    Very sad news. In the interviews on the Bond DVDs Lois Maxwell seemed a great, fun character with whom to work and she played the role written very well indeed.

    As Sir Roger has said: "She was always fun and she was wonderful to be with".

    Oh my god. That was a huge shock for me. :'( Anyway, what can I say? She was simply the greatest Moneypenny of all time. I haven't really seen her in anyting else (I don't remember her in Lolita) so for me, she'll always be one of the greatest cinematic characters of all time. :x RIP. -{

    When I heard this news, my heart literally sank. Lois Maxwell was such an outstanding lady, on and off the screen. It almost feels like I lost a personal friend, even though we never met. :'(

    My thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family.

    Lois, you were the best! -{

    Relive some of Lois's greatest moments as Miss Moneypenny here.

    My condolences to Miss Maxwell's family. She was just wonderful as Moneypenny--classy, funny, and darned good-looking to boot. Ian Fleming told her that he envisioned Moneypenny as having the most kissable lips imaginable, and she fit the bill. There's no finer tribute than that!

    My favourite Moneypenny...

    I was at a Bond convention in 1990 and she sat behind me for the showing of For Your Eyes Only and she was chuckling away and cracking jokes with a very elderly Geoffrey Keene (Minister of Defence) before the film started and singing its praises when it ended.

    Lovely lady

    Roger Moore gave a lovely tribute to Lois on the radio only minutes after learning of her death.

    You can listen to it here.

    Roger and Lois had been close friends for years. He is no doubt distraught by this... :(

    I was at a private dinner with her about ten years ago or so and she told some great stories (Bond-related and not) ... between scotches and chain smoking. Afterward I was marvelling to the host what a great evening it had been and he commented that courtesy his frequent meetings with her, it was clear that with every telling, the stories got a little longer, the secrets a little more revealing, etc. and that it all should be taken with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, it was a night I will never forget and the tales--true or not--are stlll fondly remembered.

    Some of our UK members are likely to find this offensive and even I will admit that I don't generally care for term, but Lois was one helluva classy broad. She will be sadly missed.

    That is a wonderful picture, TeeHee.

    Thanks for sharing it.

    Lois Maxwell's Moneypenny represented the only real home that James Bond ever had.

    Before Bond went to see the Old Man he would share some flirtatious moments with an old friend who, as someone once pointed out, is "the only woman Bond won't sleep with."

    When Bond tossed his hat on the rack it was more than a stylistic touch, it was a mark of turf.

    Lois Maxwell, always warm, ever charming, was the girl next-door, whose destiny was not to become another Bond conquest. No, she became 007's closest female friend and ally.

    There is not a Bond-fan alive who grew up on the series who did not feel a sense of joy whenever Moneypenny appeared. She represented an unbroken continuity throught the years.

    The Bonds would come and go...as did her beloved M...but Lois Maxwell was always on the job (secretly running MI6, as a matter of fact).

    Whenever Bond greeted Moneypenny everything was just right in the Bond universe, for, you see, Moneypenny became a touchstone not just for Bond and the series, but for all of us as well.

    Farewell to a lovely lady.

    RIP Lois, an important part of the Bond family. By the warmth with which Roger Moore spoke of her it seems she was also a remarkable lady. My condolences.

    If anything can bring me back to the boards after hiatus, it's certainly this bombshell of shocking, saddening and understandable news. I remember her greatly, and far more vividly than anyone else who's played the role. A great absence in the world has appeared. Let's all celebrate the great work of Lois Maxwell this week and forever onward. :'(

    Let us hope that the next film is dedicated in memoriam to her.

    Lois Maxwell, was, indeed, the best Moneypenny.
    As I stated in the off topic forum, I cannot read a Bond novel without picturing her in the role. I remember her from Lolita and an early episode of the Avengers in which she played the
    villainous nurse opposite Honor Blackman's Cathy Gale and Patrick Macnee's John Steed. Always classy, elegant and intelligent, she made Fleming's creation come to life. She will be missed.

    Wow she had quite a life, living to be 80.

    She really got around acting wise from radio, to television to films, not many performers can say that about themselves. I would have loved to have meet her, she sounded like quite a person.

    RIP Los Maxwell

    Naively, you don't really expect these things to happen, RIP Penny. With the original core cast almost gone, it really makes you reflect on how long the series has been around and not to forget the series pioneers from the other side of the camera, Cubby, Harry, Terrence Young, Bob Simmons and Maurice Binder.
