:)) :)) Just watch your back Rogue; I know they've been suitably humbled but you never know what they might try.

BTW, looks like WB's initial tally for the weekend was wrong; the movie actually made more than originally estimated, taking in $158,411,483 plus another 40,300,000 overseas.

That will not doubt upset the Marvel Sisters even further; if they start crying again, just tell them ... Lets put a SMILE on that face!!! :))

Yeah,I brought Little Hal home for the week just in case they decide to do something in retaliation. :))

Oh yeah...more ammo to use against those two tackhead cronies. B-)

Speaking of the accurate weekend take, there's alot of buzz going around on comic book sites that the third installment is a foregone conclusion (as we all know) and there are sides wanting the next villian to be either The Riddler or The Penguin from what I've tallied thus far.

The fanboy teaser posters have begun already; here's my favorite design so far...

The John Glover BTAS Riddler anyone? B-)

I always like the Riddler, going back to the Frank Gorshein days. Never cared for The Penquin, too odd a character, expecially Danny DeVito's take.

Well...I saw it for a second time today, with my brother, who's in town from LA, and my sister's sons...

And I can't wait to see it a THIRD TIME when I can talk my wife into going. This is a classic, IMO.

As to whether or not it's the best comic book movie ever---I don't know. The first Superman is right up there...the first two Spidermans are right up there for me as well...and Iron Man also sits in this very elite top tier, as far as I'm concerned.

That said, I think it's very possible that Nolan's two Batman entries might just sit atop the heap B-) An argument can be made that Ledger's performance gives TDK the edge. He completely runs the table in every single scene in which he appears; I couldn't take my eyes off him. My favourite Joker moment was when
...The Joker strolls out onto the street in front of the hospital, in broad dayling and full 'nurse drag,' fiddless with the remote detonator and waits in frustration, waving his arms exasperatedly at his sides, waiting for the final explosions to come :)) That, and his 'disappearing pencil trick... :o

It's true that any hero is only as good as his nemesis, and Batman has a couple of doozies in this one. Aaron Eckhardt's performance is great, Gary Oldman's Commissioner Gordon is dynamite (especially in Act 3!), Michael Caine is world-class solid (as ever) and Maggie Gyllenhaal is a vast improvement over Mrs. Tom Cruise.

All (or most) films have flaws, though, and this one is no exception. The structure doesn't feel quite right, as the third act comes off as a bit long (actually, though, this seemed less of an issue for me the second time through). The 'sonar vision' stuff was slightly overdone, and Nolan's 'up close, partial view' camera work during the fighting sequences is an acquired taste (although I understand the reasoning behind it).
...I also loved the 'snatch 'n grab' in Hong Kong---looked like it could have come straight out of a mid-Seventies-Era Batman issue B-)

Two great Batman films in a row---for the first time in history...

    I'm in Bat-Heaven :x

P.S. My vote for a B3 villain is The Penguin---not the tortured monstrosity Burton gave us, but the eccentric mobster from the animated series. The Ventriloquist would also be excellent; a nice fit for Nolan's psychological style, and it would dovetail with the Penguin (pun intended), IMO, as these two mob factions struggle to fill the power void left behind by the events of TDK.

I LOVE Frank Gorshin's Riddler. The problem is, that version should stay solely with that actor. It remains more endearing that way. I'd prefer if there was a third film with Riddler but I would be just as happy with a truer-to-form Cobblepot as well...

EXCLUSIVE: David Goyer Says He Knows The Theme For ‘Batman 3’
161 Comments | Published by Shawn Adler on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 12:59 pm.

Whether you agree or not, judging from both fan reaction and near universal critical acclaim, “The Dark Knight” will almost certainly go down as the greatest comic book movie of all-time, with a performance from Heath Ledger that is being hailed as one of the greatest on-screen villains ever.

Now all Christopher Nolan, his brother Jonathan, David Goyer, and an as yet unnamed villain have to do is top it.

