Been to two events recently ...


First being 'Jersey Boys' .

Absolutely loved it and have been listening to Four Seasons songs ever since. Went with a friend for her birthday and I'd previously had no interest in seeing it but it was brilliant. I shall be going back again. An indication of how good it was? Mid week performance, tube strike in London, huge theatre filled, everyone up dancing and standing ovation at the end. Highly recommended.

My second 'event' was the Britains Got Talent Tour at Wembley arena.

I took my daughter to see the show and it really is a case of what you see is what you get. All the finalists ( and yes, Susan Boyle did perform ) ) doing their thing. No bells and whistles but it was a very pleasant evening all the same.

Side note here .... Can someone please put Susan Boyle out of her misery? She walked on like a robot, missed her cue and had to start again and looked very uncomfortable throughout. What annoyed me was to hear the media going on about her getting a standing ovation!! Well, all the acts got a standing ovation but most of them were louder than Susan Boyle's X-( ... take a bow Stavros Flatley )

Free tickets to see Spurs, currently heading the league, against newly promoted Birmingham City.

A bit of a yawn first half as Spurs did their thing of playing like England; fluffed chances and much possession but no killer instinct. Crouch came on second half and that changed things, well, he scored. City equalised within five minutes, than a deep in injury time winner from Lennon.

That said, second half was dominated by a few splashes of coffee I accidently dropped on some old boy sitting in front of me as I made my way back to my seat; got scowls from his son and, amidst belligerent atmoshpere, imagined it all kicking off after... happily they were one of the types who leave early to get to the car park before the others, so I avoided it... Shame they missed the goal though.

I managed to get tickets for the Bolton vs Liverpool game on Saturday. It was described as a 'great game for the neutral'.....not many of those in the ground though !

Liverpool managed a 3-2 victory....it was a woeful performance by Liverpool though....Bolton only got over the halfway line twice...and scored both times X-(

The game was changed by Bolton having a man sent off (Davis)...he seemed quite upset at the time...as did the Bolton fans...but I really have no idea why...TV replays show that it was a clear foul and a bookable offence, no question.

Liverpool were poor....but we won....but we really have to improve...and quickly !!

slightly off-topic but here we are always joking about UK's traditional lack of good goalkeepers.

We have here the problem, that we have 5 brilliant goalkeepers in the Bundesliga (Enke, Adler, Wiese, Neuer and Hildebrand who ruined his carrer by going to Valencia and warming the bench for 2 years).

Now, there was the F1 race over the weekend and Raikonen dropped his champagne bottle to one of the mechanics, who caught it. The german commenter said, that this guy should hire for the UK goal immediately )

True enough, Bondtoys! Mind you, Burnley's keeper did alright for most of the Chelsea match, he's a big lad who kept out a few balls even though they capitulated 3-0 in the end.

Ballack, you are absolutely correct, unfortunately. When he was needed, he always let us down. I can't stand him for a very long time!

You can mention 1966 as much as you want. The last victory against us and well undeserved

Saw Snow Patrol last night in NYC. The band performed a high-energy set that included pretty much all of their best-known songs. Highlights for me were "If There's A Rocket, Tie Me To IT" (the opener) and "Shut Your Eyes." Most interesting musically was the use of two percussionists, who often played in synch and pounded the drums in one-TWO-one-TWO fashion, rather than a more typical one-two-three-FOUR. That effect is apparent on their recordings, but even more so live.

Couple of minor gripes. First, the show was sloppy technically. Mics and amps seemed to be more troublesome than one would expect, and at one point in a song everything went haywire and the band simply stopped (they replayed the song in the encore). Second, while Gary Lightbody is a very engaging and funny guy on stage, sometimes he's a little too engaging for me. A few times, his constant bantering with the audience left me wishing he would just play a song already.

All in all, though, it did what any good concert should do: leave you smiling, and make you want to listen more to the band.

Last night I saw Florence & The Machine at the Manchester Academy.

Well.......one of the best gigs I have EVER been too. Florence has a voice that has no equals, Alison Goldfrapp may have a slightly better range but Florence has a power to her voice that is incredible.....it's a real 'force of nature'.
She ran through her entire debut album, plus the B-side to "Rabbit Heart".

It's very easy to see why she has been compared to Kate Bush, there is a sense of the dramatic to her work and stage presence..........and a truly wonderful songwriter. It also helps that she has legs that go on forever :x

She returns to Manchester in December.....I HAVE to get tickets.

Just to add.....do kids never watch gigs nowadays ? Everybody around me seemed to be watching the gig through their mobile phones

went to TAKE BACK THE NIGHT here at my university. It's a wonderful organization what works against hate crimes and rape, and the candle light march is to symbolize how many people are willing to work until these horrible things are gone from this world.

Went to see The Blues Band at the Manchester Lowry on Thursday night. A great gig by a great band - anyone who like blues music should try and see these at some time, or buy a cd at least )

Last night I went to watch Little Boots at a new venue for me...'53 Degrees' in Preston. It's only a small venue - it holds 1500 max - but that means you get a great view from wherever you stand - right at the front in my case

There were meant to be two support acts - Ellie Goulding and Erik Hassle. Alas, Ellie must have been busy elsewhere because only Erik took the stage He's from Stockholm and his music was very typical of a pop-rock band from that region. Ok - but instantly forgettable. I really wanted to see Ellie though - I've heard great things about her and it would have been great to see her live.

Anyway.....Little Boots was nothing short of brilliant !

And she is a 'short' girl too - no more than 5 feet tall, but what she lacks in height, she more than makes up for in talent ! And legs She wore a 'spangly' top and very short shorts :x and high heels - and boy can she sing !! I don't think I've ever seen such a spartan set though - a few lights at the back of the stage and a giant black skull was all she had. She ran through every track on her debut album plus one new song called "Echoes" - which was very 'Kate Bush-like'.

I look forward to seeing her again very soon.
