New Title...

Rocky Balboa, Rambo, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, The Incredible Hulk......007?

What do you make of this claim:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830515/board/nest/91855840

Is it possible that this is the next title? If so, I actually don't think its half bad. After the reboot, and Bond becoming a 00, etc. it kinda makes sense.

Interesting. I'm not sure what to make of it. I'd be OK with it, but then again the title for me isn't a big deal. I'm sure some people will view the idea with alarm.

I'd put serious money against that being the title.

That would be kinda weird. Don't know that I'd be against it, depending on the story.

    Here ya go:
Craig says the title is more of a number and the interviewer asks him if the title of Bond 22 will be "007."

Personally, I don't buy it, but I've been wrong before.

I actually like that title... a lot. And I feel like I shouldn't. I feel like it is a horrible title, but I really like it. :s

I doubt it. That would just be lame and Eon admitting their out of ideas. But hey...there is a writer's strike. Maybe Haggis never got around to typing the title page.

My suspicion is that in order to really separate Craig's Bond from the existing timeline, they're probably making efforts to not refer to this as 'Bond 22'
  • John DrakeJohn Drake On assignmentPosts: 2,564MI6 Agent
Craig joked in GQ magazine that Bond 22 was the title for Bond 22. Maybe he meant the same thing here. Even if Craig did know the title, it's going to be a secret until Eon decide to reveal it. I imagine Craig will have to keep stonewalling reporters until then.
  • bluemanblueman PDXPosts: 1,667MI6 Agent
IMHO if true it gives credence to the Blofeld rumor: hard to imagine "007" without his prime nemesis. ;)

Fan reaction on other boards is mixed, expect "007-Is-Not-Bond22-Title.com" to pop up sometime soon... :s Kind of amazing what the reboot has done to Bond fandom, though I doubt EON has any qualms, as per usual. This would be more gutsy stuff IMO, and likely very smart marketing.

Dang, EON keeps with the surprises. Assuming title/Blofeld rumors are true. {:)

Double O Seven, Licence To Kill, Zero Minus Ten... I wouldn't slash my wrists if it were the title, but I'd prefer something a little less obvious (plus, it would make more sense for the last film to have been called Double O Seven!). I just hope they come up with something as instantly Bondy as Devil May Care. I still love that title.

Calling it that may just be a ripoff of what the comic book films are doing, but so was the reboot. And it was a terrific idea. Those comic guys know how to set the trends!

But as for the title, I think it's great, actually. I know it seems bland at first, but after CR focused on introducing the character and new Bond universe, this next film will obviously focus on Bond actually becoming who he is and growing into the character of 007. It will establish the formula for the rest of the future of the franchise. Just like The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, etc., Bond is, in fact, a serial action hero like they are, so the title really fits, IMO.

I can see the advertising being simple enough: Daniel Craig...is...007.

And people just go to the theater and say: one ticket for 007, please. :p

Here's why I'm inclined to disbelieve this. First, let's not forget Dan Craig's habit of yanking chains--remember the stuff about Bond having a gay relationship and doing a full-frontal nude scene?

Second, if the title has something to do with a number, who's to say it's 007? In a different thread, I suggested the film should have some sort of tribute to the Ian Fleming centenary, so perhaps the title has "100" as part of it? As always, who really knows?

Well he did give some rather pointed context about the number refering to Bond's 00 status. I also didn't pick up on a jokey tone from reading's Craig's comment, whereas it was pretty obvious when he was joking about gags in Bond 22 in an earlier interview, and the "in trouble" comment at the end rings true to me. IMHO.

This rumor lumps in Von Sydow's "Blofeld" comment for me: both about as credible sources as one could want, short of an EON press release. Doesn't make them true, but until the proverbial press release I have no reason not to believe them. They also would both seem to be in keeping with what EON did with the reboot IMHO, so also lends them credence IMO. But we'll see. Wouldn't there be a press release soonish?

Conversely I had every reason to doubt the eleventh-hour rumors of Craig's casting pre-CR, as I never in a million years would've believed EON would cast him in the role. New Bond, new EON means I have no clue what's coming...I kind of like that. ;)

    I think Craigger's having us on...again...

Of course, anything's possible---which means that 007 MIGHT be the title of Bond 22---but I'll be surprised if it is. Like 'Shooter, I'm of two minds: On one level, it seems very cool...but on the other hand, it strikes me as rather pedestrian; a sign of surrender by Eon, even. It's a recognizable brand name, sure, but I'd have to lump it in with Licence To Kill as one of the least inspired titles of the franchise if it comes to fruition.

