Casino Royale Opening Titles and Title Music

When I saw CR's opening titles for the first time at the cinema - I thought, this is fantastic. Completely different approach from previous Bonds. I also thought Chris Cornell/David Arnold's theme was great.

Does anyone else agree?

It's one of my favourite title sequences and theme songs...distinctly 'retro' yet different from what's come before, endlessly rewatchable and extremely cool. I love Craig's walk toward the camera as the credits declared: "Based on a novel by Ian Fleming" B-) and the final shot of his face before we're tranported to the jungles of Africa...

I do hope the naked lady silhouettes will return for #22, though ;% :x

Yes, but then I thought that all the way through the film as well :D

The titles were great, yes, and the "Based on the novel by Ian Fleming" is obviously one of the best things about the entire film; but I still would have preferred a few nudie women throwing some shapes...

I remember having this same discussion with a mate a few months back.

He said he really missed seeing the girls struting their stuff. I said that I enjoyed the fight sequences with cartoon characters - and that I felt that it was more stylish.

If I had to have women, I would have had one woman character - where when Bond was fight the goons she was stnading on the side.

I'm not a big fan of the song but I really loved the title sequence. I think it was fantastic. I have my criticisms of CR, but in this regard, I think that the producers did a great job. :D

Like others, I have always greatly appreciated the naked lady silhouettes (which I hope will make a comeback) however in this case I didn't mind the break from tradition in the slightest. :D It was just a great sequence.

Me too, although I couldn't help but wish it was Brosnan or Clive Owen walking towards the camera. :p :))

Then you must be very happy with the TSWLM title sequence (especially near the end) :D

I was never dissatisfied with any of Binder's title sequences---regardless of the era or lead actor---but I really think he peaked during Moore's tenure...and TSWLM, the peak of Moore's run, is a dandy, for sure :x {[]

I never really get why the theme music is viewed so negatively. I thought it was quite exciting and often find myself humming it.

When I watched it in the theatre, I disliked it. The song lacked the punch that needed to go along with the visuals. After repeated views I enjoy it more, and the visuals really are cool and exciting, but the song is just not good or exciting enough to keep up with the visuals.

I also would like the return to women for 22.

The animated title sequence blew me away the first time I saw it, avoiding the tired and cheesy cliché’ of naked women dancing in the nude against a red background or in the water. But the musical score sounded too cotemporary and generic but I wouldn't say it was the worst Bond score ever and was miles better than DAD's score.

It's great. If anything I would have liked them to go a bit further with the style change, but it still looks great. I've found the sound quality of the song varies hugely- on my stereo telly it sounds awful- all echoey and tinny, whereas on my surround system it sounds full and bassy.

It is certainly one of my favorite opening sequences in a Bond film. It does a great job not only telling the audience that this is not the same old Bond. It also shows pretty clearly what kind of a Bond DC is going to be.

You know, it would help if you had quoted me by name. ;) What can I say, one man's dream is another man's nightmare. ;) I recently rewatched Sin City and I was reminded that IMO Owen would have made a brilliant Bond. :D

I loved the stylized playing-card titles. I thought they were fantastic and forgot all about Binder's nudes. I do think we can afford to keep this development a one-off though, and frankly would welcome a return to the classic Binder-type silhouettes for Bond 22.

As regards the ending with Bond walking towards the camera, I found that shot unflattering for Craig. Frankly, not his best facial expression (there's a fine line between an unflinching stare-down that says "I'm a mean no nonsense killing machine" and a prolonged frown suggestive of constipation).

The song haunted me for a while after seeing the movie, but, though it remains one of my favourites whenever I hear it, in the long run I find it to be relatively forgettable.
