most fun I've ever had, and probably ever will have playing a character"
so I hope I'm off-base with that one.
I literally just found out about Mr. Ledger's death while checking my homepage. When I saw the headline my heart lumped in my throat.
The first thing that popped into my mind upon reading the news was how early images of Mr. Ledger as the Joker were being compared to the late Brandon Lee's character of The Crow. Even though the causes of their respective deaths are apparently very different, those comparisons now have an even more eerie and darker significance.
I'm utterly in shock by this. I hadn't followed his career much but I wasn't aware of any issues he may have had involving either depression or drugs. What a terrible, terrible loss and such a waste of a great, still largely untapped talent.

A couple updates:
The rumor that the apartment belonged to Mary Kate Olsen has been disbanded.
The New York Police have told TMZ that Ledger's death was accidental. Sounds pretty presumptuous coming so early though, especially from a source such as TMZ.

Yes it does. It's hard to understand when they die so young. You sit in disbelief for days just hoping that it's a bad dream. Then reality sets in and you have to deal with the facts.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
Watching The Dark Knight will be quite disturbing now - I really hope that his performance will confirm a legacy of excellent work

Yeah, I think it's going to be weird watching him onscreen now. I recall begging my aunt to take me to see ENTER THE DRAGON was I was a little boy because I was a huge Bruce Lee fan...then I had heard of his passing on the news one afternoon & I was devastated.
I went to see the movie anyway when it premiered but such tragedies take something away from blockbusters like those. I remember enjoying it but it wasn't quite the same impact-wise and it was a packed house who came out for it.
I've a feeling that this one won't be any different. I'm still psyched to see it but a little numb now...
It will be interesting how this will play out; will WB delay the film? Will people still care to see it? We'll soon see...
