Plus it's cheaper and more convenient, from a logistical standpoint, to be able to get these shots north of the Mediterranean, I'm sure.

I hope the rumours about Algeria being a 'location' in #22 are true; it would go a long way toward supporting Eva Green's spoiler, from last November, in which she said that Vesper's French-Algerian boyfriend would play a part in the next Bond adventure.

Just a little side not here. For anyone that has access to Sports Illustrated. The August 27th issue has a nice picture from the race. It's on pages 12 & 13. I'm not sure, but there is a guy with a very nice handheld camera. Not sure if he's part of the B22 team or not. You can also do a Google Image search of this and get some very neat shots from past races.

True, very true. It's all starting to make a lot of sense now. I wonder who they will get to play the French-Algerian boyfriend if that's true. Oh, so many questions and not enough answers!!!

The picture I speak of, the one in Sport Illustrated is in this thread:

It's the fourth picture down (the first one not showing Craig. Look at the middle of the picture. There's a guy sitting on the ground in whites shorts and a blue t-shirt. He's above the jockey dressed in orange and white? Does he loook like he could be part of the B22 team?

Apparently some lensing for #22 has taken place this past week in Madrid, Spain:

They certainly don't hold back. I suspect one or two of those riders are still feeling the pain.

Okay I'll be the first to say it, "If this is in the movie how long until a group like PETA jumps all over this scene for being cruel to the horses?"

Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those PETA types but you just know they're going to be all over this.

Yes I expect the papers will mention the animal cruelty aspect, but that's the race, not the people filming it. (The Palio di Siena.)
The foot chase will be in a Pinewood version of underground tunnels below Siena.
Bond has ridden a horse in Afghanistan in TLDaylights.
In future Bond films bring back a Male M actor,
and have a good storyand characters.

As a vegetarian who can't even watch the Grand National I wish Eon hadn't included this. I'm sure they don't condone animal cruelty and there are worse things to get animated about but...:#

I'm a farmers boy and I don't condone cruelty to animals either. That is - unless they kick first:v
If a bull kicks you (well, perhaps not YOU, but the others ...:D)hit them back on the 2nd most painfull place; the nose. Kicking back at the most painfull place is not only counterproductive, it is kamikaze territory :))

That first lap is a good establishing shot IMO. I hope the chase has some better direction than the one in Madagascar, which looked straight out of a generic action flick.

I like the event's 'Old World' traditional flavour...just the sort of thing in whose neighborhood James Bond ought to be doing his '00' business B-)

Well it certainly didn't take long for the animal rights activists to jump all over this. According to the article, they've been all over this race for years and they're disappointed with its inclusion in the upcoming Bond flick.

I think some people need to remind themselves of a couple things right now...

    1) They have no idea the context to which the race will be included in the movie. Perhaps the whole race and how the characters in the film react to it will show that EON actually looks negatively on this type of race as well. We have no idea how the race will be used in the movie at this point -positive or negative.

    2) Just because something is included in a movie it in no way means the movies production company supports that type of behavior. There have been hundreds of movies over the years that include racism, war, rape, spousal abuse, child abuse -you name it, the list could go on and on. Just because something is part of a movie doesn't automatically mean the company that produced the film is in support that type of behavior.

By all means animal rights activists should continue voicing their negative opinions of this race. However, they should at least have the decency to wait and see how it gets tied into the film before anyone starts to jump to conclusions about EON's perceived value systems.

Contact Music is reporting that animal rights activists are up in arms...

When aren't the animal rights people all up in arms??? I'm for animal rights and all, but we must remember that when we find something cruel in someone else's culture, its not cruel to them, especially if they have been doing it for centuries. There are countries where they practice scarification, on young girls (human beings), and guess what: cruel to us, coming into womanhood for them. We can't force our perspectives onto other cultures with different customs and I hardly think that people will take it personally if this race is in a Bond film.

Alternatively if someone believes that something is strongly, morally right then why shouldn't they confront wrongs wherever they see them? Why does simply being across a different border make that moral suddenly 'wrong'?

I'm reminded of the first time I saw a bullfight---in Zaragoza, Spain, in 1981---and realized, for the first time, just how broad a cultural gap can be. I was dating a Spanish girl at the time, and we had some heated debates about that kind of thing...of course, she was a socialist, so we fought about that, too :D
