MI6 Declassified magazine review

Just got it a couple of days ago... very dissapointed in the content. I was looking forward to a new Bond magazine since the 007 mag changed format and became an online thing and the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang magazine that sort of replaced it never really fulfilled its promises. Well I guess I will have to wait a bit longer. MI6 Declassified - Issue #1 doesn't give much to sink ones teeth into. Very few pictures and none that have not been seen before. No insight on Bond 22. Few interesting features. The Casino Royale stuff would have been interesting a year ago. Now, it's just not interesting anymore. The Hingson feature is just of no interest for those of us who are not into the young Bond bit. And who cares about a story on the unknown models used in the video games. Let's hope that the editors have got the real stuff coming up soon. There is a market and a need for a good Bond mag... unfortunately issue 1 of MI6 Declassified is not it... yet!

very dissapointed.
understand your frustration, and agree with you that there is a "hole" in the market for a Bond mag worthy of the term...
But can't agree with (all) your criticisms...
firstly the piece on the second unit in CR is definitely fresh, and quite well written, giving a feel for the work these "unsung heros" do, although I suspect Vic Armstrong did as much as anyone to "expose" their efforts...
Secondly, while you're right it's very light on pics, we all know how difficult it can be getting Eon to ok pics (cue Moderators with a "can't park that here sunny, move along"...)
Thirdly, nice to see some homage to John McLusky: I grew up with the (re-run) of the cartoons in the Express, and that famous, cig-smoking cameo has always been the image I ascribe to the Fleming stories...
McL died almost a year to the month, so a fitting tribute I thought.. {[]
You can't go anywhere Bond without falling over a Higson dustcover...talk about Day-Rigour (mortis?)...I'm kinda with you on this, but fashion is fashion...
How anyone can turn away Nat Bedignfield and Maria Menounos (in leathers) is beyond me... ;%
finally, the Madsen interview is entertaining, and I learned a few things (though no doubt you knew he was responsible for the fag advert and the bicycle gag....)
However, the one massive no-no for me is the Johnny English rubbish...I love a joke like the next guy, and believe one has to be able to laugh at one's self (or one's hero)... )
But I hate Oz-Tin Powers, and hold JE in almost the same disdain... only a used-up failure like Mike Myers could try to flog a dead hose more than 3 times...
But I guess it was the only way the mag could get Purve and Wad into it without the usual fruitless discussion of whether P&W bond films are good, bad or ugly... |)
so as a first edition, I thought it worthy of another go....
and for £5 including postage!, full colour and with real staples how can we not give it another go?... :007)
man of such taste...B-)
excellent idea...
i recall the mag editors asking for ideas/criticism..
please let us all know what response you get from them when you send yours to them...
be sure to include the comments/tgts here...