This issue brings me full circle to the whole issue of Bond titles. As I've said previously, it must be quite daunting to be clever without being trite. But then what do I know? I actually kind of liked Die Another Day as a title ;%

007 as the title, you must be joking? and we all know Craig isn't playing Q in the next film so he can't claim he never jokes about his work. i reckon this would be one of the daftest moves EON could ever make with the Bond franchise.

I would still go see it, but it's just so terribly unoriginal and I sure hope that there are more original people hanging out around the place to come up with a better title than that. Maybe the title will include numbers but not just be numbers alone. 007 and then something maybe? maybe they are trying to play against the Bourne series and this next one will be the 007 Supremacy :))

another possibility is that the title can weave the 007 number in like Casino Royale could, maybe?

I think we are just getting a little stir crazy waiting on the announcement from EON. if they don't announce it soon they could really cause us all brain freezes! :s

Eon hasn't used the Ian Fleming title A Quantum of Solace, yet.Perhaps that's Bond 22's real name.It wouldn't be too difficult to come with a theme song for that one...:)

Eon may choose to go with a Fleming chapter title. For example, there's The Nature of Evil or Moment of Truth (CR) or The Moguls of Death(FRWL).Then there's The Elegant Venus,Killing Ground and The Long Scream(all from Dr.No).There may actually be a few lines or chapter titles from the books that'd be appropriate to this film.

Let's not forget literary 007's favorite phrase,"So that's the score!" Might make a memorable title...

There really are a lot of 'Fleming' options, which is why I hope they don't just throw up their hands and call it 007...

...it must be quite daunting to be clever without being trite...

That's exactly my point. Many of the titles that people suggest, whether they're from novels or not, sound cool, but that's about as far is it goes. The title should be more than a clever play on words; it has to relate directly to the story, and be simple, yet effective. Usually with a twinge of mysteriousness and curiosity. Things like Quantum of Solace, Blood and Thunder, and The Death Collector are neat, but what purpose would it serve just to use those titles simply because they're catchy? If this movie is an exploration of the new 'rebooted' character of James Bond, why not call it 007?
  • LoeffelholzLoeffelholz The United States, With LovePosts: 8,998Quartermasters
My biggest problem with 007 is that it has no mysteriousness or curiosity...then again, they could do worse, as far as titles go. Like I said, I'm conflicted about this.

Many of the titles suggested above could indeed be made to work, story-wise; that's not a big hurdle. The villain might be known in international circles as 'The Death Collector,' for instance...and I could write a line of dialogue for 'Quantum of Solace' that would make perfect sense, within the bounds of the basic story we're expecting---i.e., avenging Vesper---even though it's definitely arguable whether QOS is 'catchy'...

Naming a Bond film isn't easy, I'll concede that...oh well, if they do use 007, at least they'll get it out of the way :#

Loeff, could you imagine a Bond film where 007 is an apt title? Because the focus of the story is about, well, 007? Tie that in with Forster's comment: "The best place for a Bond film to go is inward"...and Haggis repeatedly wanting to leave his mark on Bond, words to that effect from him for the last two years...plus the obvious marketing savvy of it in this superhero-movie age. EON, as always, seeks to make $$$; naming a Bond film "007" is a slam dunk as far as the general public is concerned IMHO.

This rumor makes a lot of sense IMO. But I didn't see the interview, so maybe it was a Craig jokey bit? Is it on You Tube yet?

Yeah; I see what you're saying, and I realize Forster wants to go 'inward' in his examination of Bond...and the fact of the matter is that Bond was only referred to as '007' once during the entirety of CR...and it may indeed be a slam dunk as far as the public is concerned...but to me it's a bit of a cop-out, that's all.

I'd much prefer the film titles to sound like something Fleming might have come up with, which is why I prefer Die Another Day to Licence To Kill, as far as titles go. I don't think he'd have ever named one of his novels 007. And it seems doubly strange to make it the title of the second film in an arc...

I can live with it, though...if I must ?:) Regrettably, they don't ask me :v

Well, the second film in the arc is the first major story progression after the 'pilot', if you will. This is a new era of Bond, and I think 007's mysteriousness lies in the fact that it says both everything and nothing about the movie at once.
