Craig snaps at snapper

The Mirror is reporting that Daniel Craig verbally abused a fan who tried to take a picture of his backside as he left a store.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/showbiz/3am/tm_headline=craig-is-an-a%2D%2D%2D%26method=full%26objectid=18971830%26siteid=89520-name_page.html

DANIEL Craig left a star-struck admirer shaken and stirred by a four-letter outburst - when he realised his posterior had been papped.

The 39-year-old Casino Royale star launched his astonishing verbal attack at London's posh Harvey Nichols store on Wednesday afternoon.

He even squared up to 24-year-old Craig Evans for having the "cheek" to take a discreet camera-phone snap of his rear as he was about to leave the Knightsbridge department store.

AdvertisementAn irate Daniel had to be placated by his producer girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell, who told him to "behave and calm down" before ushering him into a waiting silver Mercedes.

"I was frightened out of my mind," says Craig, from Durham. "I told him I was only taking a picture, that I thought he was a great actor and that I'm a huge James Bond fan.

"After he swore at me I was so shocked and disheartened. I said he had no manners using that sort of language. But Daniel said, 'The only reason I'm f***ing swearing is because I'm f***ed off with you!'"

Craig was on a daytrip to London with his girlfriend and was browsing in Harvey Nicks when he clapped eyes on the Bond star. Wanting a memento of his hero, he took a subtle snap on his camera-phone as Daniel left the store.

"I thought I was going to miss him so I stood by the door - well away from him - and took a picture to show my mates at home," he explains.

"But he stormed over and said: "What the f*** are you doing that for? You've got a f***ing nerve. Can you delete that? Get the f*** out of my face!'

"He squared up to me and he's a lot bigger than me. I was really intimidated. It ruined my day. It was only a picture of his back. I'll never watch a James Bond film with him in again. He was totally out of order."

It's not the first time the actor has blown his top. He allegedly told reporter Johann Hari to "F***" off at the Baftas in February, when asked if he was wearing 007's famous swimming trunks under his tux.

This latest temper tantrum means that dour Daniel knocks Hugh Grant off the top of our Grouch Club list - even though the Love Actually star allegedly threw baked beans over a snapper earlier this week.

Boys, boys, a little decorum please...

Craig didn't seem to handle this situation too well. I don't have any sympathy for the guy taking the picture though. He invaded Craig's privacy. Surely he can't have been that surprised that Craig reacted in that way.

It doesn't sound too far-fetched to me. And I suppose it's the type of story that is easily verifiable. The fact that the story quotes no one but the 'victim' is somewhat suspicious, though.

No photo's either. Not like Hugh Grant being pictured kicking a paparazzi up the a***. :D

Any way you look at it, someone made an ass out of himself in this situation.

With both people having the name Craig, it was almost tricky to follow who was who...

I love the victim statements...they always sound so pathetic.

    "The victim was terrified"
    "DC STORMED up to him"
"After he swore at me I was so shocked and disheartened"
    "I was really intimidated"

I would like to say this to the "victim". Big deal, you're a grown man, you upset another grown man, and you got lipped off. Get over it. Do you honestly think you're the only person on this blue and green marble to get lipped off by someone?

I tell you, some people are such whiners these days. It's obvious to me the guy is milking the whole affair for media attention.

The world can be a cruel place sometimes Mr. Photographer. I suggest you strap on a pair of Depends undergarments and try to enjoy the rest of the ride.

sounds like it could be half true. If I were in Danny's shoes, I would have been way ticked off.

I feel sorry for the fan, but taking pictures without permission, especially of people who have to deal with crap like that every day, is just rude. If he thought he was such a fantastic actor, and he really idolized him, the man would have had more respect for Daniel.

Put yourself if Dan's shoes. He was extremely hesitant to do Casino Royale just because he knew it would bring him THIS.

That Craig, what will he do next?

Now the mystery... which Craig am I talking about??? ;)

In my opinion, I think Craig (Daniel) overreacted. I'm sure the whole thing could've been handled rationally and I'm glad that Setsuki stepped in when she did, so it didn't turn into a brawl.

If that had happened, I would be laughing as I walked back to post here. ;) :D

I'd take the accuracy of this "news story" with a large grain of salt. The British "Press" doesn't exactly have a stellar record when it comes to reality when reporting on Craig.

Priceless :)) Is Mr. Evans a hobbit?
    It ruined my day.

    :#
I'll never watch a James Bond film with him in again.

That's disconcerting. Never saw that one coming :p

Everyone has days when there in a bad mood. I'm sure on another occasion he would have laughed it off. People aren't very googd at keeping their feelings in check.