“I think that’s the scariest thing – to think, could we come up with a third movie that was as good as the first two? Can we top ourselves?” screenwriter David Goyer asked aloud, almost rhetorically, in a recent conversation with MTV News. “Doing it a third time would be a big proposition.”

Make no mistake about it, though, a third film HAS been discussed, Goyer confessed, revealing that, while nothing is concrete, both a villain and a theme have been bandied about.

“We’ve only talked loosely about it, though, Chris and I,” Goyer said.

Interestingly, it’s the theme, and not the villain, that most interests me, especially given how the latter seems inexorably tied to the former in this new modern Batman universe. (Fear the predominant issue in “Begins” precipitating the introduction of Scarecrow, escalation in “Knight” similarly calling for The Joker.

The fact that Goyer has a theme he wants to keep in mind for a possible “Batman 3” means he also has a direction, a crisis, and, yes, a villain.

    So what is it?

“I have one,” Goyer said laughing. “But I’m not going to tell you. Chris is very particular about that.

“I do think, though, that if there’s not a third film – these two movies stand on their own,” he added. “I think it could go either way.”

Not us. We want a “Batman 3.” So we’ll throw it out to you: Now that you’ve seen “The Dark Knight,” now that you know how it ends, what could be the theme of “Batman 3”? Who could be the villain to fit that theme?

Funny you should mention that as that scene stood out to me as the most "Jokeresque" as well. I also really liked his demented, mocking laugh as he walks in on the mobster meeting early in the film.

As to villains for a possible Batman 3, the more I think of it, the more I hope they move away from the obvious choices. After Ledger's turn in TDK, all future villians will be measured against him and probably be found wanting. It might be safer, and more interesting to move away from the "big names" and put your focus somewhere else. I still think Scarface and Deadshot would be good choices that could easily fit in Nolan's vision.

Well The Dark Knight had its premiere in the UK last night, and there is going to be some unusual press before the film's release. Christian Bale has been lifted for allegedly trying to assault his mother and his sister. The British press are far more vicious than The Joker. This is not going to be pretty.

    Here it is, J.D.:

Batman star Christian Bale arrested over claims he assaulted his own mother and sister

    By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 4:10 PM on 22nd July 2008

Arrested: Chrstian Bale, here last night at the Dark Knight premiere with wife Sibi, is accused of assault

Batman star Christian Bale was arrested today by detectives investigating claims he assaulted two family members.

The Hollywood actor was being questioned by police at a central London police station, sources said.

Bale, 34, is alleged to have lashed out at his mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, in his suite at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: 'A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment.

'He was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody."

Bale was arrested just hours after he attended the first European screening of the new Batman blockbuster, The Dark Knight.

The actor joined co-stars Sir Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart at the Odeon West End cinema in Leicester Square.

The two women, who live in Dorset, went to a Hampshire police station yesterday to make a formal allegation.

The complaint about the actor was then passed to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation.

It's not the only drama to cast its shadow over the premiere.

Peaches Geldof, one of the guests at the screening, was reportedly treated by
paramedics after a suspected drugs overdose at her flat in Islington.

Bale has been married to Sibi Blazic, a former personal assistant to Winona Ryder, for eight years, and they have a three-year-old daughter Emmaline.

Family drama: Bale's mother Jenny, pictured right with the actor in 2000, and sister Sharon, outside her home in Dorset today

Bale was born in Haverfordwest in South Wales, to the late David Bale, an activist and businessman, and his second wife Jenny James, a circus performer.

He has two older sisters, Sharon and Louise, and a half-sister Erin from his father's first marriage.

After leaving Wales aged two Bale spent his childhood moving around, including periods in Portugal, the US, and four years in Bournemouth.

He first appeared on the big screen in 1987 aged just 13 in the Spielberg-directed epic Empire Of The Sun.

I heard on the news this morning, "This just in--actor Christian Bale. . ." I immediately thought, "Oh, no, is HE dead, too? TDK is going to go down as another Misfits!" Well, hurrah, he's alive; but better dead than busted for pounding on a couple of women.

