Now actonsteve, while I also love Solitaire, I would not put her in the same league as Natalya. I believe Natalya had a tragic quality that Solitaire couldn't match. Also, Natalya came off as a lot more independent and wasn't afraid to speak for herself even in situations where her life was at risk. I think LALD would've been very interesting if Solitaire had killed Kananga given the fact of how he was using her.
Also, Natalya was in a better movie, IMO, so that helped a lot. The fact that Natalya was intelligent, outspoken, not afraid to fight and so inspirational puts her eons above Solitaire for me at least.

You are joking? Solitaire had a trapped quality.Her fate was decided from birth because that is what the cards said. She believed the superstition and so perpetuated her own myth.It wasnt until James Bond showed her it was all rubbish that she began to change. Its called character progression.
Natalya has a very good first twenty minutes where she survives the Severneya explosion then disappears from the film. Her dialogue is laughable in places "Boys with toys!" Thats cliched stuff. And interceding in the Bond/Mishkin argument just doesnt ring true. She isnt written all that great.

See above. her dialogue was definitely overwrought and inappropriate for some scenes. And in the famous beach scene - its what the writers think she should say rather then what would say...

Natalya Simonova is a nice character but completely unmemorable. She really has nothing to do in the story once they leave Russia. Perhaps thats why they gave her such "feisty" dialogue ala Jinx because she lacked a persoanlity.
Solitaire and Jane Seymour had class. She was the character to the tips of her toes. You caught her fear, uncertainty, nievety and the fact that she was useed by both sides.
So sad to see Solitaire gone...I can't believe it. I totally agree we should've seen Natalya gone first...oh well, what can I say? Let the masses speak and let the votes role. Now, back to the game...

Loeff, not even I am that diabolical.
And acton, I was going to say that Solitaire was also a tragic character but didn't. I just don't think the acting with Solitaire was as convincing as that with Natalya. Natalya seemed much more emotional and not as "damsel-in-distrees"-ish, because even though she was caught in many situations she didn't have that air about her.
Usually afterward she would be a key player in the situation, such as disarming the Goldeneye sattelite, finding Boris in Cuba and commandeering the helicopter. In some ways, I agree, the beach scene is a little forced, but after recently watching it, I see it as a nice piece of dialogue that really shows how the massacre at Severnaya impacted Natalya's outlook on life. In some ways, it's a little warped because obviously Bond has to kill Trevelyan, but she has been wrapped up in all this turmoil.
I just feel that Natalya's so overlooked in the Bond universe (and am glad that a fanfiction of all things was dedicated to her and Bond's relationship) because, IMO, she's one of the greatest Bond girls of all time, but no one seems to notice.
Don't get me wrong, I think Solitaire is also a great character but the whole tarot thing makes her more of a fantasy character. Natalya, to me, was a little more realistic.

Is there any point in introducing new Bond girls now? You're going to have Jenny Flex, who has a blink and you'll miss it part in AVTAK (sorry JFF ), rating higher than a bona fide A-list Bond babe like Solitaire. Seymour was in the papers today, looking fabulously hot at 56, by the way.

LALD is a minor classic. GE is a successful runaround.

I agree that GE was better than LALD, but I think that Solitaire was alot better than Natlaya. Natalya has always been overshadowed for me by Xenia.
