Bond's Lighter

Does anyone know the brand and style of lighter that Bond receives as a best man gift from Felix in License to Kill?

It was a Dunhill Unique in plain flat silver. They make the Unique still but it is patterned and not plain. You should be able to find a plain one quite easily though as they pop up on Ebay every now and then.

You should even be able to find one with the original inner box that was seen in the film quite easily. Dunhill used that same design for at least ten years. They made the Unique gas in plain silver for over twice that long. Plus you can get the flame to at least twelve inches too {[] The engraving on it was just plain old script from what I remember.

I'm guessing you want the "real" version of the prop (I'm also guessing that's screen used) lighter displayed in your other post?

Per the staff at Dunhill, they never issued the Unique with a smooth finish. Unfortunately, most everyone who worked there circa LTK is gone, but the gentleman I corresponded with thinks it may have been made for the film as Dunhill had a long-standing relationship with EON.

Dunhill are very much mistaken. They did issue a plain finish in silver, it had a very large hallmark on the reverse. I have owned two and sold them both on Ebay around 3 or 4 years ago, one was engraved as per LTK and fetched a princely sum indeed {[] The other got £110 :(

Can someone please tell me about the Black Ronson lighter that Bond uses?

Which Chapters of which books does it describe the lighter in?

Is it anything like a Ronson "Comet" from the 60's?

Do a search in the literary section. There is many a thread that goes into great detail on this.

Does anyone have a pic of the Dunhill Unique silver lighter that was featured in LTK that can be posted to this thread?
I'm trying to locate one here in the States but I need a pic of it to show to shops in my area.
Also, does anyone know for certain, what font was used for engraving?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Update: Over the past two months I have asked 15 reputable Dunhill dealers in my area; I've even shown them a pic from the film and not one of them has seen this Dunhill model in a plain flat silver finish. They all have the current model with the lines, but not the one from LTK. I must agree with other members here, it was probably just made in a flat silver finish for engraving for the film and not available to the general public. Bummer! :# Maybe, it was just issued in the U.K.

It was in the 1995 catalogues over here along with the barley and lines version, plain finish with large hallmarks down the one side. Maybe they discontinued it quickly as they did with the Unique Sports TND models.

I have not been able to find one clear image of it or publicity still anywhere. Not even on google or yahoo images. Nothing. I also checked my extensive collection of Bond magazines and books. The only thing I found in one of them was that Timothy Dalton asked Cubby Broccoli to auction off the original for charity, which they did. However, there were no pics with that article or who won the auction. I think I will probably solve the riddle of the Sphynx before I find this lighter. :)) However, the search continues...
