James Bond is British, it should stay that way. What's more, I am not a big fan of the Americanization of Bond. I like the Bond films where he is doing his duty for Queen and country in exotic locales....it's alright for Felix to pop up occasionally, but Bond is British. Just my 2 pence.

Just an observation not an opinion: Funny how it's accepted for Brits, Aussies, etc to play American charactors (even iconic ones) but it's still taboo (at least around these parts) for an American or other non UK actor to play Bond. Now for an opinion: I personally would have no problem with an American actor playing Bond if he could pull off a perfect British accent and was otherwise "perfect" for the role. That being said, as long as there are British actors out there who fit the bill there's no real reason to cast anyone else and needlessly ruffle any feathers (there was enough backlash with a blond Bond).
I think in some ways Brozzer was an American Bond.
Technically yes, if Brosnan had become an American Citizen he would technically be the first American Bond....but as we all know he was born in Ireland and came to Enland as a boy. Ironically, if Patrick McGoohan would have been cast as Bond in Dr. No an American would have been the first cinematic Bond (an American actor did play Bond on TV in Casino Royale but the Bond charactor was changed to be an American, so that doesn't count IMO). McGoohan was born and raised in New York State of Irish parents and later went to England to pursue his acting career.
I loved McGoohan in his many Colombo appearences -{
Brosnan from his work on American TV, Is basically an American Actor, Have you heard him trying to do an Irish Accent.

I think a better question would be "Who should star in a Bond-like American franchise?" if we were to see a US agent in some comparable style franchise, but I don't think there should ever really be an American Bond or a blatant American rip off of the Bond series.
I have no suggestions either.
Well Jack Reacher is the closest American James Bond type action hero that I can think of.
He's a 6'5 Military cop - who gets discharged.... (in questionable circumstances) and then lives 'off the grid' so to speak - usually stumbling into some sort of misadventure.... he's a character created by Lee Child and is thoroughly entertaining... always gets the girl - and always wins the fight.
The only downer to this series is the current casting (finally turning him into a movie franchise) and that is the ridiculous casting of Tom Cruise.... I mean REALLY.... he's supposed to be 6'5 for F**ks sake.
SERIOUSLY peed off with this, as I am an avid Lee Child fan, read all of his books, and he swore that he would NEVER cast Tom Midget X-(
sorry... rant over!

My Hubby is seriously hacked off with the casting as well. He loves the Jack Reacher novels. What a dreadful piece of casting ! From what I can gather, Cruise bought the rights so he probably cast himself . We all known in TC's mind he's 6'5" but really its only his ego thats massive !!!!

Jack Reacher rocks! I know you've got good taste Lexi! I've read them all and have never been disappointed with a single page. A brilliant series of books which would seriously do well visually. Can't think of a 6' 5" 18 stone actor to play him, but I could get out of the shop for a few weeks and have a crack at it (well, 6' 1" and 18 stone'ish)... The one thing you couldn't do without on the screen would be the guy's size - that's the whole thing which makes the character. He's big, not too pretty and as smart as a fox.

I recall hearing Child interviewed in the UK and he said his perfect image of a movie Reacher would be Lawrence Dallaglio.
Child's ryder was, of course, that Dallaglio would need acting lessons.
Now, call me picky but surely it can't be any harder to get Dallaglio to learn how to act than it can to get Cruise to appear to be large, intimidating and physically invulnerable...
Last silly idea along these lines was Clint Eastwood's casting of Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar with the suggesting he could successfully carry off Pienaar's phyisicality and leadership. He could not, and as a rugby player, appeared like a boy playing in a man's team.
Which I suspectv will be the effect Cruise will have as Reacher.
I have to admit these Books have passed me By but I'll keep an eye out for them and try and Imagine instead of a (huge Six foot five, 18 stone, Ex-Army Mountain of a man,). A short, White toothed, Control freak/Model. )
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I'm surprised that you like him, as he is very Craig like in my view. He would make sense in terms of some kind of continuation of an newly evolved look for Bond. Again a very fine actor, but not really Bondian for my tastes. I'd hope for a return to a more classic 'tall dark & handsome look.
He looks a bit Gustav Graves really, I always thought from Inglorious B***** that he would have been a good Ian Fleming, has that arrogant look down pat.
That youtube thing is a bit thrown together, too much of his X-men film.
Ah, Tthe Spitfire, Remindes me of my Great Uncle Tiberius "Tranny" Thunderpussy, who flew during WW2. Here's a snapshot the the Guy checking out his equipment before some action, Although he was in his "civies" at the time.
I remember asking him was he afraid of crashing, He just Smiled and said He didn't Mind goingdown, Brave Man.
And apparently very popular in the POW Camp he ended up in.
Now to get started on the Messerschmitt 109, just like my old Uncle Hans " Adequate Flyer" Von Thunderpussy
The first Pilot ever to land his plane on a landing strip miles away from his own airfield,
an Idea later adopted by Ryanair.

I can't take him and his falsetto voice seriously as an actor. The Social Network was maybe the only exception. He just strikes me as a little shallow/casual for an actor. Musically, never had a problem with him.
I don't want to see an American playing Bond. Bond is British and that's final!
(Oh, before anyone accuses me of being Xenophobic....my Mom is American, I love the states, visit there at least once a year, just don't want to see 007 being American, OK?)

Or Hugh Jackman - buffed up and tall enough. It's not just Cruise's height, he doesn't look great when a bit rough, see War of the Worlds.
