I've got tons of James Bond Reference books but would you say 'James Bond: The Legacy' is worth getting, what does it look like inside, how many photographs/text etc.

I would certainly recommend The Legacy. I haven't yet seen the new encyclopedia, but the Legacy is the best bond book that I have. . . The photos are numerous and very impressive. There is a good text as well, but its best aspect is undoubtedly the photos and it is worth owning for this alone!

It is basically a vivid, colourful tribute to the legacy of Bond. ie. the effect on the world's pop culture over the first 40 years of Bond.

I agree with Golrush.I think the new encyclopedia is very nice,and it's a fine reference book,but the Legacy is a definitive history of the James Bond film series and is simply outstanding.The Legacy features detailed inside information about the making of these films that the various encyclopedias-including the newest one-can only touch on.If possible, get them both.

You might also consider adding Bond Girls Are Forever to the collection,as well.:)

'The Incredible World of 007' by Philip Lisa and Lee Pfeiffer is also terrific - it covers all the films up to the beginning of the Brosnan era. It was published in the early 90s and I didn't even know that it existed until I stumbled across it in a charity shop! Pretty lucky I was, as the pictures and interviews etc. contained within are terrific.

Damn, I wish I hadn't read this thread, now there's a new book to get that I wasn't even aware of : James Bond Encyclopedia ( I already have the Legacy - bought it half price at £18 from Asda a couple of years ago).

Anyway had a quick scoot around the net and it seems the James Bond Encyclopedia is £25, with WHSmith doing it at 30%discount which is £17.50, which I though was good. Then I found Tesco doing it for £15.99 (save 36% = £9.01) - which is a baragain.

But I have now found it for £11.99 delivered if anyone is interested at

Hehe, I'll have to wait a little while longer for the encyclopedia as I am very stingy! I haven't paid more than five pounds for any of my Bond books! For me it's all about waiting until I find a fantastic and ridiculously cheap bargain! And it works. . . I have about six or seven Bond reference books and none of them consting more than a fiver is pretty good going in my opinion!

I have about 30 odd Bond related subject books, and out of all them i would rate "the legacy", "James Bond: A celebration" , "The Incredible world of 007" and "The most Famous car in the world" as the most essential books.

The Legacy is a great coffee table book, very well written too. A bit heavy (in actual weight) for casual reading though. The Art of Bond, published to tie in with Casino Royale's release last year, is smaller and cut from the same cloth. Craig pics show him to be the runt of the litter mind.

As impressive as it is there's really very little material in Cork's 007 encyclopedia(other than the entries on Craig and the Eon Casino Royale) that isn't already covered with as much detail in Steven Jay Rubin's The Complete James Bond Movie Encylopedia.In fact,in some instances Rubin-in my opinion,anyway- actually provides more information than Cork's book.This one has a slightly longer page count than the Cork encyclopedia and also has plenty of photographs.These two volumes make excellent companion pieces.