Heh- this makes me laugh! Did it actually happen? No idea. Do I care if it did? Not at all. Maybe Daniel Craig's a fiery guy; makes no difference to my life, although I do enjoy the occasional story of celebrity anger!

Of course the way to do it is to place the phone to your ear as if you're having a conversation on it, turn so that the lens is facing your target and snap away- but remember to have it on silent or the 'click' noise will be a bit of a giveaway to tetchy movie stars! :D

What I don't get is that the story mentions he was taking a picture of Craig's ass, but never asks why the photographer would think someone wouldn't get a little ticked off at that. Sure, Craig's a movie star and getting your picture taken is par for the course, I think. But typically, most fans want the actor's face in the frame, and it seems to be Craig has been a good sport about that. But this guy's behavior was rude as hell. Would it be appropriate for me to point a camera and snap a picture of Scarlet Johanssen's chest (assuming I could do so without steaming up the lens)?
And this guy says Craig has no manners :)). What's next? A snapshot at the urinal in the men's room? I don't blame Craig a bit. I wouldn't blame him if he decked him.

What I don't get is how can this Craig Evans guy be ****ed off? he shouldn't have taken a picture of Craig, if he'd have asked Craig I'm sure that He would have either been completely different or at least politly decline, its the fact that the guy took a picture of him as he was leaving a shop without even asking him that ticked him off, it would have ticked me off.

Secondly, This Evans guy has sold his story about being "verbally abused" by Craig so has obviously got money for it from some newspaper, so doesn't that make it a good thing? not only has he got a story to tell for the rest of his life but he also got some money for having some rag put his story in print.

Yeah, but it's quite fun. In the cold light of day it's not the sort of thing you should do, but it's the kind of thing that's fun to do. Taking secret spy photos of James Bond... it'd be quite a temptation! Although I find it more funny when they're very low rent celebs- taking spy photos of Lionel Blair (which oddly a couple of my mates have done and shown me, but at completely unrelated times!) is much funnier due to the utter pointlessness of the task! :)

Unfortunately this guy, if this event actually took place, was obviously just really bad at it: I get the feeling he wasn't trying to do it so that Daniel wouldn't see him but just stuck the camera in his face, which is a) very rude, and b) not playing by the rules of Secret Celebrity Snaps. ;)

I think if he'd stuck the camera in Craig's face, it wouldn't have been a problem. It was another part of Craig's anatomy he was photographing, which is what I think ****ed Craig off. And reasonably so, I think.

I'm not surprised by this ( nor was I at his BAFTA gripe). From the get go I have always thought Craig would have a problem with side of Bond. He is a very private man and while he has been pretty good with all his promotional work, it must get tiresome, especially if it is not in your make up.

All the Bond actors have had their moments, with only Pierce and Roger having a particularly good relationship with the media.

I'm sure 9 times out of 10 he is fine with fans, but those meetings don't make good newspaper stories ;)

I do remember seeing a lovely paparazzi snap of Pierce, who had taken offence and was giving the photographer the finger! :D

We all have moments of weakness, but if any Bond actor steps outside their front door and into the public they'd be fools to say "Today no fans are going to notice me." The truth is, they have to steel themselves against the inevitable. Sure, fans need to be respectful, but in the end we each are responsible for own actions - and reactions - regardless of what happens.

Craig needs to be careful and not do a 'Russell Crowe'. We can argue about the rights and wrongs of taking photos of celebrities in public without their permission, but if they didn't want any of that crap they shouldn't have become celebrities in the first place. Craig's too smart to not know what he was getting himself into, so he should just accept it. If he can't then he shouldn't go to public places.

But why? :# Yes, as a celebrity, Craig would know that he would lose some of his privacy, but I don't think that justifies someone secretly taking photos of his backside.

It's hardly that bad tbh. It's not as if someone snuck into his shower and took photos. To compare him to Russell Crowe is stupid as well. DC is too smart to do anything very stupid wheras Russell Crowe is just a thug.

Craig may have fallen off the Moore "Nicest Bond Actor" wagon, but he's got a ways to go till he reaches the depths some of the other Bond actors have plumbed. I'm actually liking the number of posts holding him accountable for his own actions, regardless of the bottom-feeding snapper (oh, is there no end to these puns!). Guess what I'm saying is, call me when he beats his wife (Connery, alledgedly), gets into it on the set with a female co-star (Lazenby and Brosnan), or bad-mouths his employers (Lazenby and Brosnan again, and Connery as well?). So far, Craig's halo seems pretty darn shiny, lol.

Craig has only just recently become a household name. Only time will tell what the paparazzi will dig up on him.
