Scenes that impress without intending to.

The recent discussion of action scenes in OHMSS made me think of my favourite part of that astounding chase: when Bond escapes the pulley room by ripping out his pockets! It's one of my favourite scenes in the series because it shows him gadget-less, using sheer will to defy the villain and doing so in a very impressive manner. You know that cable would be frozen and the pockets would only serve to stop his hands from adhereing, not to protect from the cold. They don't play that part up, yet it's my focus when watching.
As I think about it, I have a few favs that are like that. The best scene in GF for me is the golf match and one of the best things about OP is the auction. Does this sound odd? I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has favourote scenes that aren't involving stunts, women or battle.
This is gonna take crackerjack timing...

There used to be a thread called "Unsung Bond Moments" but it looks like it's been deleted from the site. ?:)

Anyway, I've got zillions of these. Some of my favorites include:

-- Goldfinger's little mannerisms (wiping his nose while napping in the car, coughing while showing Mr. Ling the factory, etc.) that humanize the character.

-- Bond and Melina in the horse-drawn carriage in Cortina. Great job by Sir Roger.

-- Bond's entire routine in his hotel room in DN -- powder on the case, hair on the closet, then later switching booze bottles. Feels like how a real spy would behave.

I have a few as well but the one i can think of now is when in TWINE Elektra tells Bond "my family relied on MI6 twice and i wont make that same mistake again" and the look Bond gives her i thought was well played by Brosnan.

I find the scene in OHMSS you mentioned to be terribly tedious. It is one of my least favorite moments in the film.

I love the golf scene in Goldfinger too. It is fun and Connery is sooooo cooool. I find everything in the first half of GF to be great; I just didn't like the second half.

I love Octopussy. It has many great moments that never intended to impress. In addition to the auction scene, there is Bond and Kamal Khan playing backgammon, the twins killing 009, and the dinner scene with Khan eating the sheep eyeball.

My favorite scene that did not intend to impress is the one in LALD when Bond and Solitaire are in bed and he has just deflowered her. She feels horrible about having lost her powers and knows Kananga will kill her for being useless. It is a nice and quiet moment with good acting from Moore and Seymour.

I always felt that Octopussy impressed me alot more than I originally thought that it would. The auction scene and dinner scene are very well played by Moore and look great on film.

Agree with all these; Goldfinger is one of the best villains because he was played as a real guy and not so much of a moustache-twirler.

I can understand that, but for me scenes where Bond is in real danger with no back-up are very exciting. The hunt in OP was a hugely missed opportunity (Hiss off! :(), whereas the rock-climbing scene in FYEO was good!
the dinner scene with Khan eating the sheep eyeball.
It was so good that Lucas/Spielberg ripped it off the next year! :p

I liked in TND, the scene in the hotel room. Bond knows someone is coming for him, but he's not sure who. So he sit's there with a drink in one hand and gun in the other. Like a killer in the shadows just sitting quietly and waiting.

One scene that has always truly impressed me, yet is rarely mentioned by others, is my favourite scene in GF which is the conversation Bond has with Goldfinger about Goldfinger's plan. I absolutely adore this scene as IMO it is a masterclass in both acting and writing. The scene is the usual scene where Bond figures out what is the villain's scheme. What makes it so amazing however is not simply the plan itself, but the acting involved. Bond is incredibly impressed with the plan and Goldfinger is absolutely loving Bond's admiration, yet much of this is expressed in facial expressions rather than words. A magnificent scene and IMO the best scene in the best Bond film. :D

    Exactly. :D

Another scene I love is in DN when we see Honey in that dress. :x

Although I get the feeling that the coughing is there is hide Goldfinger's mouth- to make dubbing him easier later! You can see that his mouth is nowhere near to saying what we hear! :D

Bond "Do you expect me to talk, Goldfinger?"
Goldfinger "No, Mister Bond, I expect you to die."

Quite possibly the finest moment in Brozzer's tenure, IMO.

I like the scenes in AVTAK with Bond and Tibbett, when Bond is ordering Tibbett about. I think there is a great chemistry between them.

    Always makes me smile