I had a similar experience with BBC 24. The announcer paused dramatically, before explaining what had actually happened. I'm sure they do it on purpose. Bale just left a police station in London in a blacked-out people carrier, with the press pack literally running after him. Luckily for him the the very welcome arrest of Radovan Karadzic has the main attention of the media.

I'd read about this but refrained from posting. These days, I find its just safer to focus on the movies than the sordid personal lives of the stars. Hopefully, it's all just a misunderstanding and not the sign of larger problems for Mr. Bale.

On a lighter note, here's an article on IGN about Batman's cinematic gadgets throughout the years. In trying to be funny, they take a few too many cheap shots at the non-Nolan movies for my liking; exepting Batman & Robin of course, I still have nightmares about that damn Bat Credit Card.

My words exactly, Spec. But if it comes to be true, I have to agree with Alex; it should've been kept within the family.

I don't condone such actions but if Bale did this, some provoking went on somewhere. He just didn't decide to go all Hulk on his family randomly. Sounds very opportunistic with the mom/sister's actions and kind of tacky.

Hopefully a misunderstanding is all it was...

There are always two sides to every argument. So far,we've only read the tabloid version of it. Must be a full moon, first Sean Connery was accused by his ex of starving his son and leaving him pennyless, now Bale as two-face. What's next?

Normally I'd agree with you, but in the case of Radovan Karadzic, it's guilty until the formalities of proving it can be undertaken. As for Bale, silly boy. Superheroes don't punch women in the face. I can't imagine the studio is happy about this kind of publicity either. He's in the middle of a worldwide publicity tour. I'm afraid the first question Bale is going to be asked in every interview is not going to be about Batman. Incidentally, Sky's rather droll presenter, Jeremy Thompson, has taken to calling Bale 'The Cuffed Crusader.' :D

Like I said, it doesn't matter to me if he's guilty or not. *though just the thought of pounding on your own mother and sister does make me feel ill*, I'm still a firm believer that it should have been addressed between the family. No outsiders, no media. Period.

Mom just sabotaged her son's career whether he laid a hand on her or not. Just putting it out there that you hit your mom is morally damaging to the psyche of the public. Like I said ...tacky.

Does anyone know whether or not Bale had a strained relationship with his mother?

It should've been resolved behind closed doors indeed but we're not celebrities either...

And like Spec said that there are two sides to a story; we'll just never hear about it.

Not really sure that Deadshot can carry an entire film on his own. We already got Daredevil with Bullseye in a movie and he didn't carry that film on his own either...there was Kingpin & Elektra. DS's a work for hire and not much else.

That's a fair point. I should have said superheroes don't get arrested for shoving women around. The speculation over here is that Bale did lash out physically, otherwise why would your own family go to the police? He is being investigated for assault. Assault over here means that in one way or another you have put your hands on them and hurt them. But I was wrong to suggest that Bale punched his mum in the face without any evidence and I stand corrected. But Alex is right to say this is a family affair and should have remained such. Of course, if it turns out that's what happened, then you owe me a drink SI. :D

Deadshot may not be lead villain material; but he could be an excellent hired gun or second tier villain, much like Scarecrow in BB, especially if the mobs of Gotham continue to play a role in the next movie. You'd probably have to lose the fanciful red suit, although keeping the eyepiece might be an interesting touch.

As to Bale's relationship with his mother, there isn't a lot out there but he did seem to spend more time with his father who retired from being a commercial pilot to help his son with his film career. Bale's parents were also divorced (his father re-married, he was wed to noted feminist Gloria Steinem until his death in 2003).

According to news outlets, Bale has already been released on bail and the case has been continued until September. No restrictions have yet been imposed on him. Shame on Bale for any poor judgment on his part but it sounds to me like a domestic squabble blown out of proportion - the kind of thing that unfortunately happens all too often; thing is you only read about it when it happens to celebrities. Hopefully it will fizzle away.
