Interest thread....Madagascar Shirt

Need a quick turn around on this question....who here would want a replica (in their size of course)of the Madagascar shirt that Bond wears in the amazing chase scene in the beginning of the movie? I have found a shop that says they can replicate that pattern AND they will send me swatches for approval before they make any of the shirts. The shirts will run about $75 each plus shipping, and they ship EVERYWHERE. So, that being said if you would plunk down for one of these just reply on this thread....

Shame there is no interest! (wink wink)

OK, I was hoping to get at least ten interested parties before I pay for the prototypes and we hit our goal within 12 hours. I will contact the shop today and tell them to start the process....here is how it will transpire:

    1) They will begin experimenting with swatches. Meanwhile they will send me several "blank shirts" to find out best drape, fit, cut, look etc of the raw shirt. I assume we should do these in silk? I will photograph the choices.

    2) Once several swatches are created they will send me the "board" so we can choose the best approximation of the pattern.

    3) Based on the raw shirt, fabric, and pattern they will create a prototype shirt which they will send to me. I will photograph it, wear it etc and if we are all happy then they will make double the number we order (if we order ten they will make twenty etc).

Keep in mind this will be a long process BUT I think in the end we will be VERY happy with the results.

    Dave,

That sounds great, however the movie shirt does not look like silk to me. I'll have to review it again, but it looks like cotton to me.

That is EXACTLY the type of feedback I want from people....silk, cotton, poly, linen....what does it look like to people...?

I would guess cotton but I will findout for sure later this morning

I would go with cotton too. Remember that a few of us would like to buy multiples too. Nice one Dave for getting this one rolling {[]

Agree about cotton. Doesn't look like silk or linen.

Actually if you compare it to Hawaiian shirts it's much closer in look and fit to rayon than cotton or silk. It clings just a bit much and doesn't look stiff like cotton. Also it looks a little more substantial than smooth silk and too smooth to be raw silk.

    My vote is for rayon.

I would definitely be interested, and perhaps in more than one, as long as the final product is decent looking, although I'm sure with David(Mantis) being in charge of this, it will be nothing less than perfect. Look forward to seeing how this all progresses.

Too kind, sir. I have someone researching the exact fabric type that they used in the movie...stay tuned!

Count me in for a couple of shirts Mantis!

Was thinking about trying to do this myself, but you are the man with the connections.

I agree on Cotton or Rayon BTW

    Cheers,

I've just rewatched the sequence---again, based upon my interest in this thread! ;) ---and I agree that it could be cotton...but it has none (or few) of the tell-tale 'wrinkles' one might expect to see after extended/strenuous wear. Rayon makes sense as a compromise, IMRO.

BTW...if you can accurately replicate this shirt---in glorious 2XL---count me in B-)

Yeah, but you have to remember how many different shirts were used to film those scenes. Not to mention the fact that some of those scenes were of stuntmen doubling for DC. I realize that some old time Hawaiian shirts were made of rayon and silk, but that is not what this is. It was a custom made shirt for James Bond and it's not Hawaiian.

I'm very tempted to say I'll have one right off the bat but I'll have to see - it will, ultimately, come down to cost. I'm so glad that David is in charge of this as I know he'll strive to get the best shirt made.

I'm sure you're right. Still, it's very much an Hawaiian 'style' shirt, IMRO, albeit certainly more subdued in pattern. I'm quite sure the filmmakers made eight dozen of them, worn both by Craig and his doubles...and each shot featured a relatively fresh shirt (appropriately distressed and soiled for continuity's sake) to look as good as possible in the fleeting moment of screen time allotted, for the shot in question. I was actually referring to the various close-ups of Craig himself wearing the shirt. Perhaps it's all about starch ;)

All professionals involved did a masterful job---especially if the garment in question is basic 100% cotton {[]
